Campaign ideas! Oh my. The one half baked plan I've started to think up (and the reason the name of this particular forum) is to set the location for the campaign on a continent away from everyone's homeland full of old empires and kingdoms and all the usual high fantasy tropes. Meaning shit would be colonial and dirty. The implication being not just to have it be conquistadors vs Aztecs or pilgrims against Mohicans, but letting us rip off ideas from all sorts of imperial culture clash. There could be elements of a Dutch East Indies Corporation thing going on, weird kingdoms a la the ancient Mali Empire with a goofy Timbuktu capitol, steppe peoples pushing into the barely settled coastal colonies, viking-ish tribes of shrooming cannibal halfling berserkers coming down the rivers, etc. Basically strangers in a strange land so an eladrin, drow, and goblin would stick together because everyone else is just fucking weirder. The actual adventure impetus could be simple as getting ship wrecked in the New World/Untamed Wilds/whatever and trying to find a friendly port to get back home, breaking out from a prison colony in the fantasy equivalent of Australia, part of a jungle expedition going up river to kill Colonel Kurtz that gets broken up, or three idiots each who lucked into some piece of a treasure map and are forced to work together to see the whole picture. The ten minutes I spent writing this are by far the most I've thought about this idea so far though, so I'm hardly married to any of the above ideas so if someone wants to toss out some other wild thoughts by all means. |

Nick, I think It would be easier to make a plausible and more cohesive campaign if you were an elf or human or other "non-monster" race. I'm having a hard time thinking of how a goblin fits in when we usually kill goblins for breakfast... And if you were an elf, we would complete the trifecta, it would be kinda cool. 1 of each elf type could make for dozens of fun campaign ideas and numerous subplots. That being said, If you still want to roll with the goblin, I'm sure it wont be too hard to make that work. |

If it wasn't a goblin it would be a dwarf. 'Completing an elven trifecta' is about the most unappealing thing I can imagine in character creation, sorry. |

Well, a dwarf would be awesome too. But come up with good back story for felix and I'm sure we will come to love him also. I like the idea of being placed in a new world and helping to establish/push back the frontier in a wild untamed land (like the early american colonies). Being fantasy "conquistadors" in search of gold and riches in a newly discovered continent would also be awesome as well. |

Felix is really not hard to incorporate. Whatever we're doing, two city slicker elves higher a wilderness guide and lackey who turns out to be far more capable than they realized. |

Maybe its a pretty Goblin. Would fit right in then. Maybe a pretty goblin who loves all things elven? |

The other advantage of a goblin when I'm GMing is that he's much more likely to be off picking his nose while the elves talk business with NPCs or do the plotting. |

Cool man, as long as you think it'll work, then I think can be fun. I think I was a bit apprehensive because in the book it says that goblins consider Eladrin flesh to be a delicacy... Though I'm sure its tasty sweet. |

Drow don't like surface elves much either, and I'm not the player with a history of taking elven body parts as trophies. |

Well like I said, the whole idea behind my character (and I might change the name, maybe Crystal would be better, much prettier) is that I'm a disillusioned Drow who no longer wants to live with her fellows worshipping a spider a goddess who only wants to use the Drow as pawns in her schemes. My pally has devoted her life to fighting Lolth and her servants and so wants to make her life up top. Maybe because of this she'll try to ingratiate herself with the surface dwellers. If anything I see the other elves and such having a problem with her. |

That's exactly what a duplicitous arm collecting maniac would say! |

I like the idea of the 3 of is being hired (likely as part of a larger group) as part of a glorious (or not so glorious) expedition in search of a fabled lost city of riches (like El Dorado); this could be the reason for us all getting thrown into it together as we all leave the old world (each for our own reasons). Tons of ideas could spring from this: Our expedition could meet a horrible fate early on and the 3 of us could be among the few survivors in a strange land. Or we could be charged with helping to establish/guard the new port city/colony while the rest of the expedition moves on. Or we could be charged doing small side quests/scouting as the larger group presses on. I do think its important that there be at least one city that is already established ( even if its still very raw and in constant threats from the natives) in this strange new world so that we have the opportunity to rest and buy new equipment. |

There's be multiple cities and nascent fiefdoms, we just might start stranded in a more wild and wooly party of the world and have to make our way back to some semblance of civilization. |

I'm going to figure out how to get a map working this weekend and probably just start with do a brief, out of character, test combat to see how this works and let us all figure out the particulars of rolling dice/posting turns and during next week we can start our idiocy in full. |

Have a sweet map program set up except for the part where it doesn't want to reload anything I save in it. I'll try and get it working again tonight and if not just rig something up my hand in photoshop to start with. |
