Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet. Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar. Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?" |

"I don't know what you're talking about, they were tears of joy because of how delicious the cake was," Ned said with a laugh. |

"She was crying because she was scared about what would happen when we got caught," Jia Li replied with a smile. Both her sister and her cousin Yuri had been straight-laced in their youth and she'd been a bit surprised that either one had gone along with it. Then again, Yuri's obedience had always been about the punishment rather than actual respect for the rules. |

At Jia Li's comment Gavrila was completely silent, without any comment that she felt she needed to interject into the conversation. She'd actually stopped eating the snacks for a moment, holding a teacake halfway to mouth, before she realized that would probably make it look like something was wrong. There wasn't anything wrong per se, but what the Empress had said had reminded her of something she'd done as a young child. She wasn't sure what rule she was breaking, but she'd dragged Carol into it for whatever reason. Carol had been very straight-laced and did whatever their parents told him to, and he'd cried because he was worried about their parents reactions if they were caught. And he'd cried when they'd gotten caught despite their parents not punishing or putting any blame on him, instead putting all responsibility on Gavrila. Her mother had yelled at her for quite a while, and she'd been punished quite severely; the young Gavrila hadn't really cared about that though, because while Gavrila's mother was yelling at her it meant that the woman was at least paying attention to her. Gavrila hurriedly continued eating and did her best to put her typical expression on her face, hoping that nobody had noticed the downcast eyes and somber expression she'd had for a moment. After all, this was supposed to be a happy visit and Gavrila was no longer the little girl willing to do anything for the attention of a parent who didn't seem to care. "I seem to remember things turning out okay though. And she ate her fair share of that cake too, as I recall. Though that might have been compensation for the emotional stress," Ned said with a wink. "That's alright, just imagine the shenanigans Erryn and I can get up to these days." |

"Erryn; zat is your brozer, right?" Gavrila asked, completely back to normal, "So, what is he like?" |

Ned nodded. "Yeah, Erryn is my little brother. He's a bit calmer than I am. And by calmer I mean serious." He shrugged slightly. "Though that's mainly until you really get to know him and know how to read him." |

Gavrila laughed, "Sounds a bit like my cousin Andreea. Unless you get her somewhere informal she can be pretty serious."

"Oh, Andreea?" Gavrila said, "She is ze Steward; she represents our country in ozer countries whenever Gavril does not go himself. Only one of my cousins to get a job in ze government, not sure why ze hell she chose it zough. I really do not see ze appeal of a career in politics." At that Gavrila grinned and laughed at her little joke.

"Ah, so she'd probably have the pleasure of meeting with my father or Yuri, er... Executor Kershner, if she came to visit Fenwick," Ned observed. "Actually, considering that I should prod my father and see if we have had any significant communications between our nations." |
