Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet. Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar. Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?" |

Ned stroked his chin as he conjured a mental image of the great rats and the big cats. He shook his head and returned his focus to the group. "It would have been awkward at the very least to have you looming there while we ate. I'm glad you joined us." |

Aurel thought about the Prince's words for a moment before deciding on how to respond. "I suppose zat does make sense," he said slowly, "Zough I am only sitting down because doamna asked me to." And it was true, had Gavrila not asked him to sit down he would have continued to stand there, regardless of what the others thought of it. Though he was almost entirely certain the Knezinja would have turned to him and told him to sit down and eat at some point anyway. |

There was a knock at the door, prompting the present handmaid to answer. After a few seconds, it was evident that it was the first few courses of the meal, which had been brought up on a cart. The cart was set with a purposely bland soup, meant to cleanse the palate for the meal itself, and what may have been a salad as there were several leafy greens and vegetables laid out on separate plates along with sauces. There were chopsticks and a serving ladle, but that appeared to be the only utensils available. There were also more hot towels. |

"Fair enough, Aurel. But in any case, it is good to have you join us." Ned used a hot towel then grabbed a bit of food for himself. "If you don't mind my asking, what profession of arms did you serve in?" Aurel, if he was familiar with Fenwicki uniforms, would note that Ned's dress uniform had the emblem of the Fenwicki Air Force Combat Rescue Officer teams. He also had a Senior Parachutist Badge with combat stars. |

"I joined up wiz ze AEC, ze guerilla resistance against ze Intermarine occupiers, when I was 16 years old," Aurel said as he grabbed one of the towels, "And I suppose you could say I was infantry, zough I was also personally in charge of interrogation. After ze war was won, I became ze Knez's personal bodyguard and servant since I had injured my leg and was unable to serve as ze Captain of his Guard." Meanwhile Gavrila had used the towel and was currently staring intently at the bowl of soup in front of her, a pair of chopsticks in her hand. And after a few more moments she finally turned to Jia Li and said, obviously frustrated, "How ze hell am I supposed to eat zis?" |

Jia Li hid a smirk and ladled some into a smaller bowl. "You drink it like a normal drink since this has very little fillings in it. The ones that have noodles or anything else you would use chopsticks to eat and then drink the broth." |

Ned nodded in admiration. "Sounds like a very impressive entry. I don't think I could imagine being in combat without my training." He took a bite of his salad, then gestured with his chopsticks. "How is it?" |

"Lovely," Gavrila said, obviously not happy. She'd tried to practice eating with chopsticks, but it hadn't gone all too well. But she ladled the soup into a smaller bowl, then brought it up to her lips and drank it. She didn't particularly like it, but she didn't dislike it either as there wasn't even enough flavour to dislike. Then Gavrila pointed to the vegetables, "So, hands or chopsticks?" --- Aurel chuckled a bit, "Where I grew up many young men knew how to hunt, so it was not like I was completely untrained." He didn't bother to mention that the difference between killing an animal and killing a man didn't matter, since when he joined the AEC he thought of all Intermarines as nothing more than rabid animals. Then Aurel took the chopsticks in his hand, and attempted to take a bite of the salad. He obviously wasn't very well-versed in how to use the utensils, as he held them almost completely wrong. Not to mention they were visibly shaking as Aurel tried to keep them still. He did actually manage to get some into his mouth, and he chewed it slowly for a while before swallowing. Then he looked to the Prince, "It is good I suppose, zough I have never been partial to salads." Edited by Cetatsenia, Jan 28 2014, 03:43 PM.

OOC: Ned, don't gesture with your chopsticks. Rude boy. :-p IC: "Chopsticks," Jia Li said. "I could have the servants fetch more utensils if that would be helpful," she offered. |

Gavrila shook her head in response. "No, I got zis," she said confidently. At that she proceeded to pick up the chopsticks completely wrong and make several attempts to pick up some salad. None of the vegetables even made it close to her mouth. She glared at the salad and then to the chopsticks, before looking over to Jia Li. "Do not get me any more utensils; I can do zis." |
