Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

ooc: Heheh. At least he's not encouraging them to just stab things with their chopsticks. ;)

IC:

"Try holding one like a pencil and then just moving the other one with your middle finger, like this." Ned held up a hand and demonstrated.

Both Aurel and Gavrila watched Ned's demonstration on how to properly use chopsticks. Aurel tried, and actually came quite close; close enough that someone unfamiliar with chopsticks would think he knew how to use them. He just shrugged and used them the utensils that way, unlike Gavrila he could actually pick up the food despite his shaking hands. And the Knezinja was still having trouble as well, Gavrila tried to mimic Ned's hand movements, but it just resulted in her dropping one of the chopsticks into her soup.

"I hate zese zings," she said, staring blankly at the chopstick now floating in her bowl of soup.

OOC: It's not nice to talk about my mother.

Jia Li smiled gently. "Here, let me help," she said. She placed hers down on the proper holder and then took Gavrila's hand, placing them at the appropriate position and then demonstrating again how to use them with her fingers. She was patient and it was evident she'd had practice teaching her children.

Gavrila grimaced, feeling a bit like a child with Jia Li showing her how to properly use the chopsticks. But she still grateful that she was showing her how, though she honestly had expected her to at least laugh first. After all, Gavrila probably would have in her position. It took some time, but Gavrila eventually managed at least some rudimentary control over the chopsticks. It was still a bit sloppy, but she was finally able to pick up some of the salad with the chopsticks.

"Haha! Finally!" Gavrila said happily as she finally put the leafy vegetable in her mouth, "But zis victory would be so much sweeter if I was actually fond of salad."

Jia Li giggled. "There will be more food in a few minutes, so don't fill up now, and some of it you should be able to eat with your hands."

"Oh, I was not planning on filling up on soup and salad," Gavrila said, grinning as she was finally able to eat some of her food, albeit still rather clumsily, "And it would take a hell of a lot of soup and salad to fill me up."

Jia Li laughed. "Good. There are better dishes. These are mostly just to soothe and cleanse the palate," she said. "Ned, why don't you tell us more about your job?"

Ned looked up from his food with his chopsticks still in his mouth from the bite he had just taken. "Hrmmm?" He quickly chewed. "Uh... well... what would you like to know? We specialize in search and rescue operations behind enemy lines and we try to keep our 'target' alive and get them out to a place that they can be extracted."

"What kind of enemies exactly?" Gavrila asked, "I cannot imagine you have zat many on account of you being neutral isolationists. Zose kinds of nations tend not to step on people's toes, you know?"

Ned shrugged. "You'd be surprised. We've helped with insurgent issues and we back any military operation that Demoness carries out. Though since our particular duties are Search & Rescue, we get requests to help from civilian groups as well."
