Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet. Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar. Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?" |

"I think it mainly depends on the situation. To be honest, there are definitely times that I'm glad that some people are wearing clothes." |

Gavrila just raised an eyebrow. "You could always just look away you know," she said, then laughed, "Or do you people just stare when you see a naked person because you are not used to seeing naked strangers?" |

"No, I'm just saying that sometimes it's like a train wreck," Ned said with a smirk. "Though sometimes there are definitely people worth staring at." |

At that Gavrila had to laugh. "Ha, yeah I suppose zat is true," she said, then smirked, "Oh, and I definitely agree zat zere are some worz staring at. Very much worz it." At that she grinned at Ned, and Aurel had to hold back a groan. The Knezinja was definitely not subtle, and at the moment he was sitting in between the two. He probably should have made sure to sit on the other side of her, but Gavrila's demand had come suddenly and he'd just sat down where he was standing. |

Jia Li giggled. "You know, staring is rude." By now, the main dishes had arrived and there was rice and more hot towels to accompany them. While there were expected dishes, such as dumplings, sushi, and sashimi, there were also simply plates of meat that had been steamed or grilled and one that had been deep-fried. The meat dishes were mostly unidentifiable to Gavrila's eyes due to sauces used, but they had been arranged on the plates in a tasteful presentation. There were also more vegetables, some of which appeared to be a large leaf similar to cabbage, and as Gavrila watched, Jia Li and Xel used these to create a wrap similar to what Horea had presented to them; these were eaten with the hands, as was anything eaten with the leaves, but food was taken from the main plates with serving chopsticks or the other side of personal chopsticks. Jia Li made certain to pray over this portion of the meal before she even washed her hands, let alone served herself; Xel made an effort to pretend he had as well, though it was obvious it was only for his wife's benefit. |

Ned washed his hands and bowed his head in respect of their tradition and then started to take food for himself. The servant's arrival distracted Ned enough that he didn't focus long enough on Gavrila's remark or Aurel's involuntary groan to perceive what had happened. "Mmmm.... fooooood," he said as he took a bite. "So good." |

Gavrila's attention immediately refocused from Ned to the food. She licked her lips as she watched the food brought out, and she couldn't wait to actually try it. She watched how Jia Li and Xel wrapped the meat and ate it, and proceeded to do as they had. After she washed her hands on the towels of course. She also watched Jia Li and Xel pray over the meal, but didn't particularly care about it. There were some people in Cetatsenia who did the same, but Gavrila had never seen the point to it. "Oh God, zis is good," Gavrila said, after eating several of the foods present. She didn't just eat a lot, she ate quite fast as well. "I got to admit, zis stuff is delicious," she said. |

"Slow down," Jia Li laughed. "You won't actually taste it!" She smiled to show that she didn't actually care. As they had in Cetatsenia, the two of them were conservative in their portions, but there was plenty to eat. |

Gavrila finished a roll, shoving almost half of it in her mouth at once, then grinned at the Empress. "I have been eating zis fast for a long time," she said, "I am damn good at tasting zings while still eating as fast as I want. It is a gift." "Be careful not to choke again, doamna," Aurel said, his tone serious but with an undercurrent of humour, and a almost imperceptible smile on his face. Gavril just rolled her eyes, "Oh, zat was just one time." |

"I think the worst thing ever to choke on is the skin from a roast chicken. I was eating some with friends and thought I had bitten the piece off, but hadn't. They all thought I was joking about choking and had to stick my fingers down my throat to pull it out." He shook his head. "Not a pleasant experience. Though it hasn't stopped me from enjoying roast poultry." |
