Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

Gavrila sat in the seat of the car, watching the strange city pass her by. Gavril had spoken of the city, but being told about it and actually seeing it in person were two completely different things and on occasion Gavrila couldn't help but voice her wonder aloud. She doubted Chihiro would know what exactly she was saying, as it was mostly in Romanian, but the tone of the Knezinja's voice was unmistakable.

Gavrila had no problem with climbing up the path on her feet, though she did look to Aurel and wondered whether he'd be able to make it. He understood her concern, however, and assured her that he would be fine. The way up to the Palace was much like the car ride to the bridge, with Gavrila looking around amazed, especially when they came to the waterfall. And when they arrived at the Palace proper, Gavrila's jaw nearly dropped. She followed Chihiro throughout the numerous rooms, expressing her wonder to Aurel, who listened intently, until the group finally came to Jia Li's library.

After Chihiro left and Jia Li greeted her, Gavrila just stared at the Empress for a moment. "Ze trip was okay," she said, uncharacteristically solemn, then a massive grin spread across her face, "And your palace is fucking amazing! I zought ze Palatul Regal was impressive, but zis completely puts it to shame." And then remembering the reason she'd come in the first place, "Oh, when is Ned coming down? And has he said anyzing about me yet?"

Jia Li smirked. "Ano nee... He may not exactly know that you're here to see him specifically," she admitted. "I thought that would be too much pressure for the both of you, so he just thinks that you're here to visit."

"I told her it was a bad idea," Xel muttered.

"In any case, he's getting ready for dinner." She indicated Chihiro. "Masaki will take you to your quarters so you can get cleaned up and relax after your trip." She smirked again.

Jia Li smiled. "He visits all the time and sometimes for no reason. We're good friends. It's not suspicious," she assured her.

"It is generally served around eight, but I didn't figure you would be prepared for that, especially after flying so far, so it will be ready in about two hours," Jia Li replied. "That should give you enough time to really unwind after the flight and you won't feel rushed."

At that Gavrila's smile grew even wider, "So, if dinner is not for two hours, does zat mean I can meet Ned before we eat?" The Knezinja wasn't even making any attempt to hide the fact that she was really looking forward to meeting the Prince.

Jia Li laughed. "Well, I suppose I can make that happen. He's probably just in his room and I bet he hasn't even changed."

Gavrila absolutely beamed at the Empress. "Sounds great, should we wait for him or just go up zere now? I mean, I would hate to accidentally barge in on him getting undressed," she said, her tone making it obvious that she most definitely would not hate that.

"I can send someone up to see if he's ready. I don't think he'd appreciate us walking in on him," Jia Li replied with a laugh. Xel looked at her as if to say, "This is your doing."

Chihiro reappeared, listened to Jia Li's request, and then left the room. She stopped one of the servant girls, passed along the message, and returned to the solar. The girl went up to Ned's apartment and knocked.
