Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

Xel shook his head. "We do have an accident once or twice a year, but for the most part it's safe. It's a cliff, after all. You should be careful at the edge." What he didn't add was that most "accidents" were in fact incursions that Palace Security took care of; these were generally amontsu who didn't know better or servants who had been unwisely bribed, and these incidents had only really begun in the last decade. Real accidents tended not to occur.

Gavrila shrugged. "Yeah, you do have a point zere. Plus ze paz up seemed wide enough," she said, "But still, sometimes it is better to be safe zan sorry you know. But hell, it is your palace and you all can do what you want wiz it."

"I like not having any railings. Makes it more fun and exciting to go over there to look out over the city. Especially at night." Ned nodded. "If you all don't mind though, I'd kind of like to get out of the service dress before the tour since our guests don't mind if I'm a bit more casual."

Jia Li giggled. "What if I decided that I wanted it to stay formal?" she teased him.

Ned mock scowled at her. "I could go put on my mess dress, if you'd prefer, but then I'd insist that you joined me in the extreme of the formal wear."

Jia Li smirked. "You know my formal wear definitely weighs less than your mess dress, ne? So challenge accepted. Do you have your mess dress with you?"

"Hey, what about me, huh? All I got is zis suit; I did not bring ze shoulder-cape wiz me," Gavrila interrupted, the look on her face would be one of mock offense if she wasn't grinning from ear to ear, "Instead, I zink zat Ned should strip in protest."

"Hrmph. Just because it's a slightly fancy tuxedo..." Ned grumbled to himself. "I'm honestly not sure. I think the most advanced thing I brought was my service dress. I think I'd have remembered if I brought my sabre."

Ned gave Gavrila a slightly amused look. "Protesting by stripping? I don't think I've done any streaking since the Academy."

Gavril rested her elbow on the table and leaned her chin on her fist as she gave Ned a bemused look. "Well, I would say zat now would be a perfectly acceptable time for you start back up again," she said, smiling, "Zough you do not have to take everyzing off if you do not want to. Just most of it; you want to make a point after all."
