Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

When Ned spoke, Adiwyn's head slowly turned and she rubbed her eyes. "I'm not tired!" she declared, but Jia Li nodded. "Pick me up!" she said to Ned, holding her arms out. Apparently, her head felt better.

"Yes!" Adiwyn cried. "Airplane!"

Jia Li shook her head. "I still don't understand why children get more hyper when they need to go to sleep."

Ned shrugged. "Alright, here we go!" He 'flew' Adiwyn around the room a little bit making plane noises to entertain the three year old. "Uh oh! Turbulence!" He dipped the girl quickly and then brought her back to level. "Alright. Time to go back to your mum."

Gavrila watched Jia Li cuddle her daughter and Ned play around with the young girl and smiled. The little girl was absolutely adorable, and it just continued to remind Gavrila how much she wanted a child to call her own. It was similar to how when she'd first seen Jia Li and Xel they'd reminded her of how much she wanted a husband to love.

However, she didn't want to interrupt Ned and Adiwyn, so she turned to Xel and grinned. "It looks like Ned is pretty good wiz kids, huh?" she said.

"No!" Adiwyn cried and clung to Ned. Jia Li gave him an apologetic look and then shrugged. "Just hold her," she mouthed. "She'll fall asleep soon." Even if it hadn't been Demonessian custom, she probably still would have spoiled her; she was probably the last child she'd ever have.

Jia Li turned and smiled. "Yes. A lot of our friends have had children for ages and he spends time with all of them."

Ned held on to Adiwyn for a bit and just bounced her a little as he held her. "Yeah, it's probably just because I'm an overgrown kid, so it works out."

"Yes!" Adiwyn agreed, though she was slow to answer and her tone was not as enthusiastic as previously. She struggled to keep her eyes open as she curled against Ned's chest and she brought her hand to her mouth to start sucking on it. Jia Li shook her head at Ned; evidently, this was one of the few things she minded. Adiwyn's head jerked back up and she beat her fist against Ned's chest. "Plane!"
