Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

Xel shook his head. "I don't really think blind dates work out," he replied. Even though he had jokingly supported it, he didn't think his wife would actually follow through with the offer.

Gavrila just shrugged. "If it works zen zat is great, and if it does not zat is fine," she said, "Eizer way, it will help me get back into ze dating game. I have not been on a date since my divorce, and zat was years ago."

Then the Knezinja laughed, "Zough not telling Ned anyzing probably did not help at all."

Jia Li shrugged. "I thought it would be less stressful if you just happened to both be at a function and hit it off," she explained. "Then there's no pressure for it to go anywhere and if it doesn't, you have a new friend."

Gavrila raised an eyebrow at the Empress's explanation. "Zen why tell me and not him?" she asked, "You could have invited me under the guise of fostering relations or some crap like zat; I am ze Voivode's cousin after all."

Then she sighed, "If you do not want me to mention zat zat was ze reason I came in ze first place to him, zen I won't. Unless he asks why I came of course, I am not going to lie to ze man."

Ned was in the middle of re-tying his tie for what seemed like the millionth time when he heard the knock at the door. "Stupid thing... never the right length... ONE SECOND," he said with a hint of frustration. The next attempt put the tie at just the proper length and he walked over and opened the door.

"Afternoon," he stated as he opened the door.

Jia Li smiled. "I didn't tell you because I thought you would suspect it anyway," she explained. "And you can approach it any way you like because there's no pressure on you either."

---

The girl bowed. "Her Divinity requests your presence if you are amiable," she said. "She says that there is no rush, but the Knezinja de Sud has arrived and would like to meet you."

"Ah," Ned said as he looked back into his room. "Let me get some shoes on and finish with my service coat and I'll be down."

---

A few minutes later Ned knocked at the Solar door and then entered. "Good afternoon."

He noted the presence of an unknown woman and he extended a hand. "Major Davion. You must be the Knezinja de Sud."

Gavrila was about to respond to Jia Li when Ned entered into the room. She turned towards him as she heard the door open. When he extended his hand, she shook it without hesitation. "Why yes I am," she said with a grin, "Zough you can just call me Gavrila, pretty much everyone does."

Ned nodded politely in acknowledgment. "I'll do that, ma'am. I understand that you will be joining us for dinner?"
