Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet. Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar. Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?" |

"I'm beginning to think that you have an unfair advantage here," Ned said. |

Gavrila just smiled as she shrugged. "Hey, do not blame me," she said, "It was not my idea to leave you in ze dark." |

Jia Li laughed. "My only intent was to make sure that there was no pressure here. Ned, I didn't want you to feel like you had to do anything. Gavrila only knew because it otherwise would have been suspicious to invite her here." She stuck her tongue out. |

Ned chuckled quietly. "Fair enough. So, shall we take Adiko back to her room and then head out on the tour?" |

Jia Li nodded and then nodded down the hallway. There was no certain logic to room assignments; larger rooms were reserved for more important people, but generally the rooms were assigned when they became available. Adiwyn's room had previously belonged to her namesake, who had moved to a different room following her resignation. The lock was still present, however, and so was the elder Adiwyn. She smiled and rose as they entered, bowing politely before holding her arms out for Adiwyn. "Good evening, Davion, milady," she greeted. Her touch was gentle, almost nonexistent, as she reclaimed the child; the transition didn't seem to disturb her. |

Ned nodded to Adiwyn as she took the little girl from his arms. "Thank you," he whispered. He looked to Jia Li and nodded after her child questioningly. "Do you want to go tuck her in or anything?" |

Jia Li nodded. "I'll be right back," she said and followed both Adiwyns into the other room. There was the sound of soft conversation, but no words could be isolated. Jia Li exited alone and looked slightly uncertain, but she smiled upon reentering their company. "So, did you want to go out to the Courtyard or into the garden?" |

Gavrila followed the group silently, alternating between looking around at the palace and sneaking glances at the sleeping child. Sleeping children were just so cute, and she couldn't help it. However, they reached the girl's room and she was taken back to her bed. Gavrila waited patiently while Jia Li went to tuck her daughter in, and when she returned and asked her question Gavrila's response was immediate. "Whichever one has ze best view," she said with a grin. |

Ned shrugged. "I'm fairly partial to the Courtyard, but it's your home. Why don't you take us to the place that you'd recommend the most for new visitors?" |

Jia Li nodded. "Courtyard," she decided. "It's the side that has a view of the city." She smiled, took Xel's arm, and led the other two through the hallways and into the courtyard. It took several minutes to travel through the palace and even at this late hour the hallways were full of people; the numbers were reduced, but it was apparent that the night shift was active rather than just a courtesy. The moon was high in the sky by the time they reached the Courtyard and it shined like a second sun. There were a handful of people about, either walking or sitting, and two individuals were sparring near the center. As they got closer, it was not only evident that they were members of the High Guardsmen, but Gavrila and certainly Ned recognized them. The man was Makoto Kanzaka, the Solar High Guard that Gavrila had seen escorting Jia Li earlier. He had changed from his uniform into more comfortable attire, specifically loose pants and a cotton shirt. The woman with him was a bit younger, possibly Gavrila's age. She had long chestnut hair and blue eyes and she bore a strong resemblance to Ariana Nedia. Gavrila had seen her in passing at the Palace doors. The two combatants were concentrating on their hand-to-hand, standing on a soft mat specifically brought out for this purpose, and she was dressed in similar attire. The woman threw Makoto and pinned him, but rather than fight her, he tapped out when he noticed the four of them approaching. "Hey, Ned," Makoto said. He squinted and added, "Milady," as he stood up and dusted himself off. The woman offered a similar greeting, smiling softly at Ned. Jia Li grinned widely, but she glanced at Ned, judging his reaction, before she introduced them. "Knezinja de Sud, this is Kanzaka Makoto, whom I don't believe you've officially met, but he's been with me throughout the trip. This is Nedia Alexis, Xel's sister." |
