Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet. Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar. Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?" |

Alexis smiled and nodded. Then Makoto laughed. "I did not, but he said he appreciated the view," he answered. "And we had a small conversation about it." Xel shook his head. "She is our guest," he chastised. As amused as she was normally, Jia Li was slightly embarrassed. "Not the time, Makoto," she said. She pointed to the edge. "Let's go check out the view." |

At Makoto's answer Gavrila grinned at first. And then she burst out into laughter. Then she looked over at Xel and Jia Li, "Oh do not worry about it, it is not zat bad. Besides, I zink it is flattering." "But anyway, I agree," she said, clasping her hands together, "I want to go see ze view. Of ze city zat is." |

Ned waved at the two guards before wandering toward the edge of the Courtyard. "Resume kicking his butt, Alexis," Ned called back. Ned walked close to the edge of the plateau and looked out over the city, taking in the glow of the evening's lights. "You know, there are times that I am sad because the light pollution of a big city makes it so you can't see the stars. Then there are the times where you get to enjoy the sea of man-made stars below you, like here." |

"I can't believe you told her that," Alexis whispered as they walked away. However, she was smirking and dragged him back to the mat, where they resumed sparring. Their sounds provided an interesting complement to the sounds of the city, which was different from normal cities. There were few cars, but several trains, and the sounds of walking were muted. The city was indeed rather large and colorful. In particular, there was a large willow tree on the other side of the city. Its size took up a whole city block and the canopy was almost a forest unto itself, but strangely it was well-lit, like it had its own light. There were many tall buildings and they gave off their own glow, but this too was muted by the plants that grew on their surfaces. The city had a distinct grid shape, though it was evident that some roads deviated from the city planning and these were probably the oldest sections. Each street was wide and a section downtown made it evident that it was just as active now as it was during the day; this was the entertainment district, which boasted several plays. Jia Li rested her head on Xel's shoulder and he wrapped his arm around her. Neither of them responded, instead choosing to enjoy the silence. |

Gavrila stared down at the city, her face almost like that of a small child. She much preferred the view from the Bloody Vale Keep perched above Dreaptoras, because it was amazing to see the city sitting there like a sea of lights contained within the valley. But this was beautiful as well, and in its own way. The cities of Cetatsenia had been allowed to grow naturally over time and were much smaller, so the organized grid shape was almost never seen in her country. And the massive willow was another thing she looked at in wonder, and she briefly wondered what a forest of trees like that would look like. She walked up beside Ned, not wanting to disturb the peaceful silence between Jia Li and Xel. "I have to agree," she said, looking at him and smiling, "Nature is beautiful, but it is stupid to ignore ze beauty of what man has made too." |

Ned nodded in agreement. "I kind of wish that there was a view like this in New Aedmon. You'd have to go up into the mountains to look down on the city like this." Ned looked up at the sky and picked out a few constellations. "That was the one thing I loved about the survival trainings we did out in the desert. The view of the night sky was incredible." |

Gavrila followed Ned's gaze upwards, looking at what stars she could see. "Ze night sky in most of Cetatsenia is pretty beautiful too," she said, "Zere are only a handful of big major settlements, so you do not have as much of zis light in ze way." She punctuated her last sentence with a gesture towards the city below. |

"We could arrange for a trip out into the country tomorrow night," Jia Li offered. "You'll find that there's nearly no light pollution outside of city limits since our settlements are so clustered together. It leaves vast areas completely clear. Right, Ned?" |

"That is true. The forests near the city are quite incredible," Ned stated with a nod. "You know, I may take you to Reynes instead of Deseret. It's one of the ward capitols, but it's also the smallest ones. It'd be easier to get into the countryside there to see the sights of nature in Fenwick and then treat you to the 'wild' night life of Deseret."

Gavrila just grinned and laughed. "Oh, now I have to admit zat zat sounds like fun," she said with a smile, "And just how 'wild' is ze night life?" |
