Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

"Oh yeah, I remember zat conversation now," Gavrila said distastefully at the thought of a mother leaving her child to be raised by their father, but she was also curious about something, "But what exactly is wrong wiz ze way she dresses?"

"Oh, I wouldn't say that there's anything wrong with it. It's just rather adventurous? I'd lean toward punk rock, but I'm not sure that is entirely accurate either," Ned said.

"She dresses more like a teenager than her age," Xel replied dryly.

"She dresses how she likes," Jia Li countered, "when she is not at work."

"Perhaps, but in the larger picture of her behavior, it just betrays her immaturity," Xel replied.

Ned shrugged. "Does she do her job well?"

"According to Councilor Priestess Hayashibara, the answer is yes," Xel replied, but his tone indicated he was skeptical. Apolline Hayashibara fancied herself a spy mistress, a complement to NDAISE, and sent Ryuu on missions to ferret out Apostate threats. He wasn't certain on her success rate, but he knew they'd worked with law enforcement rather than NDAISE for reasons he didn't know.

"Well, then does it really matter how she dresses in her down time at clubs? She's just... young at heart. I'm sure you can appreciate that."

Gavrila nodded her head in agreement, "Yeah, why does what she wears bozer you so much?" The woman didn't seem like she was someone Gavrila would like to meet, but that was because of what she'd heard about her actions. As far as the Knezinja was concerned, what she wore was completely irrelevant.

"It's part of what bothers me," Xel replied. "If she were more professional about her appearance, she might improve other aspects of her life. Her outfits are more appropriate for someone half her age. She's not a rebellious teenager."

"Ma- Ma-" Jia Li closed her eyes as she struggled to remember Ryuu's boyfriend's name. "Mark! Mark doesn't seem to mind. They used to go out, ne? He just didn't like dressing like her." Xel shrugged. Jia Li and he disagreed on their view of her. He had known her for a much longer time, being that he was her actual cousin, and he had seen her change. Jia Li only saw glimpses, so it was more difficult to see why he was disappointed. Ryuu had always been rebellious, but she also stood for things; she had stood up to her parents for her sister. Now, however, he wasn't sure what was going through her mind and he greatly disagreed with how she treated Mark, who adored her for whatever reason.
