Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

Jia Li smiled. "I did actually ask her if she was a workaholic before inviting her here."

"Well, if she were a true workaholic, she wouldn't have taken the vacation," Ned replied. "So Aurel, is there anything that you want to see while you're here?"

"Exactly," Gavrila said with a grin.

Aurel thought for a moment before replying to Ned's question. "No, not really," Aurel said, "Just seeing zis beautiful country is enough for me."

Ned nodded then pointed at the large tree off in the distance. "You should visit the shrine then while you're here. It has some very interesting history as well."

"If doamna wishes to, zen I will," Aurel said simply.

"If you want to go see ze tree, zen we can see ze tree," Gavrila said, putting her hands on her hips, "Do you want to see ze tree?"

Aurel waiting for a few moments before answering, "Yes."

"Zen we are going to see ze tree," Gavrila replied, smiling, "Anyway, what kind of history does it have?"

"Well, it supposedly marks the site where there is a seal to hold the power of an old goddess back and keep her asleep. In a darker chapter, a young Empress-to-be was sacrificed there and it's believed that the tree still harbors her spirit." Ned shrugged slightly. "Either way, there is definitely an air about the place."

"Ohhh, it is zat," Gavrila said, a bit uncomfortable. She had nothing against the Demonessian beliefs, but it did sound like something out of a fantasy novel. And she also remembered how she'd inadvertently pissed them off by laughing. She hadn't been laughing at their belief, but because one of the first things that entered her mind was what her cousin Octavian's facial expression might be if he heard that. Octavian was a priest, and while he was accepting of other beliefs, he sometimes had some trouble believing that people actually believed things like that. The misunderstanding had genuinely angered Jia Li and Xel, and Gavrila had been genuinely sorry over that.

"Anyway, I cannot wait," Gavrila said, "Ze tree is absolutely huge. I cannot imagine seeing it up close."

OOC: That was at the other side of the Plateau. We're on the plain side now. :-p

"Ned-mitsu, I'll see if I can arrange a tour if you don't feel up to it yourself," Jia Li replied. "Nedia-shiro suspects I'm allergic to the tree or something. I... It was not a very good experience the last time I was in the inner sanctum."

"I have a feeling that a tour guide would be better. I have a feeling that I'd probably muck up part of the history," Ned replied. "How does tomorrow afternoon sound, Gavrila?"

"It sounds like a date," Gavrila replied, a giant grin on her face, "I cannot wait."
