Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

"I don't foresee anything going wrong with having a great rat and a big cat as pets," he said with a laugh. "I'm certain that at the very least it would liven things up."

He ran his hand through his hair and rubbed his head a little. "Hmmm... what about music?"

"Oh, I do not zink it would be zat bad. Unless Jia Li was lying about how well-behaved Chitaels were," Gavrila replied with a grin, "As for music, zere is a ton of music I like. But I zink I would have to say zat rock and metal are my favourite. You?"

Ned shrugged. "I don't know. I've never seen them around something that they might consider prey. Though they'd probably be confused by the rat's size." He thought for a moment. "Metal is more my brother's area, though I am a fan of classic rock."

Gavrila nodded and smiled, "I prefer ze heavier stuff to be honest, so maybe I should meet your brozer sometime. Could be fun to talk about music."

Ned nodded. "He might actually be in town. He tends to work out of Zauha Air Force Base here in Sacred Rock. I could give him a call later on and find out if you want."

Gavrila thought for a moment before shaking her head. "Nah, I am good," she said, "I visited Demoness for you, not for your brozer. I can always meet ze guy later."

Ned shrugged. "No worries. And I'm sure that you didn't come all the way down here just to meet me. There's plenty more exciting things here than me."

Gavrila chuckled a bit at Ned's response, and then actually laughed out loud. "Actually, I kind of did come all ze way down here just to meet you," she said, grinning, "And I am certain you can be just as exciting as anyzing around here."

Ned shrugged. "I'll have to let others be the deciding factor there." He stood up. "I should get going, don't want to keep us up all night and then have to get up early for breakfast and the tour of the shrine. See you in the morning?"

"I would not really mind staying up all night," Gavrila said, and she meant it. It wasn't just because she liked to talk, but also because she liked Ned, "But if you want to go, zen you can go. I will see you in ze morning."

Then Gavrila involuntarily yawned, then chuckled to herself. "Well, I guess I am more tired zan I zought," she said with a smile, "Noapte buna."
