Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

Before Ned could answer, there was a soft knock at the door.

Ned pointed at the door. "Want me to get that since I'm on my way out?"

Gavrila yawned a little again, and just shrugged. "Sure, why the hell not?" she said, "Mulțumiri"

Ned nodded and went to the door, though he was wondering who'd be knocking at this time of the evening.

A servant girl, probably just leaving her teens, bowed. "Excuse me, but His Holiness wished to remind Lady Knezinja that breakfast will be early in the morning, so she should get some sleep and be fully rested." When she looked up, she looked surprised to see Ned standing there, but it also allowed Ned to recognize her. He didn't know her name, but she had been a toddler when he had lived in the palace and he'd seen her occasionally in the kitchen. She wasn't dressed like one of the handmaids and it was likely she was the child of one of the other servants. She bowed again, deeper, and added, "Good evening, Your Grace."

However, the chitael behind her decided that it wanted to enter the room and slipped past both the girl and Ned. "No! Hestia, come back here!" Instead of listening to her, Hestia sniffed the ground and then sprinted into the bedroom. A few seconds later, she sprinted back out. "Hestia!" The servant girl turned to Ned and Gavrila. "I apologize. One of her old companions used to live here."

Despite the conversation, Hestia continued to explore the room, pausing occasionally between trots to sniff at the floor.

"Oh, zat is fine," Gavrila said, yawning again, "And tell 'his holiness' zat he does not need to worry about me." She watched the big cat exploring her room for a moment, comparing it to one of her great rats exploring a new place, before deciding to roll off of the chair and stand up.

She watched the cat for a moment longer before looking to the servant girl, "Can I pet her?"

"Of course, Your Grace," replied the servant girl. However, when Gavrila approached her, she thought she might be playing with her and sprinted away a short distance. At that distance, she turned and chirped. Generally, that meant a chitael wished to chase something.

Gavrila chuckled a bit as the chitael sprinted away and chirped. "Well zat was a weird noise coming from a cat," she laughed, moving towards the cat once again to try and pet her.

"They make all sorts of noises, milady," said the servant girl. "They chirp, bark, growl, purr, and churr." The latter one was difficult to imitate, but the chirping certainly sounded like some sort of bird. In the meantime, Hestia waited for Gavrila to get within arm's length before she trotted off a few more steps, turned around, and chirped again.

Gavrila looked at the servant girl, one eyebrow raised, "Okay, now zat is weird. I am no cat expert, but most cats just meow as far as I know."

When Hestia trotted off and chirped yet again, Gavrila smiled. "Ha, it looks like she wants to play," she said to nobody in particular, and moved towards the chitael again. This time her intent wasn't to necessarily pet the large cat, but to play along with her.
