Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

Hestia looked around for something to play with and then zoomed past Gavrila toward the couch where she grabbed on of the pillows. The servant girl grimaced. "Hestia," she chided, but the chitael ignored her and it appeared she tried her best not to puncture it with her teeth. Hestia laid the pillow at Gavrila's feet and then chirped expectantly.

Gavrila chuckled at the cat and bent over to pick up the pillow. She held it for a moment, while the chitael chirped before looking over to the servant girl again, "So, does she want to play fetch or somezing?"

The servant girl nodded. "Yes, but it's really too small in here for that," she replied. "Hestia, it's very late and these nice people would like to go to sleep. It's time to go." Hestia chirped again, but the girl remained firm. Instead, Hestia disappeared into the bedroom. "That's not what I meant!"

Ned chuckled at the chitael's antics. "Hestia, come back here, I'll play with you." He looked over to the servant. "We'll see if I can lure her out of the room and maybe get a different game going."

"I'm very sorry. She's usually not like this," the servant girl replied, embarrassed. "Hestia!" she called, but the cat did not return.

Gavrila just laughed, "I do not worry about it, I do not care." Then she looked down at the pillow in her hands, still left unthrown. Then she raised it up and grinned, "If she wants to play fetch, maybe I can just zrow zis out into ze hall."

"That might work," the servant girl agreed. "They like playing fetch, but they like chasing and hunting more. They're usually not this active at night, but I found her locked in one of the rooms upstairs. The door must have closed and latched behind her."

"Eh, I am used to staying up because of animals," Gavrila said with a shrug, "I live wiz 6 giant rats."

And with that Gavrila moved towards the bedroom where Hestia had gone. She held the pillow out, shaking it as she did her best to get the animal's attention. "Kitty want a pillow?" she said, a grin on her face.

The chitael apparently had settled onto the bed, but she raised her head when Gavrila entered.

Gavrila shook her head and chuckled at the cat who'd made itself comfortable on her bed. She shook the pillow again, making sure that the chitael was paying attention. Then she tossed the pillow out towards the door, the pillow hitting the frame on the way out and not going very far.
