Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

The chitael rose onto her haunches and chirped, but she didn't move. Apparently, this was the large cat equivalent of meowing.

Gavrila sighed and crossed her arms, tilting her head as she thought. "She seems friendly enough," she said, turning to talk to the servant girl, "Maybe I could just sleep wiz her. If she wants to play she may just get bored and leave anyway."

The servant girl bowed. "That's up to you, milady. She is rather sweet, if a bit demanding at times. She slept here as a kitten, so she might be confused."

"Eh, it is fine," Gavrila said, walking towards her bed, "Hell, I am used to sleeping wiz animals so it may remind me of home."

Ned stuck his head around the corner. "It's true. They can be cuddly if they want to be. Though they'll let you know real quick if they want let out of the room."

The servant girl nodded. "She'll likely get up and paw at the door or bark or something," she replied. "I could bring up a water dish for her in a few minutes. Is there anything that you would like from the kitchen?"

Gavrila shook her head and grinned as she looked at the big cat again. The largest animal she'd slept with was her rats, but the chitael seemed friendly enough. And she trusted Jia Li about them, and was pretty sure she wasn't going to end up mauled.

"Nah, I am good," Gavrila said to the servant, "And, did you say 'bark'? I zought was was what dog did."

The servant girl nodded. "You'll see if she does it. It's not the same as a dog I think." She bowed and quickly left to head down to the kitchen after checking with Ned, leaving the two of them alone with the cat. The chitael had laid back down and stretched out across the foot of the bed; clearly, she was establishing her territory for the night.

Ned nodded. "You too. Hopefully she doesn't decide to play with your feet when you get to sleep," he said with a laugh.
