Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

Adiwyn nodded. "We could do that. Which would you rather visit first?" she asked. "The zoo has set hours, but the shrine is technically open all night to supplicants. It's closed to visitors after twenty-two, but I doubt we'll be out that late. The zoo is also relatively closer, as it is in the center of the city, but you needn't worry about that. The trains make the distance negligible.

"There will also be a few discreet guards to accompany us and they won't intrude too much on the tour."

"I want to visit ze zoo first," Gavrila said, grinning before she looked over at Ned, "Zat is not a problem, is it?"

Ned shook his head. "No, that's fine. It's been a while since I've been there anyway. Should be fun."

In response Gavrila's grin widened even more, "Awesome, I cannot wait. So, how long is breakfast anyway? I want to get started as soon as possible."

Jia Li smiled. "As long as you want. I have to head off to a meeting in a couple of minutes, but you're free to eat as long as you like or you can even leave now."

Xel shook his head. "Neither of you have had a proper meal yet," he said to his wife and daughter.

"I'm fine," she replied. She paused, giving the matter some thought. "But you're right. I'll make sure there are sufficient snacks for Adiko."

Adiwyn nodded. "Your Divinity, her bag is sufficiently stocked and I have arranged for food to be delivered at her usual times."

Jia Li smiled. "Thank you, Grandmother."

"Well, I may want to leave but I am definitely going to eat my fill. So I guess I will see you all later when we get back," Gavrila said, before looking to Adiwyn, "Oh, and what are we going to be doing for lunch?"

"Given Prince Davion's dislike of ceremony, I was thinking a cafe or small restaurant nearby would be a suitable choice," Adiwyn replied. "There are several choices in the zoo itself and downtown, where we'll be spending most of the day. The shrine unfortunately is located in the south part of the city, so the meal choices will be a bit slimmer."

At Adiwyn's reply Gavrila just smiled as she stared off into the distance, her mouth watering as she thought of lunch. At least, until she remembered that there was currently breakfast in front of her and continued to eat that for the moment. "Zat sounds like a great plan," she said, then looked over at the Prince, "Eh, Ned?"

Ned shrugged slightly. "I figured that we'd be eating in the zoo, since we're headed there first. If we wanted to spend any real time there and enjoy the park, we'd be there past lunch, so... yeah."

Adiwyn nodded. "Then we shall leave when you are ready," she replied. She wiped off her hands with the towels provided and helped herself to a bowl of soup. While the sugar in the fruit was meant to be the primary source of energy for breakfast, she found the soup to be easier on her digestive system.

Jia Li glanced at the door and noted Chihiro Masaki, the Second Handmaid, standing in the doorway. She took it as a sign that it was time to leave and quickly wiped off her and her daughter's hands before leaving the table. Xel assisted, taking Adiwyn from her, as Jia Li grabbed a few last minute things, including the satchel for her daughter. After the three of them had their shoes on, Jia Li turned and grinned. "Have a good day. I'll see you at dinner." She winked at Ned, and then they left.
