Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet. Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar. Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?" |

Ryuu shrugged. "Sure," she replied. "I got a new cell, so I don't think I have your phone number saved," she continued, digging into her pocket for her phone. A few other odd bits and pieces of paper tumbled out of her pocket. During this motion, it became apparent that her nails were chipped, but they had been black, and some sort of animal had been drawn on her right shoulder in henna, which came to light when her the wind blew her hair. Her wallet, or whatever passed for it, also fell to the marble and she quickly picked it up and put it back in her pocket. "Lina said to drop by any time and I'm supposed to meet up with Makoto later on- Actually, I think he wants to talk about Lexi and I think I know what it's about, so I'd like to talk to you about-" She looked at Gavrila, and then down at her phone on which she was clearly trying to access some sort of program. "-But that can always wait. Nankeda! This thing is a piece of shit. Do you have a smart phone? I hate this thing and I really want a new one, but I have to have it." The phone in question was one of the older ones, possibly even a second generation phone, and certainly more than a decade old. Aside from being worn, it looked like it had been heavily modified or repaired since its original run in use. "Whatever. Maybe it has to do with GPS or something. Anyway, what's your number? Just let me know- Hold on." She messed with her phone a little longer, pounding it in her palm for good measure, and was apparently satisfied. "Go ahead." |

Ned shook his head and gave her his number. "I'll give you a yell when we're wrapping up and ready for your tour, cool?" |

Ryuu smiled. "Yeah. Sounds good. So I've got two things to talk to you about too," she said. "Don't worry. And now you've got my number, so you don't have an excuse. One's serious, I promise." She shoved the phone back into her pocket and straightened her jacket so that it actually went over her shoulders. "Anyway, I'll let you get going." To Gavrila, she added with a wink, "Watch this one. Nice meeting you. Later!" She practically skipped off, moving at a pace that wasn't quite a run but faster than walking, and hesitated as she passed two of the priests sparring with staves. She watched them for a second before injecting herself between them, smoothly disarming one priest and transferring ownership of his stave to her. Apparently, she misjudged the timing of the fight as she blocked a only few of the shots from her now partner before her defense failed. She smiled at them and while her words were audible, she was clearly counseling the disarmed priest about his grip. She finished her conversation, and then waved as she continued on her way. Netoru shook his head but said nothing while Adiwyn gave no reaction. "Shall we?" she asked, indicating the stairway that led to the Path. "I advise watching your step," she said. "The soil is loose and the footing is deceptively stable." She smiled. |

Gavrila grinned at the woman, responding with, "Do not worry, I will. Nice meeting you too." It had been a rather interesting exchange, to say the least, but it didn't look like it was going to interfere with her date so she didn't mind all that much. And it might even be interesting to see this woman's version of the tour; Gavrila was always up for going places she wasn't exactly supposed to be. The Knezinja actually laughed out loud as she watched Ryuu disarm the two sparring priests. She was still chuckling when she turned back to Netoru and Adiwyn, "Awesome, it sounds great to me. Let us go." |

The zoo was exactly as it sounded. Having a healthy respect for nature, the enclosures were as wide as city construction allowed and, while clean, proved to be a bit more wild than the traditional zoo. Rather than having a clear view of animals, there was one viewing spot where an animal might be visible, should it choose, and the rest of the enclosure was a reproduction of its natural habitat, albeit a bit thinner in its vegetation. Adiwyn obediently stayed near Ned's side, and though she slowed a few times, apparently having difficulty keeping up with them, she said nothing and endeavored to keep the "weakness" hidden from her guests. It was likely it was a matter of pride and at one point Netoru offered his arm to her. The guards formed a loose perimeter around them and it was unnecessary for them to clear the way; it was obvious that the Demonessian populace had been trained to vacate the areas they were near. Still, a few patrons lingered around the edges and curiously watched them, but none dared to take a picture. Fortunately, Ned fell under the same lèse-majesté and anti-harassment laws as the Imperial Family, so they had some semblance of privacy. Adiwyn, Netoru, and even the other guards would answer questions when addressed, and the Cetatsens were able to get a feel of their personalities as well as their familiarity with Ned; necessary formality or no, Ned was like a part of their family and it was evident when they allowed themselves to speak freely. Since Gavrila had mentioned interest in the vultaels, they eventually made their way to their enclosure where two were present. They were much darker than the chitaels, a black shine over a spotted coat, and heavier, like panthers. The two vultaels kept to opposite sides of the enclosure, seemingly avoiding one another. One was asleep in a tree while the other paced the cage opposite, alternating between watching its companion warily and surveying the passing patrons. Neither looked particularly happy, even if they did look quite healthy. This enclosure had thicker trees, which must have been transplanted, and mimicked the deep forest where shadows grew deep. |

Throughout the trip through the zoo, Gavrila was her same old excitable self. She didn't bother acting formal in the slightest despite being in public and around Ned, it just wasn't in her nature. And Aurel followed close behind, watching silently unless directly addressed. She did find it a bit strange how all the Demonessians seemed to avoid them; in Cetatsenia the people didn't exactly bother the royals and nobles while they were out doing anything, at least not usually, but they didn't clear out like the Demonessians did. Gavrila found it a bit strange, and to be honest she didn't really like it. But she decided early on it would be less fun to focus on that, and more fun to focus on the zoo and Ned. Especially Ned. When they came to the Vultaels she got as close as the possibly could to them, and stared for a few long moment before looking back and grinning. "Zese are cool as hell," then she glanced back at the cat that was pacing, "He does not look zat happy zough. But hell, I am more used to rats zan I am cats." |

Adiwyn leaned on the railing beside Gavrila. She looked slightly weary, but she didn't complain. "It is my understanding that they are reclusive and solitary. Maybe they don't like being paired together." She nodded toward the one in the tree, and then continued, "Though I don't imagine that's the case if they allow them to remain in the same enclosure. It would stress the animals too much. This zoo has a breeding program, so maybe xyr behavior has something to do with that." |

"I'd lean towards it being a result of their closed in area and the sparser vegetation for them to hide in. Seems more agitated about being out in the 'open' than anything. To me anyway." |

Gavrila just shrugged as she continued to look at the cat. "Eh, whatever you say," she said, "I know jack shit about cats. Never owned one before in my life. Zey are pretty kitties zough, a shame zey are endangered." |

Adiwyn nodded. "I'd offer to take you to see the breeding program, but I don't think we can make an exception even for you. They've been keeping it pretty close to the vest from what I understand and the program itself is a pilot for cloning non-humans in Demoness." She smiled. "Jia Li took an intense interest in it," she added. Ned would know that Jia Li tended to obsess about a subject for a while before moving on, leaving others to run any projects she may have started; it most cases, it had worked out to an advantage. |
