Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

"We might be able to arrange a private conversation with one of the staff," Adiwyn offered. "Perhaps they will be able to tell you. I am curious myself. It also must be quite hard to study these creatures, even in a tank up here, because of the lighting conditions."

Ned nodded. "I wonder if they're able to utilize any other forms of non-visible light and adaptive eye wear or if the fish are sensitive to them as well."

Gavrila just shrugged her shoulders, "Well, I have absolutely no idea. Not even a damn guess. But hell, now I really want to know."

Adiwyn nodded. "Then I shall see about contacting a member of staff. I'll be right back," she said and bowed before she disappeared into the crowd.

"Uh oh, looks like we've been left alone without a chaperone," Ned joked.

Gavrila laughed, and then playfully poked Ned in the chest, "Oh come on, we are boz grown adults. We do not need a chaperone."

Then she grinned and pointed to Aurel, who was standing silently behind her. "And besides, we have Aurel here. Zough he will leave any time I tell him."

Ned shrugged. "True. Aurel, what do you think of the deep sea fish?"

Aurel stopped and thought for a long moment, staring out at the tank full of strange fish as he did so. "I zink zey look strange and beautiful. In zeir own strange and alien way," he said, then he smiled, "And I am surprised doamna has not wondered what zey taste like."

"Hey, I do not always zink wiz my stomach," Gavrila said in mock protest, playfully punching Aurel's shoulder, "Fuck. Now zat you mention it I want to know."

"If their appearance is any indicator, I'd say that they taste like wrath and insanity," Ned replied. "Though the glow is nice."
