Despite being the dead of winter in the northern hemisphere, all was not gloom in Demoness. The season was called Second Summer and was indeed more like its counterpart than an opposite. The weather was warmer and slightly humid, though the latter was due to the shower was predicted to visit Sacred Rock later that evening. For the time being, the weather was overcast as Ned Davion descended into the airport. He would soon be followed by Gavrila de Sud, but he was not quite aware of that fact yet.

Visits between Fenwick and Demoness had become more than routine, with the prince representing his country more often than his father, and they had lost all their formality; a simple phone call announced his arrival and a car would meet him at the airport with little fanfare. He was admitted to the Plateau and after a little witty banter with the Guardian of the Gateway, an ex-girlfriend, he was led into Jia Li's private solar.

Though technically a solar, it was more specifically a library and Jia Li lounged with her legs across her husband's lap; a chitael, either Nemesis or Aphrodite, lay in hers. She propped up a book on her chitael's head, reading happily while her husband reviewed something on a tablet. She looked up as Ned entered and smiled. "Hey, Ned-mitsu," she greeted. "I'd stand but..." She indicated the hundred pound animal purring on her lap. "When did you get in?"

Gavrila shrugged, "My council does deal wiz day-to-day stuff, but zat does not mean zat is seems like zere is always somezing zat requires my attention. Hell, it is not as bad I am making it out to be since I do get plenty of free time; but any kind of major decision still requires my okay. One of ze downsides of ruling in a absolute monarchy I guess." Then the Knezinja grinned and laughed, making it obvious her last sentence was meant to be a joke.

Ned shook his head. "I say we all just steal a frigate and become a pirate armada. Far less responsibility." He nodded then took another drink to hide a small smirk.

"Heh, you guys can go do zat, but count me out. I am staying on dry land," Gavrila said, smiling as she ran with the joke, "And besides, I do not zink you would all appreciate me bringing my 6 great rats along."

"What kind of pirate ship would it be without rats?" Ned asked. "We could be more ambitious and make it a carrier. Those things pretend they're a small city most of the time anyway."

Ned laughed. "No cruise vacations for you then, huh?" He turned to Xel and Jia Li and gave them a look. "Hmmm... nope. Wouldn't work. I don't know about Xel in a pirate hat."

Jia Li smiled. "He doesn't need a hat. Only captains have hats," she replied. "And we both know I'm the captain." She glanced around, looking for the time. Clocks were not easily found outside of meeting rooms and she tended to rely on electronics and servants for the exact time; Chihiro provided her with this. "We could head up to my apartments and wait for dinner," she suggested. "It's where it will be served anyway, so we might as well get comfortable."

Ned shrugged before pulling himself out of his seat. "I'm game. Though now I kind of want to throw a pirate themed party, just to see you guys in pirate hats."

"All right, sounds like a plan to me," Gavrila agreed, standing up from her seat and grinning, "And I mean going up to Jia Li's apartments, not ze pirate party."

Ned shook his head. "You don't know what you could be missing out on. Oh well, I'll just have to keep planning for the next party we have... and see if I can sneak something by my father." He wiggled his eyebrows. "It's always a bit of fun to see which one of us is more... creative."
