In an unspecified Third World Country... Crafty Roukai was mostly satisfied with the way her life had gone so far. She was in her late twenties, naturally pretty, and athletic, but best of all, she worked with a mercenary group called the Hessi. She would have preferred a private military company, as they provided better pay and benefits, but her current situation and contacts only provided her with so many resources. She was still wanted by Demonessian authorities for her role in the 2011 ITC Patin attack, among other reasons, and so she could only be involved in low visibility operations. Even if she was living in what some would consider terrible conditions, it wasn't too bad. During her time with the Apostates, she had discovered she had a talent for destruction and her current line of work allowed her to explore it. The Hessi were enforcers for a local warlord and though she lived in a misogynistic environment, she had earned fear by reputation: she didn't shy away from brutal techniques to quell the local population and she had disemboweled the first man who had tried to take her by force. While she was not in a position of power, she was respected. That wasn't to say she hadn't suffered. Her athletic build had become slimmer since food in the Watari region was scarce, even for the Hessi. News traveled slowly, so she couldn't stay informed on her wanted status, and the equipment she used was nowhere near the standards she had used as Special Tactics. She had acquired a few scars along the way and malaria had nearly killed her the first month in Watari. She now lived in the Hessi compound, which was a collection of six buildings - more accurately a collection of sheds - and smaller huts that also housed Hessi families. The compound was walled with tin and barbed wire and had an armed guard in a tower. Crafty should have been boarded with another mercenary, but after disemboweling the last one she ended up housed with a young pregnant girl named Darli; Crafty didn't know her story since Darli didn't speak English, but she strongly suspected Darli wasn't here willingly. The Hessi compound was approximately ten miles from the nearest town, a goat farming village with no name, and fifteen miles from Warlord Ekard, who lived in a much better guarded compound in an isolated mountain. Tomorrow, Crafty would take the Jeep with a few other Hessi and head up to Ekard's place to replace the guards. She liked it better up there - there was clean water - and she planned to catch Ekard's eye, but she never saw him. |

Topaz fidgeted slightly before smoothing her hair and then answering. Despite looking him in the eye, she still showed nervous tics, such as drawing a circle on the chair with her finger. "My mission was to infiltrate the Apostates, so yes, I did work with them. I was deep undercover, so I don't have any credentials. I gave them to my sister for safekeeping, though it turns out that was a poor choice. You can talk to my handler, Agent Kitakura, code name Incubus. I was Changeling." She shook her head. "But Kitakura probably will say I went rogue since once it got dangerous I stopped reporting in. It's kinda hard to maintain cover if you have to meet at routine times." She sighed. |

"How long did you go off the grid?" he asked. "And did you try to reestablish contact at any point?" |

Topaz shrugged. "I don't know... Six months? Eight? I lost track and by the time my sister was on the watch list along with me, so there was no way I was going to check in. I knew this would happen if I did." She nodded toward the restraints. "But I've been nowhere near any of this since then. It took me a while to get to Isaad and set myself up, but I've been there since then." |

He nodded and took a few notes. "That meshes with the bit of information we have. We'll try to work with NDAISE for a positive outcome for you." He stood. "Hopefully everything will pan out." |

Topaz frowned, but there wasn't much else she could do or say. Assuming he had been telling the truth, the interrogator was the one person who might have helped her and he thought she was working with another terrorist... Nicholas Kravchenko had seemed so nice, but her lack of judgment was also how she'd gotten into her current situation with the Demonessian government in the first place. She couldn't do anything else except wait, so she tried to find a comfortable position and started observing the room to see if there was any chance of escape. --- Alex Morikubo looked over the case file for the thirtieth time while his partner, Nitsa Brandeis, looked out the window at the approaching carrier. They were both looking forward to taking into custody the high value target that had been apprehended by their Fenwicki allies and learning from her what they could. Nitsa was interested in the intelligence Topaz would provide and relieved that her knowledge was no longer in the world and unguarded, but Alex took it more personally: he too was a former High Guardsman and saw the sisters' actions as a betrayal to the order. When they landed and disembarked the helicopter, both looked sharp in similar suits, though Nitsa's dark hair was caught by the winds. |

Erryn and Nick Wilson, the man who had initially interrogated Topaz, met them on the deck. Erryn was back to standards and had shed his disguise from the mission to apprehend Topaz. "Hello, welcome to the RFN Dauntless. I'm Agent Wilson and I believe you know Major Davion. If you will follow us below, we'll take you to the holding area." |

Alex nodded. "I'm Agent Morikubo Alex and this is Brandeis Nitsa," he said. He bowed slightly in deference to Erryn's royal blood and his own background as a High Guard, but that seemed to be the only formality spared between the two of them. "Has she said anything?" Nitsa asked as they walked. |

Nick nodded. "I checked to see what she remembered from being captured, that sort of thing. Basic debrief with feeling out what her story was." Erryn nodded. "I supervised from an adjacent room." Edited by Fenwick, Oct 20 2014, 12:07 AM.

Alex nodded. "I saw the cover story. What was her story?"

"Apparently she was getting watched to the point where she was afraid to check in for risk of being discovered. That lead to the lapse in her communication with her handler and by the time she could check in she had found out about her sister's theft of her credentials," Nick replied. "It was then that she headed to Issad." |
