Bosh Range, Kenin Field, Yunair

Kenin Field is best known for being the location of the final battle between colonizers and local resistance forces. Usually as sleepy city, many restaurants and businesses in the area have been preparing for the expected rush of tourists for the games and Olympic memorabilia or various local and international flags dot it's various buildings.
Surrounded on all sized by the Bashan Plains the city is basically the only rural area for kilometers. This makes it a hub for both trade and culture and many theaters line it's streets.

Bosh Range usually hosts the national archery competitions but for the Olympics it has come under renovations. With expansions expanding it to seat 6000 and with the addition of a new velodrome which seats a further 4000 people, the compound has nearly doubled in size. The marathon, as it is planned, is to start on the edge of its property and weave it's way through the city's cobbled streets before ending at the city limits at the Benure Concert Hall.

In preparation for the Olympics, the city has hung lights across their bridges to make giant flags from every single participating nation.

The Newly build Yashna center hosts 2 Olympic sized swimming areas and a specially designed diving pool. Built by the private investor Yash'ri Akim, the building looks like a luxury hotel from the hotel and it has enough seating for a small city by itself.

Isaan Stadium, Gas'an, Mez'ani

Gas'an's bid to host the track and field section of the Olympics shocked local commentators as the former steel city has fallen upon hard times in recent years. Still, citizens have put on a good show with many projects to clean the city in preparation for the international audience initiated by local citizens. The Olympics has also brought in much needed investment which has begun to revitalize the local economy.

Initially the Issan Stadium suffered severe building delays and several corruption issues that saw the firing of 3 different building companies. After a bailout by the local government and the contract with Hyin and Fields, the stadium was able to just barely make the deadline.

The day started early for the Olympians, who would be the first in the modern age to compete. The excitement in the air was palpable as the spectators entered the arenas to watch this historic event. No one was certain what they could expect. In historical times, the Olympics were a celebration for the gods, but this first Olympics would set the tone for modern times. Would this allow nations to set aside their grievances and allow humanity to see beyond its borders to embrace the perfection of athletes? Or would this become another arena for countries to settle their petty differences?

After the Opening Ceremony in which the athletes entered the field with their flags, the games were officially underway! (OOC: Feel free to post an opening ceremony. I kinda forgot about that.)

It had been decided that due to the small number of archers, all eight competitors would shoot at the same time on each round. Rather than being divided into teams, each individual would compete, meaning that countries with multiple competitors had a chance to earn multiple medals.

When the arrows began to fly, it was clear that Intermaris was outclassed and quickly fell behind as the scores climbed. However, just because Intermaris was discounted early on, it didn't mean it wasn't a close race. Despite being doubts being voiced about Gran Draconis' chances, its competitor managed to psyche out the others and climb to fourth place. In the end, Benuhal and Fenwick shared the gold, both competitors tying with 677, while Benuhal also took the silver with 665, and Gran Draconis taking bronze with 662, barely beating out his competitors by a point.

This competition proved to be a little less intense, possibly due to fewer competitors or the skill level involved in the winners. From the beginning it was evident that Benuhal, Demoness, and Fenwick were the ones to watch. Despite being an initial favorite, Gran Draconis fell behind in the round, and judges are investigating a charge that an audience member was purposely distracting the Draconian competitor.

Hopefully, the matter won't overshadow the winners: Benuhal took home the gold with 671 points, scoring nearly as high as her male counterpart. Demoness managed to place second with 659 points and Fenwick took home bronze, trailing her ally by two points.

Some competitors seemed more nervous than others as they made their way into the field. Each psyched themselves up, either mentally preparing or by warming up, and assessed their competition. Even though each had run in national competitions, this would be the first time they would show an international audience their speed or even set records. It was tense.

The crowd fell into a hush as the runners went to their blocks. The races, lasting only seconds, seemed to last forever for the competitors as they pushed themselves as hard as they could. In the end, only one could win. Some finishes were determined by photo.

It should be noted that during this particular competition, Cetatsenia was taken in a stretcher off the field. It is uncertain as to hold it occurred, but the Cetatsenian ran 100 m before collapsing in pain. She injured her foot during practice the week prior and was advised to see a doctor by her trainer, but she did not and it is believed she fractured the bone then.

Here at the world's first ever Olympic games the Cetatsens would normally be happy with their athlete's placing in the ranks. While they aren't first, they are up there with the second-most medals and being tied with Benuhal for the second-most gold medals. However, the good mood is tempered by the unfortunate accident of Iolanda Gabor in the Women's 200m.

During a training session earlier this week Mrs. Gabor injured her foot, and despite being advised by her trainer to visit a doctor she refused and continued on as planned. However, she collapsed in pain after only 100m during the 200m and had to be taken off the track in a stretcher. Reports state that she most likely suffered from a fractured ankle when she injured herself last week, and continuing on with the run only exacerbated her injury. As a result of her not visiting the doctor, she has suffered from a severe bimalleolar fracture and will most likely not be able to put any weight on the foot for several months. At present her future in the sport is unknown, due to the severity of the injury.

However, in brighter news, Cetatsenia is doing rather well in the competition as mentioned earlier. Many of the Cetatsen runners were favourites in their respective compeitions, and for good reason. Iosif Sala (Men's 100m), Silviu Cojocaru (Men's 1500m), and Nicoleta Nicolescu (Women's 100m) all earned Gold medals. Lucia Dumitru won the only Cetatsenian Silver medal, in the Woman's 400m hurdle, coming close behind the Demonessian competitor.

Overall the Cetatsens are looking hopeful for the future of the Olympics, and many hope that the positive trend will continue, and without any more setbacks like the unfortunate accident with Mrs. Gabor.

The count seems good for our local athletes, easily putting us in a comfortable first on out charts here on Channel 12. The foreign crowd don't seem giving ground easily though beating our Jo'mashi Mo'shanti and Jense Bari in the Mens 200 m and Mens 110 hurdles respectively. They even denied us our second medal in female archery. We doubt Asani Morai will be too happy about that.

On the up side, we are up there 4 Golds with wins in Men's Target Archery, Women's Target Archery and Women's 200m. Hopefully these will be the first set amongst many. We also scored 2 Silvers in Men's Target Archery and Women's 110 Hurdles. These honours should not overshadow our fine athletes who made it to the medal stands on bronzes. Athletes like Rahanan Babansi in the Men's 100m, To'tan Marsani for the Men's 1500 m, Ash'an Mani in the Men's 400 m Hurdles and finally Lashi Son'no for the Women's 400 m Hurdles.

We will have our Gold medal winning athletes Marrik Tomas, Yano Kleeve and J'oni Bari on later this evening. Until then, send your prayers and best wishes to our athletes and I'll see you later tonight!

"This is Illia Holens for DBC News, bringing you all the results from the first day of the Benuhal Olympics,

((ARCHERY))
The morning started with the Archery competitions. The highly competitive Men's category was a thriller, the placings changing throughout the multiple rounds, and came to a close with a surprising draw between the entrants from host nation Benuhal, and Fenwick. Initial suggestions of a 'bonus round' were quickly dismissed and the two nations both received Gold. Benuhal was doubly fortunate, with their second entrant managing to edge out Gran Draconis' own Jeramy Valens who had to make do with Bronze.
Decturian (Sergant) Valens, is honoured not only as a member of the Olympic team, but is also an Ace Sniper in the prestigious Dragonguard arm of the Army.

Unfortunately, the Draconian people could not boast a medal at all in the less highly contended Women's category. Gold went to host nation Benuhal, which now more than ever, can genuinely boast of its strong traditions with the sport. Silver was awarded to Demoness, and Bronze went to Fenwick.

((RUNNING))
With Gran Draconis focusing on the endurance events, there was little following of the earlier 'short course' events. There was however, an incident during the Women's 200m event when the Cetatsenian collapsed in obvious pain around the 100m mark, failing to complete the event. There was a small degree of controversy early on, but the investigation quickly cleared any other competitors of mall-practice. Ultimately, it was revealed that the fall was brought about by an earlier injury incurred during practice.

However, once the 1500m events started, the Draconian people were once again focused on the games. However, they would be disappointed by a poor official showing, both the men's and women's competitors found the events easy, but also lacked the 'final push' speed to make them contenders.
The Men's event gave Gold to Cetatsenia, Silver to Eigamst, and Bronze to host nation Benuhal.
The Women's event gave Gold to Eigamst, Silver to Demoness, and Bronze to Cetatsenia. It was in this event that the Draconian competitor was only barely edged out by the Bronze medal winner, with less than a second separating their times.

After this, the national attention lapsed once more, with the hurdles, once again not being contested by the Draconian Olympic team.

Stay tuned after this report for an encore presentation of the full coverage of all the first day events, only on DBC, your only station for all your Olympic and National News. This is Illia Holens, good night!"

Day Two
The excitement had increased by dawn of the second day after the performance of the Olympians. It was clear that these were true athletes setting world records and witnesses who had had the foresight to buy tickets were eager to be in their places when the next record was set. Today promised to be the most exciting day as each of the four sites would see action.

The inclusion of boxing had been a controversial decision. Even though it was considered a sport, its brutality and the high likelihood of permanent injury had increased the chances that it would not be included. However, the sport also had a long history and, aside from archery, was one of the oldest included in the events. It would be disgraceful to eliminate boxing from the first ever Olympics.

The matches for the men and women took place simultaneously. The men were divided into matches that took place in Stadium 1 while the women were in Stadium 2. The culture and the beauty of the newly constructed stadiums contrasted with the violence of the sport underway, but it was a testament to the care Benuhal had taken in being the host.

The matches took place all day and, despite the groupings, allowed recovery time between bouts for each boxer. The matches themselves were restricted to three rounds at five minutes each to facilitate the multiple matches. A win granted a competitor three points while a draw was awarded with one. Each boxer was ranked according to the points he or she ultimately earned.

The boxers gave it their all, sometimes coming close in points and sometimes simply holding staying upright despite suffering horrendous losses. The most interesting bout was between Benuhal and Intermaris in which the two fighters traded blows evenly for what seemed like hours. Ultimately, the two remained tied and officially the match was a draw, but Intermaris was chosen by witnesses as the unofficial winner due to his style during the match. This bout was only matched in intensity by a match later in the day between Benuhal and Fenwick in which Fenwick hardly scored a point but he remained on his feet despite a solid cross to the head thirty seconds into the match - a hit that would have laid out other fighters - and a second injury that likely resulted in a concussion.

The women's matches proved to be a little more intense, perhaps because the competitors felt they had something to prove. Two matches were stopped by referees due to serious injury, one of which was to the head and likely resulted in a concussion. There were also more matches and the bouts went into the night. Despite the head injury the Benuhal opponent suffered, she still went on to win the gold with 12 points, proving that spirit is what makes the sport. Women's Boxing also became the first event to award two silver and two bronze medals.

The warmup was a little different for these competitors. They were slow and deliberate, but these runners would still determined. Two of the male competitors were favored for the win from the beginning, matching each step for step, but it was in the final lengths that Cetatsenia started to falter. For a moment, it seemed Intermaris might catch up and take second from him, but then Cetatsenia was able to push himself and seize second place for himself.

Cycling took place on a track, but this was not a normal track. Like the marathon, it made use of the city streets as a portion of the final lap and to give the winners a beautiful view on the way to the finish line. Unfortunately, fewer cyclists took part the event than expected, but they still gave it their best and one would never know how many competitors there were when looking at the end results.

It was appropriate that the "City of Bridges" would host the swimming competition. To warm up the arena, only one event would be performed today and that would be diving. It is always impressive to seen the talented men and women twist and contort their bodies mid-air and today was no exception. First and second place in the women's category was less than a point apart and while the judges did make their final call, which would be recorded in the books, it was expected that the respective newspapers of Intermaris and Fenwick would embellish the competition: Intermaris' would be a triumphant victory while Fenwick's would be a tragedy.

The majority of activity in the stadium took place the day before, but anticipation still buzzed among the fans. While the high jump was the first competition of the day, the true enthusiasm was reserved for the decathalon.

The men's high jump was a fair example of athleticism, save for one. Benuhal unfortunately did not have the discipline necessary to truly complete and after clearing the first height, he failed on all three tries during the second. Demoness did not fair much better, failing once on the second height and then completely failing the third. The gold and silver winners, however, provided a much better show, going neck and neck, before Intermaris was able to pull ahead and set a record.

The first half of the decathalon would begin today, allowing each competitor to complete half of the events and start anew tomorrow. Each even would be scored, allowing competitors to alter their placement based on overall performance rather than a single event.

This would also be the first time that the women would complete in a full decathalon rather than the heptathlon, as is traditional for females. If this works out, the female decathalon may become a permanent event.

Day Three
The third day would provide a break, both to Olympians and the observers. Fewer events were scheduled for today, allowing competitors in multiple events to rest a little or to tour the countryside of Benuhal. After all, the athletes were putting their best foot forward and deserved a rest.

This would be the last day the stadium saw any action, but it would be the culmination of events. The decathalon continued, again showing no true winner overall through each event. The Men's pole vault proved to be the most interesting, as the best three - Gran Draconis, Intermaris, and Cetatsenia - continued to climb closer to setting the records. While Intermaris and Cetatsenia eventually fell behind, Gran Draconis set a new record at 5.60.

The female decathalon proved to be just as entertaining. Benuhal and Gran Draconis were neck and neck. In fact, Benuhal nearly broke the record her male competitor had set earlier in the day: an impressive 5.50! Given the performance of the competitors, it can be confirmed that the female decathalon will become a permanent event.

Still in the warm-up phase, this site only hosted another two competitions, but nevertheless the athletes made certain the observers were on the edge of their seats. The winner of the men's freestyle was practically a photo finish, with the winner only finishing .27 seconds before second and each place after that had less of a gap. It was only the last two places that spoiled the race, finishing nearly a minute and a half after the gold.

The times of the women's freestyle were a little more spaced out, but the race was still close and the Intermarine competitor made up for the close loss of her team mate by finishing with a solid silver.

Men's 100 m freestyle
1 Cetatsenia 1 47.06

The stadium continued to be the center of bustle, holding the most events of the day and the first time fencing, gymnastics, and judo were performed with mixed competitors. This, like the decathalon, is a pilot program to ascertain if the tradition should continue, and the results clearly show that men and women do not need to be segregated.

In order to score the fencing event and facilitate the number of competitors, all athletes fenced against one another at least once. Stadium 1 was blocked off the entire day for each match and medals were awarded based on how many wins occurred. While no draws occurred, there were several close matches, and even competitors from the same country took no mercy on one another. Fencing also proved to be the most popular event with several countries entering multiple competitors. This assured the win for the top three countries, who also dominated the overall rankings and allowing Demoness to win two medals. Considering how close the rankings were, it wouldn't be surprising to see these competitors on the world stage again later this year.

Individual foil (fencing - mixed)

Despite being traditionally considered a female sport, it was a male who dominated the scores in gymnastics. In fact, the closeness of the silver and bronze winners may in fact incite some animosity among the female competitors as both were less than .1 behind Benuhal.

2 Gran Draconis Female 28.658
3 Demoness Female 28.652
4 Intermaris Female 27.994

6 Cetatsenia Male 27.613

The number of competitors for judo allowed for them to be sorted into a tree and to find an alternate winner. Placement was based on how many wins an athlete achieved in that tree. Ultimately, Demoness and Benuhal dominated the match, allowing Demoness to go home with gold and silver while Benuhal was able to secure two bronze medals.

OOC: I think some of the medals counts are off unless I seem to be missing something.

I have with me today our gold medalist in gymnastics, Kilo Batarnata. Nice to have you here with us Kilo.

Nice to be here Baten'si

Now I hear you grew up in the capital so how was it winning in this first ever world competitions in your own backyard.

It was great, I'm just glad I could pull through everyone. My Coach, my family and my friends most of all.

Were you afraid that you would fall behind to women in this one Kilo? I mean with most people considering gymnastics a female dominated sport where flexibility plays so much of a role.

I'm just glad the judges thought that we should be put in the same bracket this year. I think it's really a golden opportunity. I'm also thankful that the judges rated my execution so highly I think that's what gave me the edge in this one.

So any advice to your fellow Olympians on what they can do to win a gold?

Just stay focused is all I can say Baten'si. That a remember even if it's not a gold you've gotten to this level of competition and that alone is an achievement.

So there you have it folks. With our athletes out ahead we seem to be looking a a good sweep of the rosters sitting pretty with 22 medals and 44 aggregate points. But will that be the challenge the competitors from Intermaris need to rise to occasion and steal a couple medals away from us? Stay tuned to channel 12 for up to date Olympic coverage.

Day Four
As dawn broke on the final day, the realization that the events were over began to sink in. More souvenirs were bought, more celebrations made, and cheers were louder. After all, it was time to give it one's all!

Despite the solid wins of Cetatsenia the day before, the Cetatsen competitors seemed to settle for second place in nearly all events and sometimes by a margin of less than a second. The most exciting race was the men's 100 m backstroke in which the Benuhalese competitor won by 3/4ths of a second, amazing the crowd when he broke free from the pack.

The women's backstroke was no less exciting. For a moment, it seemed all three competitors would finish at the same time, but Benuhal misestimated her distance from the finish line. She gave up a moment too soon, allowing Intermaris and Cetatsenia to rocket past her for first and second, respectively.

Once the gun went off, the competitors of the breaststroke events shot from their places and cut through the water. Despite lasting only a minute, the beauty of apex athleticism made it seem to go on forever. The competitors moved without thinking, their bodies honed from years of experience and practice. It was a shame that only one could win, but the closeness of the times illustrated how well their training paid off.

The inclusion of table tennis was a controversial choice. To some, it was not a true sport but simply a parlor game. To others, it was just as difficult to master as the more accepted sports: it involved running, precision, and good reflexes. In fact, the small "field" on which it is played made the sport even more difficult in the eyes of fans. Perhaps, then, its inclusion in the Olympics would increase the number of competitors in the following years.

Three competitors entered and each played one another. As with standard, matches were played to eleven points and the winner must have at least two more points than the loser. Six matches were played and the best was declared winner.

Despite playing well, Benuhal appeared to need the first match to warm up and it cost her. Each of matches were close, but in the end she was unable to secure a win against either competitor. Intermaris won both matches, consistently winning each smaller match. Certainly, will wish to witness rematches in the future.

With wrestling divided by gender, it would be easy to segregate the events to each of the arenas, but officials felt it would be unfair to make wrestling fans choose. Instead, men were allowed to wrestle first, followed by their female counterparts, and each competitor wrestled each other once. Points were based on wins.

In men's wrestling, there was no question that Intermaris would take the gold as he did not lose a single round. Even the match between him and his closest challenger, Eigamst, proved Intermaris dominated the event. Eigamst, however, nearly managed perfect events; only once was Eigamst scored against, and that was by Demoness. If Eigamst had not been tired by the time he wrestled Intermaris, he may have taken the gold instead and with better stats.

Again, Intermaris dominated in women's wrestling, not only being undefeated but also refusing her opponents even one point. The other competitors, despite having as much heart, were forced to share medals as none were able to truly differentiate themselves from the pack. Demoness and Eigamst tied for the silver and Demoness was inconsistent in her matches: if she scored, she scored all the points, but if she lost, her score was zero. It was as if she were choosing her wins. Eigamst, on the other hand, performed consistently, even if she didn't win all her matches.

The final event to be held was to be the host's choice: Spear Point Fighting. An unusual sport, it originated in medieval times as part of certain countries' martial arts curriculum. However, as warfare changed, spear fighting was phased out and was kept alive only in the countries where the tradition was strongest. At the turn of the twentieth century, there was a revival in interest where several enthusiasts tried to recreate the sport from contemporary accounts and combined that knowledge with the surviving traditions. The result made it into the Olympics.

Naturally, athletes could not fight with deadly weapons and, like foils, were made non-lethal. If the blunted end touched an opponent, points were awarded based on which body part was touched. Since this was a sport practiced by both sexes, it was decided the first tournament would be of mixed genders to allow a better judgment of future competitions should it be decided the event stayed.

The competitors faced one another through several matches, meeting each athlete once. It became evident very quickly which countries kept the tradition alive and which had only revived it recently. Benuhal dominated their matches, winning both a gold and a silver, while the warrior blood of Fenwick allowed him to secure a silver as well. Intermaris barely made and had he not been tricked by Grand Draconis feint, he would have secured a silver as well. However, that feint also allowed both Gran Draconis competitors to respectably come in right behind Intermaris in points. The most disappointing result of this event was the placement of Demoness, who also boasted a warrior culture; hoping to win at least a bronze, the competitors came in at 8th and 10th. Better luck next time!

The stands of Isaan stadium were packed as the Olympic closing ceremony started.

The Olympic flame stood crackling away in the center of the field. At the stadium's edge High Councillor Lomeric Itil'mera stood cradling various national and Olympic flags in his arms. His smiling face could be seen multiple times across the stadium's various big screens.

Posted Image

As the athletes began to file from the vomitorium Lomeric could be seen greeting each individually before inclining his head to politely. After all the athletes had organized themselves into their national teams he handed the nominated flag bearers either their national flag or a ceremonial Olympic one. One by one the teams began to march down the track organized by medal count. This meant that the home team of Benuhal lead the pack as the athletes from Rehaanol took up the rear.

Posted Image

Each bearer enthusiastically waved their national flag as they made their lap except for the bearers for Cetatsenia and Intermaris who had opted to carry the Olympic flag provided for the ceremony. The bearer from Gran Draconis, Illa Hollens, instead chose to hold her flag so stock still that it seemed a part of her. Winding their way towards the stadiums centre the procession stopped in front of a white stage which had been erected as the athletes had walked. The lights dimmed and, for a moment, all that could be seen was by the light of the Olympic torch standing high on it's pedestal.

The lights flicked on to illuminate the stage where Lomeric and his colleges from the IOA (International Olympic Assembly) stood. Stepping up to the podium Lomeric began to speak and as he did so he could hear the crowd shuffle for their translation devices.

"Here in Benuhal we have a word. We say 'Omano.' This word means neither hello nor goodbye, simply it means 'see you later.' The world has come to Benuhal to celebrate something that we as humans can all understand; effort, drive, joy and the spirit of competition. Before us we have seen the best the athletic world has to offer. We have seen these great athletes compete and show us their hearts. Each stiving to be the best in the world. I stand before you Men and Women to congratulation you on behalf of the IOA, your nation, your piers, your family and the international community as a whole.

For today, you are all winners for showing us the brotherhood we all share. And today I say to you omano, not goodbye, but see you again. I hope that you can bring home your righteous spirits and high hopes and move us forward in this world. Omano and goodnight."

Loud clapping roared from both the stands and from the athletes themselves as the High Councillor bowed and retreated from the podium. The flag bearers approached the base of the Olympic torch in unison. Ferried to the top of the pedestal on hidden jack lifts the athletes stopped at the flame's peak. The Benuhal flag bearer, Tella Makano, was the first to dip her flag into the fire's cleansing flames and watch as they ate away her nation's flag. The whole stadium began the thrum with the Benuhalese national anthem during which the flag bearer was lowered out of sight once again.

The flag bearer, Bernard Jaskolski, from Intermaris was next smiling as the Olympic flag caught fire, changing the flame to a deep blue. The Intermaris anthem started and he almost lost his balance as his platform started to descend. Iuliu Bârladeanu from Cetatsenia began to pray as the Olympic flag he had been given slowly boiled away in green flames. Turning, he raised a fist in triumph to the crowd as he descended during is nation's anthem. The representative from Demoness, Aelda Kanzaka, teared up as her nation's flag burst quickly into a purple flame. He tears were caught on tape as she descended during her home anthem.

Posted Image

Gran Draconis's Illia Hollens gently guided her flag into the flames allowing them to soak thoroughly before releasing the pole causing the flame erupt white. She saluted in all military grace, staying as still as a post until her platform completely disappeared from sight. Maximus Meridius from Eigamst tossed his flag full on into the flames with a single hand and as the flames turned a bright yellow he yawned. Leaning back on his platform's railing he waited calmly as his platform descended. Nikolas Maslak from Fenwick looked a little uncertain he dipped his flag into the cauldron jumping back a little as his nation's flag caught. Leaning back against his platform's railing he watched the flame as he descended out of sight. The flag bearer from Rehaanol looked happy to be there lighting her flag at the tip and waving it around enthusiastically before flipping it end over end into the flames causing them to surge red. She was grinning happily as her platform descended into the darkness.

Once again the only light was the flame until a dome was lowered from above "snuffing" it out. The truth being that the flame would be kept until the next Olympic torch could be lit. But, the act marked the end of the ceremony and the lights of the stadium raised and watchers were ushered out of the stadium.
