Feoras is a land of great beauty and great sorrow. In ancient times, the isolated island was its own world, warring, celebrating, and living by its own rules. Its first contact with the outside world was violent, but it resulted in the assimilation of the invader culture into its own. However, this would not be the trend and the next encounter ended with Feoras being the assimilated party. For centuries, it was subjugated by Demonessian masters until the modern age brought with it change: enormous destruction, followed by brief freedom and then patronizing stewardship. The island suffered from poverty, but there was still beauty to be found. While its five remaining ethnicities live in an enforced peace, the tourist areas benefit from the economic boon and generate a false sense of wealth. Tourists are attracted by Mauna Inaka, the volcanic center of the island, and the black sand beaches she generated. The gentle slope of the continental shelf allows swimmers to wade into a seemingly endless sea and walk up to boats parked in the shallows. Its coral reefs are untouched in certain parts of the island and the fauna found there are unmatched. With the economy centered around the tourism trade, it is hard to leave the main areas. However, the adventurous tourist may find other ways to pass the time. The Genfiotes in the south control the tourism areas, making sure they are clean and presentable, as do their neighbors in Ahi'iana. The Genfiotes, however, present a curiosity: their religious leaders, known as the Undying. These leaders dress entirely in grey and cover their faces with a mask and veil. When they speak, they speak as if they are not an individual; they speak as if they are from a collective consciousness, which can be unnerving for some. In Fuwoku, one can find the farmers, who toil away in the dirt and respect animals as much as humans. For the adventurous, there is Kain, a land of warriors where the leader is determined through battle prowess. While Mpali represents the industrialized portion of the island, Isis certainly fairs the best as the seat of the former colonial masters. Humanitarians may seek to provide relief from poverty and criminals may find a new foothold, but tourists, explorers, and travelers may find adventure. |

"I understand. There are lots of people all over the island who try to preserve things like that, but I am not one of them. We have lived on this island for thousands of years, yet we cannot peacefully coincide. If a few languages disappear, I don't care. They are not mine." |

Vlad looked obviously taken aback by Kakia words, with his mouth agape. But before he had the chance to speak up, his brother spoke. "Zat is razer narrow-minded," Andrei said simply. |

"Perhaps, but you have not lived here or experienced the history of our island," Kakia replied with a shrug. "We have lived here for thousands of years and still exist as separate 'countries'. The only time we were united as one people were against the Demonessians and once they disappeared as foes we turned on each other and restarted old grudges." She shook her head. "It's bad enough we have to live under martial law just so we can coexist. I don't care if a few languages disappear if it means we will move forward to one culture." |

"Now zat is a perfectly good reason," Andrei replied with a shrug, "But not caring just because ze language is not yours is not." "But is abandoning your individual cultures really necessary?" Vlad asked, "Zat cannot be ze only way to coexist, can it?" |

Kakia shrugged. "It seems to be. Even the Demonessians weren't the only ones to make use cooperate, but they were the most successful. There was another a long, long time ago, but when its power began to wane they were destroyed entirely. Only their god remains. Once they were gone, then we started to fight again." She turned back to Andrei. "Besides, why should I care if it is not my language? My culture has done much for the island. Our priests stopped the worst from happening to our people, the whole island, and still hold much power today. It is only natural to expect wish my culture to survive." |

"Zere is nozing wrong wiz wanting your culture to survive, but zat does not mean you should not care about ozers disappearing," Andrei said, then thought for a moment, "Zough could I possibly have some clarification? Do you want a single combined culture, or do you want your culture to dominate all ze ozers?" |

Kakia sniffled. "Who wouldn't say that they want their culture to dominate? Ours is perhaps the most peaceful on the island! But I would settle for the Kainics to adopt the others' culture. They are too aggressive. They are the root of all the aggression that takes place on the island." |

Andrei shrugged, "I will have to take your word for it; I do not really know much about ze cultures of ze island." By this point, Vlad was glancing back and forth between Andrei and Kakia; the pleasant outing had taken a rather unfortunate turn. He would much rather get back to a more pleasant topic, but he couldn't think of anything off the top of his head. "So, when do zink ze dessert will be here?" he asked, then groaned internally. That was hardly a question to provoke a conversation. |

Kakia shrugged. "Soon, I should think. We all ordered simple things. Perhaps they forgot," she muttered petulantly. The argument had put a damper on her good spirits, but hers was the attitude of nearly all Feorasans. It was why most, when asked, chose to identify by their group rather than by the island demonym. And Genfiotes, of which she was one, would always act as if they were the saviors simply because their religion's priests, the Undying, had stopped the wholesale slaughter, but the Genfiotes had been among the least affected during the Demonessian occupation, something that the other groups could not drill into their heads. |

"Anyway," Vlad began, but had to stop to think for a long moment before continuing on, "You mentioned your priests earlier. I am not particularly knowledgeable about your religion, and I am curious about what you all believe." "Us Cetatsens are mostly Mezyanists," Andrei said, "One of our brozers is actually a priest himself." |
