Feoras is a land of great beauty and great sorrow. In ancient times, the isolated island was its own world, warring, celebrating, and living by its own rules. Its first contact with the outside world was violent, but it resulted in the assimilation of the invader culture into its own. However, this would not be the trend and the next encounter ended with Feoras being the assimilated party. For centuries, it was subjugated by Demonessian masters until the modern age brought with it change: enormous destruction, followed by brief freedom and then patronizing stewardship. The island suffered from poverty, but there was still beauty to be found. While its five remaining ethnicities live in an enforced peace, the tourist areas benefit from the economic boon and generate a false sense of wealth. Tourists are attracted by Mauna Inaka, the volcanic center of the island, and the black sand beaches she generated. The gentle slope of the continental shelf allows swimmers to wade into a seemingly endless sea and walk up to boats parked in the shallows. Its coral reefs are untouched in certain parts of the island and the fauna found there are unmatched. With the economy centered around the tourism trade, it is hard to leave the main areas. However, the adventurous tourist may find other ways to pass the time. The Genfiotes in the south control the tourism areas, making sure they are clean and presentable, as do their neighbors in Ahi'iana. The Genfiotes, however, present a curiosity: their religious leaders, known as the Undying. These leaders dress entirely in grey and cover their faces with a mask and veil. When they speak, they speak as if they are not an individual; they speak as if they are from a collective consciousness, which can be unnerving for some. In Fuwoku, one can find the farmers, who toil away in the dirt and respect animals as much as humans. For the adventurous, there is Kain, a land of warriors where the leader is determined through battle prowess. While Mpali represents the industrialized portion of the island, Isis certainly fairs the best as the seat of the former colonial masters. Humanitarians may seek to provide relief from poverty and criminals may find a new foothold, but tourists, explorers, and travelers may find adventure. |

Kakia shrugged. "Try telling the government that. Hell, our first and only president tried to establish a secular government and maintain religious freedom. It didn't work out for his presidency at all. The Kainics decided to use 'religious freedom' to crown King Amhlaidh and President Keaweikekahialiʻiokamoku decided declaring martial law was the best response. It did not go over well and led to the beginning of the civil war." |

"How exactly does religious freedom translate into crowning a King?" Vlad asked, tilting his head in confusion. "I assume ze monarchy was tied to religion here too?" Andrei said. |

"Yes. The Kanics believe that their king is favored by the Kilin and will be proven through active combat," Kakia replied, scoffing slightly. "That is why they crowned their king and since President Keaweikekahialiʻiokamoku did not earn his position through combat they decided to challenge his right to rule the island. The Kainics only understand force." |

"Zat sounds like a razer, er..." Vlad began, but trailed off. He wasn't quite sure how exactly to express what he was thinking without being offensive; he didn't think Kakia would care, since she didn't seem to have a very high opinion of them, but he didn't actually know much about them and didn't wish to seem ignorant. His brother, however, had no such qualms. "Primitive," Andrei finished for his brother, "I am all for religious freedom, but zat is no way to govern in ze modern era. It only leads to trouble." |

Kakia raised an eyebrow, clearly expressing, "What do you think I've been saying?" After a moment of that, she continued, "But they keep insisting. I think the only reason they respect Demonessian rule is because their asses have been continuously kicked by them." She sighed, and then smirked a moment later. "They do have excellent sports teams and coaches at least, even if they can't govern worth a damn." |

"Well, zat does make sense," Andrei said, "More azletic people can make better soldiers. Sometimes at least." |

"It's part of their religion. Sports and war games are related and they like to keep in shape for war," Kakia replied. "Though it is amazing that they survived this long. I would have thought they would have killed each other off by now, but I suppose they had others to focus on." |

Kakia shrugged. "I'd ask someone who knows better. I don't pretend to understand them," she said dismissively. She had finished her dessert by now and was conscious of the sun setting quickly over the horizon. Most would assume that with the sun retreating the air would grow colder, but a warm breeze blew in from the ocean keeping the temperature approximately even. "I should probably be going. Are you sure you don't want to come along?" |

The two of them were finishing up their desserts as well, though they weren't quite finished with them yet. They both thought for a quick moment before shaking their heads. "No zank you," Vlad said, "I have had enough fun for today. I will not mind meeting up tomorrow zough." "Same here," Andrei said simply. |
