Feoras is a land of great beauty and great sorrow. In ancient times, the isolated island was its own world, warring, celebrating, and living by its own rules. Its first contact with the outside world was violent, but it resulted in the assimilation of the invader culture into its own. However, this would not be the trend and the next encounter ended with Feoras being the assimilated party. For centuries, it was subjugated by Demonessian masters until the modern age brought with it change: enormous destruction, followed by brief freedom and then patronizing stewardship. The island suffered from poverty, but there was still beauty to be found. While its five remaining ethnicities live in an enforced peace, the tourist areas benefit from the economic boon and generate a false sense of wealth. Tourists are attracted by Mauna Inaka, the volcanic center of the island, and the black sand beaches she generated. The gentle slope of the continental shelf allows swimmers to wade into a seemingly endless sea and walk up to boats parked in the shallows. Its coral reefs are untouched in certain parts of the island and the fauna found there are unmatched. With the economy centered around the tourism trade, it is hard to leave the main areas. However, the adventurous tourist may find other ways to pass the time. The Genfiotes in the south control the tourism areas, making sure they are clean and presentable, as do their neighbors in Ahi'iana. The Genfiotes, however, present a curiosity: their religious leaders, known as the Undying. These leaders dress entirely in grey and cover their faces with a mask and veil. When they speak, they speak as if they are not an individual; they speak as if they are from a collective consciousness, which can be unnerving for some. In Fuwoku, one can find the farmers, who toil away in the dirt and respect animals as much as humans. For the adventurous, there is Kain, a land of warriors where the leader is determined through battle prowess. While Mpali represents the industrialized portion of the island, Isis certainly fairs the best as the seat of the former colonial masters. Humanitarians may seek to provide relief from poverty and criminals may find a new foothold, but tourists, explorers, and travelers may find adventure. |

Hana's responsibilities for the team included information as well as languages. Cetatsenia was outside her expertise as her training mostly focused on southern Haizia and places that troubled Demoness; that training would be supplemented if she was inserted elsewhere. However, she did have a cursory knowledge of important figures, especially in friendly and hostile nations, and she had a good idea of who Vlad could be, which is precisely why she was secretly glad her training was as good as it was. She was used to deep cover and had learned to even control micro-expressions, whose existence was made popular by a recent television show, so she hadn't visibly betrayed her suspicions. Despite this, she very much wanted to throttle her sister because if Vlad were royalty then the situation had gone from bad to absolutely fucked. They couldn't just release him now, not when his kidnapping would bring international attention to the operation and the island, but continuing to hold him was more dangerous. She smiled. "You may call me Kristall," she said, utilizing her ambiguous ethnicity. A brief thought flickered through her mind and she turned her head to speak to Arashi. "Okuloj." Arashi looked up from her reading. "Skatolo?" "Neniu," she replied and Arashi wrinkled her nose; that meant there was no solution and her eyes were dry already from the bay. She refocused her attention on Vlad. "Are you hungry? I'm afraid we don't have much in the way of food, but there are some crackers and canned meat and I think I might be able to conjure up some tea." --- "I don't know the number! I've never needed to call!" the man exclaimed. "The only time I've ever seen an ambulance was to pick up a body." At this stage, Andrei might remember that Feoras was one of the countries in the world that did not have a universal emergency number. Hotels and restaurants would know the number to treat their customers, but the average person did not expect these services in a timely manner. Even with universal healthcare, they were poor and contributed very little to the local economy. |

"No, uh, no zank you. I ate not long before we met your sister," Vlad said, "And I somehow managed not to zrow it all back up." He gave a half-hearted chuckle, trying to act as casual as he possibly could while in an old basement with the woman who kidnapped him and her sister. It wasn't particularly easy, since while Hana's demeanour put him at ease he was still nervous about the whole situation. ------ "Fiu de catea," was Andrei's only response as he did remember that fact about information. He would've recalled it earlier but his mind was preoccupied at the moment. He growled in frustration, not just at the man but at the entire situation he had been thrust into. "Do you at least know where ze closest one is?" he asked, "I do not even give a damn if it is some back-alley doctor. You would know where one of zose are, right?" |

Hana's smile widened. "You have done well, given the situation, Vlad," she replied. Behind her, Arashi stood up from the table and left the room to head to the bathroom, where her movements could be heard. Hana continued, "Why don't you tell me what happened? Then I'll answer any questions you might have. How did you end up in my sister's custody?" It was a gentle way of asking the previous events and it would allow her to pierce them together along with a proper cover story. They would have to tread lightly and she doubted there would be a clean break from this operation, but avoiding being identified was highest on her list of priorities. While she would rather not kill the man before her, she had put years into her talents and work and she had a duty to preserve that. --- The man wrinkled his nose. "I know where mine is, but he's several blocks that way," he replied, pointing behind him toward the commotion near the docks, which may have started to clear up. "I'm not making it that far. I'm gonna-" He looked at his leg. "Do you know what you're doing?" It was around this time the thug started to rethink his life choices as the absurdity of the situation started to set in. He was not dependent on this stranger and he was not happy because it was clear he wouldn't be able to bully him. |

"Um, okay. We were on our way back to our hotel when your sister came up behind us pretending to be a drunk tourist. We tried to help her out, but zen some guy comes out of nowhere and grabs her," Vlad explained, "Then there was sort of a scuffle, my brozer got ze gun and zey talked for a bit. Zen your sister charged my brozer, and she managed to get ze gun. Zen your sister held me hostage and brought me here." ------ "I am Special Forces and trained in first-aid, so I know exactly what I am doing," Andrei replied, the irritation clear in his voice, "It also means you would not be able to get away from me even wizout a hole in your leg." Then Andrei stood up and looked over in the direction the man had pointed, sighing and shaking his head in frustration. Then he stood up, having done what he could for the man's leg. Thankfully he'd managed to stem the bleeding, but he still required medical attention if he wanted to live. "Alright, listen up," he said, kneeling back down, "I am going to carry you zere." Hana paused as she considered Vlad's words. His narrative didn't help her solve what had gone wrong with her sister, but it did shed some light: one of their "associates" managed to track her down after she escaped the docks. He'd blown her cover, whatever it was, and she lost control of the situation. "Did she hurt you, Vlad? I didn't see any marks," she said gently. "I'm sorry if she did. She can be a bit brutish, but she means well." She reached out and gave him a cursory examination; she doubted he'd been more than roughed up as he didn't seem particularly threatening and her touch was more to establish a rapport. Her fingers lingered as she continued. "What did the man want, Vlad?" --- "Like hell, you are!" Polunu exclaimed and tried to push himself up. In doing so, he restarted the bleeding, but it appeared that it was mostly stemmed by Andrei's handiwork. "You aren't my mate and I ain't going to be carried around here like some kid!" |

At first Vlad pulled away at the woman's touch, but decided that it was best to just let her go through with it. "I am fine, but she is lucky my brozer did not hurt her," he said, then winced as the woman touched him again. It wasn't out of pain, since he was uninjured, he just didn't like having this woman touching him. "And I zink ze man was angry zat she had betrayed him, or zem, or somezing," he continued, "So are you two really cops?" ------ In one quick movement Andrei grabbed Polunu around the neck. He pulled the man up and brought him close to his face. From Andrei's expression it was obvious that he would allow no argument, and his words only sealed the deal. "You eizer let me do it, or I crush your neck until you pass out and try and find a hospital on my own," Andrei said, "Eizer way you are getting carried by me and turned into ze police, provided you actually survive. But I am not exactly familiar wiz ze city, so only one option has a good chance of you getting medical care in time." |

Hana noticed Vlad's reaction and stopped touching. Instead, she sat across from him and continued with the genial approach. "Yes, we are cops... Well, at least I am. My sister is not, but I was enlisting her help," she replied with reluctance, hinting that it had not been her choice. "Why is she lucky that your brother didn't hurt her?" --- Polunu's eyes flicked back and forth as he reconsidered the situation. Fighting was an option, and one he was sorely tempted to take, but if he knocked out the guy then he wouldn't be any better off. His leg hurt and he was feeling weak as the effects of adrenaline began to lessen. His shoulder was already in a lot of pain and his head was dizzy between those signals and the blood loss. He swore and then angrily answered, "Fine! Good. Let's go." |

"My brozer is special forces, but he does not like killing people," Vlad replied, "Which is probably why he did not just shoot her." He did find it a little strange that this woman was saying her sister wasn't a cop when he remembered her very clearly saying she was. He actually found it to be a little suspicious, which didn't do anything to help calm him down. But he was still far calmer than he was when he was being taken here. ------ Andrei didn't say anything as he picked the man up, which was no easy task. After all, he was still injured and Andrei wanted to be sure he wouldn't cause the wound to bleed out any more. But eventually he managed to carefully lift the man up, one arm behind his back and one under his knees. "All right, now which way to zis doctor of yours?" he asked, in a hurry to get this over with. |

Hana sighed. "Yes, it probably is for the best," she replied. That snippet explained the altercation and possibly the kidnapping, but that still didn't clear her sister from overreacting. "Vlad, did you have questions?" She looked toward the bathroom; her sister was taking a long time to remove her contacts. In the dim light, it made little difference, but her continued removal from the room would alleviate the tension. --- Polunu screamed involuntarily as the movement jolted muted pain in his shoulder and it actually overrode the feeling in his leg. Handling him was a situation that was loud and long and it was suspicious that cops hadn't shown up yet since they were still in the "tourist" area. Perhaps it had something to do with the commotion down at the docks earlier. He didn't have much option but to try to explain their destination through gritted teeth. With one arm out of commission and the other stabilizing him with Andrei, he had no choice but to use words. It was a distance down the straight stretch that would turn off the main road and weave through back streets. |

"Not really," Vlad said simply, because to be perfectly honest he mostly cared about getting out of this place. He was glad that the other woman was still gone, as he didn't much like her. Though he was away that this woman wasn't necessarily as nice as she was acting, it was still a nice pace compared to being forced to travel at gunpoint. ------ Andrei didn't react much to the screaming, except to try and shift in a way that didn't cause the man to scream. But he nodded at the man's words, and started heading off in the direction of the doctor. He was completely silent as he carried the man, except when he needed to ask for directions since he wasn't familiar with the layout of the city. And to be perfectly honest, he wouldn't have minded the cops showing up as it would get this man off of his hands and he could inform them about his brother's kidnapping. But it hadn't been an exceptionally long time, and he hadn't heard a gunshot. Though he was well aware that not hearing one didn't mean she hadn't shot him. |
