Feoras is a land of great beauty and great sorrow. In ancient times, the isolated island was its own world, warring, celebrating, and living by its own rules. Its first contact with the outside world was violent, but it resulted in the assimilation of the invader culture into its own. However, this would not be the trend and the next encounter ended with Feoras being the assimilated party. For centuries, it was subjugated by Demonessian masters until the modern age brought with it change: enormous destruction, followed by brief freedom and then patronizing stewardship.

The island suffered from poverty, but there was still beauty to be found. While its five remaining ethnicities live in an enforced peace, the tourist areas benefit from the economic boon and generate a false sense of wealth. Tourists are attracted by Mauna Inaka, the volcanic center of the island, and the black sand beaches she generated. The gentle slope of the continental shelf allows swimmers to wade into a seemingly endless sea and walk up to boats parked in the shallows. Its coral reefs are untouched in certain parts of the island and the fauna found there are unmatched.

With the economy centered around the tourism trade, it is hard to leave the main areas. However, the adventurous tourist may find other ways to pass the time. The Genfiotes in the south control the tourism areas, making sure they are clean and presentable, as do their neighbors in Ahi'iana. The Genfiotes, however, present a curiosity: their religious leaders, known as the Undying. These leaders dress entirely in grey and cover their faces with a mask and veil. When they speak, they speak as if they are not an individual; they speak as if they are from a collective consciousness, which can be unnerving for some. In Fuwoku, one can find the farmers, who toil away in the dirt and respect animals as much as humans. For the adventurous, there is Kain, a land of warriors where the leader is determined through battle prowess. While Mpali represents the industrialized portion of the island, Isis certainly fairs the best as the seat of the former colonial masters.

Humanitarians may seek to provide relief from poverty and criminals may find a new foothold, but tourists, explorers, and travelers may find adventure.

"You do have some common sense then," Hana remarked. "But I am crossing the road into that territory. I will try to protect you, but I can't make any promises given our future company and I doubt you will like it much more than the earlier part of your evening."

---

"You are rich," the man translated as the old woman indicated his clothes. "You can afford something."

"I zink I will take my chances," was Vlad's reply, though from the tone of his voice one could tell that he wasn't particularly happy with it. Neither option really appealed to him, but only one had him walking through the slums of a foreign city alone, where he had no idea how to get back to the hotel.

------

"I could if I wanted to, but I do not," Andrei replied, trying to keep the irritation out of his voice, "He was ze one who was injured, and he is ze one who wanted to come here. He will pay you."

Hana nodded solemnly. She moved quickly, dashing between houses to keep in the shadows, and moved in this fashion at least a block down the street and possibly further into the territory. She seemed light-footed and at home in the shadows and while she never looked back at Vlad, she did wait for him to catch up to her. She seemingly chose a random building that was a few stories taller than the ones around it and climbed the facade. Window sills and cracks became hand and footholds and she seemed to expect Vlad to make his own way up the building, though she was patient if silent in instructing him.

After the two of them made it up to the rooftop, she took a pair of binoculars from her backpack and focused on a building about a hundred feet away. From this new vantage point, Vlad could see several different groups of people hanging around, typically on doorsteps, but it did appear that some were looking to start trouble. A group was heading north - behind Hana and Vlad - to intersect another group and shouting could be heard. Hana was unperturbed by the boiling disturbance and after studying the building for a few minutes she put away the binoculars and dug into the bag again. She pulled out a wig and quickly transformed from herself into a more street savvy woman. "I'll be back. You can watch through the binoculars if you like." More seriously, she added, "If you hear more than one gunshot, duck down and wait here for ten minutes. Then head straight back to Sedhleton Road and try the directions I told you."

She slipped over the edge, leaving the bag with Vlad, and headed toward the building. Her walk was heavier, a saunter, and her posture had changed. She threw open the door and started shouting immediately.

---

"Then you will stay until he wakes. No one leaves until I get paid."

Vlad was honestly surprised he was able to make it up the building. Despite the constant fear of falling off and breaking his neck and the fact that he wasn't the most athletic of individuals he managed to follow Hana to the roof, albeit at a snail's pace. And as soon as he arrived, he sat down on the roof panting. It was plainly obvious to Hana that he wasn't used to that sort of physical exertion, though part of it was also the fear. He didn't even bother looking around and so he simply heard the commotion beginning in the streets.

When Hana left, all Vlad bothered to do was nod. And so he sat on the roof waiting for a few moments before a realization hit him. Perhaps his information was in the bag, and maybe even a phone of some sort. So he began rummaging through it, looking for anything of value.

------

Andrei sighed, but it was obvious the woman wasn't open to any arguments. "Can I at least make a phone call?" he asked.

The contents of Hana's bag were like raiding the props department of a film. Several items he recognized as having probable use for law enforcement, but they had equal use to spies, criminals, or terrorists, if his assumptions about the objects were true. The handful of items he could readily identify included a black substance, a mirror, a lockpick, and cold cream; other items included what may have been some surveying equipment and electronic devices. There was also an extra case of ammo and what appeared to be the mate to Arashi's wire. Fiddling with it yielded no results; either he did not know how to turn it on or it didn't produce static when in a passive state. While he did not find his identification, he found her two sets. The Feorasi set was the identification she had shown him, but there was also a passport that had Krystall and a different surname. The photos were similar, but not identical, and her hair was lighter and eyes darker on Krystall's passport. Other than that, both sets appeared to be legitimate forms of identification.

If Vlad looked back toward the direction they came, he would notice a column of smoke billowing from the approximate location of Hana's hideout and an APC, set to pass by his building, turned toward the commotion. Hana was still engaged with the group in the building and appeared to be bullying and physically assaulting a few of them, but he could not understand what she was shouting.

---

The woman nodded and then went back to Polunu to check on him. She spoke some more, but the words were clearly for her companion as he did not translate.

Vlad sighed as he finished rummaging through the contents of the bag. Nothing that was really of use to him, and nothing that helped him piece together what the hell was actually going on. The passports were rather strange, but they could feasibly be used for an undercover cop. Or a criminal hiding their identity. He sat down next to the bag, shaking his head in disbelief. A simple desire to help what he thought was a drunk tourist had turned into this.

He noticed the smoke billowing upward, but he didn't put two and two together and connect it with Hana. He wasn't even entirely sure that was the direction they'd come from, unfamiliar with the city as he was. After another few long moments of pondering, he looked over to see what exactly it was that Hana was doing. He did hope that she knew what she was doing, since she was the best bet he had for returning to a less-dangerous part of the city. Walking around alone here was just asking for trouble.

------

Andrei didn't bother to respond, and just took out his phone. He was going to call his brother, since that seemed the most prudent course of action. Calling the police wasn't the best idea; the people around him wouldn't appreciate that and he'd have to speak English so they'd know what he was saying. No, he'd have a private conversation with his brother in Cetatsen.

That's what he planned to do at least, but that course of action died as soon as Andrei looked at his phone. His cell phone battery was completely dead, and he hadn't thought to carry around its charger with him. After all, he planned to be back in his hotel room by now.

"Fiul bastard de o curvă," he said angrily, and louder than he'd intended. Now he had no course of action to take, and he was stuck here unless he could force his way out or Polunu woke up. Forcing his way out was dangerous on account of his being unarmed, but who knew how soon Polunu would wake from his drunken stupor.

"Is zere any way we could wake him up?" he asked to nobody in particular, gesturing to the unconscious Polunu.

Whatever commotion Hana had wrought had begun to die down, but there was clearly still tension in the room. Her could see her lips move and she must have given an order for her companions began to file out of the building. There were four with her, each who elected to take a different route, and she stopped the last in line while the other three looked to be on a mission of some kind. Two took off with each other, clearly discussing in low tones what had just occurred, and the third went off on his own. Hana yelled at the couple and they reluctantly split.

The man Hana held back was larger than her, but he had a very bloodied face and she pinned him against the wall. Vlad could not hear what she said to him, other than it was clearly aggressive, and he parted her company after another tense moment. She ducked back into the house for several minutes and returned with a bag tucked under her arm. She checked to see that no one was near and headed toward Vlad.

Behind Vlad, the two gangs had broken into open violence and it appeared that several weapons were involved. The street grew quieter around them and while one of Hana's gang looked on, he did not seem particularly concerned by the proceedings and took a different path after watching for several minutes.

Hana reappeared on the rooftop, silent as a shadow, and handed Vlad the bag, which was the size of a briefcase. "When you see the authorities, will you give that to them?" she said politely as she crouched down and removed her disguise.

---

"Oi?" The younger woman's attention was caught by his inquiry. The guard translated for Andrei and she replied, "He is resting. He had much to drink. Dislocation is very painful, but Amu held off on giving him too much alcohol because it thins the blood. We don't want him bleeding too much. He already lost much blood. I do not want to wake him up too early."

"Huh?" Vlad said, turning his attention away from the violence that had erupted when Hana shoved the briefcase into his hands, "All right."

He glanced back over to the violence before looking to Hana. "Did you do zat?" he asked, "Do I want to know why? Could you even tell me anyway?"

------

"Well zat is an issue, because I really need to leave," Andrei said, "As soon as possible." He glanced at the guard, judging whether or not he'd be able to take him on without getting killed. Or at least seriously injured. He was probably just a common thug, so Andrei was confident that it was possible if he had the element of surprise. But he really didn't want it to come to that.

Hana paused packing her disguise into her bag to look at the commotion and shook her head as she went back to what she'd been doing. "No, I didn't do that. This place is filled with poverty and instead of working together to get out of it, they instead further divide themselves and fight over 'territory' and imagined slights." She stood again and pointed out the sides. "They both are Ahi'ianan. They're in a Genfi neighborhood, but if a Genfi gang came up to them they'd be able to wipe out both gangs since the Ahi'ianans wouldn't work together. That group wants to control the five blocks north of here while that side thinks that everything in this twenty block area is theirs for drugs. That's not even true and they wouldn't be a challenge to the real owners." She slung her bag over her shoulder. "No, what I did was send my guys out on a mission and take the evidence." She nodded toward the bag Vlad held. "Are you ready to climb down?"

---

The girl shrugged. "Then pay," she said and went back into the other room where the old woman was.

There was a knock on the door, which the man answered after pulling his pistol again. As with Polunu, the man at the door showed the guard a tattoo, the view of which the man seemed to relax. They exchanged words in Poi, during which Andrei caught the mention of Polunu, and the guard pointed toward the back where Polunu was resting. The new man started toward the back, but the guard held him up and issued some sort of warning. The newcomer shrugged it off with some sort of comment and brushed past Andrei as he went into the back.

Vlad only half-paid attention to Hana's explanation of the gang confrontation, since why it was going on wasn't important to him. But he wasn't looking forward to climbing down the building. "Do we have to climb down?" he asked, "Why not use ze stairs?"

------

Andrei's frustration was beginning to get the better of him and he began to say something rather rude in Cetatsen to the young woman, but he was interrupted by the knock on the door. He thought he heard Polunu's name mentioned, but he wasn't sure until the guard pointed in that direction and the man started moving that way. He didn't think he'd been followed here, since he was certain to look out for anyone and it had been a considerable length of time since he'd arrived.

As the newcomer ignored the guard's words and continued on, Andrei looked at him more closely. After all, it seemed obvious he and Polunu were in the same gang, which didn't endear him to Andrei in the slightest. Andrei said nothing as the man brushed past him, though he did turn to watch newcomer. He wanted to know what the man wanted with Polunu.
