Feoras is a land of great beauty and great sorrow. In ancient times, the isolated island was its own world, warring, celebrating, and living by its own rules. Its first contact with the outside world was violent, but it resulted in the assimilation of the invader culture into its own. However, this would not be the trend and the next encounter ended with Feoras being the assimilated party. For centuries, it was subjugated by Demonessian masters until the modern age brought with it change: enormous destruction, followed by brief freedom and then patronizing stewardship.

The island suffered from poverty, but there was still beauty to be found. While its five remaining ethnicities live in an enforced peace, the tourist areas benefit from the economic boon and generate a false sense of wealth. Tourists are attracted by Mauna Inaka, the volcanic center of the island, and the black sand beaches she generated. The gentle slope of the continental shelf allows swimmers to wade into a seemingly endless sea and walk up to boats parked in the shallows. Its coral reefs are untouched in certain parts of the island and the fauna found there are unmatched.

With the economy centered around the tourism trade, it is hard to leave the main areas. However, the adventurous tourist may find other ways to pass the time. The Genfiotes in the south control the tourism areas, making sure they are clean and presentable, as do their neighbors in Ahi'iana. The Genfiotes, however, present a curiosity: their religious leaders, known as the Undying. These leaders dress entirely in grey and cover their faces with a mask and veil. When they speak, they speak as if they are not an individual; they speak as if they are from a collective consciousness, which can be unnerving for some. In Fuwoku, one can find the farmers, who toil away in the dirt and respect animals as much as humans. For the adventurous, there is Kain, a land of warriors where the leader is determined through battle prowess. While Mpali represents the industrialized portion of the island, Isis certainly fairs the best as the seat of the former colonial masters.

Humanitarians may seek to provide relief from poverty and criminals may find a new foothold, but tourists, explorers, and travelers may find adventure.

"The stairs don't go to the roof," Hana answered, pointing at the lack of access. "That's why I chose this vantage point. You'll be fine climbing down. It'll be easier in fact, but I can take the bag until we're on the ground."

---

Since Polunu was in a different room, Andrei could only overhear rather than observe. The newcomer said something unintelligible, repeated it, and then the sound of flesh against flesh could be heard. The guard immediately reacted to the sound and quickly headed toward the back. The girl's high voice was chastising and the newcomer's was angry and they argued for a few minutes before the guard roughly escorted the newcomer to the front door and threw him out. He issued another stern warning and the newcomer shouted back a smart retort from the tone of his voice.

Vlad looked around and noted the lack of room access, wondering to himself how he'd missed that before. But in truth he hadn't really taken the time to look around the roof closely. Then he handed the bag to Hana and sighed. "All right," he said, and readied himself to climb down after her.

------

Andrei listened in on the conversation, though he couldn't understand what was being said. But when he heard someone being hit and the guard making his way back, he saw his chance and took it. Checking to make sure there was nobody else watching he slipped out the front door. He wanted to make his way as far from the building as possible, since he'd rather not have the man coming after him. But he had no idea where to go, and he couldn't check his phone to look for a way back to the more affluent parts of the city. He could try and retrace his steps, but that wouldn't get him anywhere.

But that man, he could be a help. After all, he seemed to be affiliated with Polunu's gang and it was obvious that the woman who'd kidnapped Vlad was affiliated with them as well. Or at least had been pretending to be affiliated with them. Perhaps he could help Andrei in finding her, and his brother.

So Andrei waited nearby for the man to leave, and smiled when he saw that he'd been thrown out. It meant that the man probably wouldn't go back and tell the guard that Andrei was still hanging around. "Hey, you," he said once the guard had gone back inside, "You speak English?"

Hana stuffed the extra bag into hers. "You'll be fine," she repeated reassuringly and lifted herself over the edge. She was light on her feet and clearly had practice scaling walls. The ground thankfully was only hard-packed dirt rather than cement, but it was probably of small comfort to Vlad. She waited patiently below him, ready to catch him if necessary, and then handed his smaller bag back to him.

"So what is your choice?" she asked rather ambiguously.

---

Liko turned his head and eyed Andrei suspiciously. The man was clearly not from the island and had no business being in the slums, but he had been in the house with Polunu and that gave him a bit of credibility. "A little," he responded.

Vlad had a few minor missteps on the way down, he wasn't used to this after all, but he managed to make it to the ground without falling. That was a comfort at least; he was still in the middle of the slums with his kidnappers sister, but at least he wasn't injured.

He took the bag from Hana without question, but blinked in confusion at her question. "My choice?" he asked, "About what?"

------

So this man did speak some English, that would make things far easier for Andrei. Though he didn't smile at this fact; he still had his brother to find after all. "So what exactly did you want wiz Polunu?" he asked Liko, "It did not sound like a friendly visit between friends."

Hana shrugged. "I'm not holding you hostage and you've seen what I'm doing. It's probably only going to get more dangerous than this. I can take you back a few blocks, but I'm not going to escort you to a police station. So your options are to either stick with me or figure out your own way back to a police station."

---

Liko frowned as he tried to understand what Andrei said through his accent. Despite English being a mandatory language, he had never done well in the subject before he dropped out of school and while he knew enough to get by on the island, the man's accent made his comprehension a little harder. "Xe not my friend," he replied, using the Mora standard of gender-neutral pronouns. "Xe, ano... did bad thing us," he said, though he did not entirely sound convinced himself.

"Are you sure you cannot escort me back to a police station? Or at least a few blocks from one?" Vlad asked, though he didn't sound hopeful about receiving a 'yes' answer. To be honest, neither choice appealed to him. Sticking with her would put him in more danger, but trying to find his way back alone might put him in danger as well. Then a thought came to him.

"You are trying to find your sister, right?" he asked.

------

That was interesting at least, he hadn't expected Polunu to have done anything against whatever group he was a part of. Unless they blamed him for whatever made him suspect Arashi; or perhaps they knew he went after her and didn't realize she was against them. Or it could be something entirely unrelated to that. There was only one way to find out.

"Really? What kind of bad zing?" he asked, "And do you have a name?"

Hana nodded. "After a fashion," she admitted. Though her actions upon finding her depended entirely on Arashi's actions. She'd learned that her sister had not returned to their gang, which was unsurprising. After her cover being blown, it would be foolish to return to the house, but Hana had learned some intel there and had collected what little evidence they'd gathered on the Apostate and gang activities in the area. She sent the group after Polunu, fully aware that he would tell his side of the story if they found him, and she hoped she'd sown enough seeds of doubt among the group by accusing Keilani of tipping off the police. He had in turn accused Polunu and that had started the fight in which she'd had to establish her dominance. The group was not stupid, despite being uneducated, but that didn't mean they always had the luxury of thinking for themselves.

Her next stop was to check on the Apostate contacts they'd made and see if Arashi had made an appearance. They were dangerous criminals and she didn't think it was in Vlad's best interest to go with her. On the other hand, he had seen quite a bit more than he should have of the operation and he had her notes in his possession. Any move from now involving him was a calculated risk.

---

Liko continued to regard him suspicious. "Who ask?"

"Zen I guess I will go wiz you," Vlad replied, though it was easy to tell that he wasn't happy about it, "My brozer will probably be trying to find her too."

------

"Ze man Polunu owes his life to," Andrei said simply.

Hana hadn't considered that. "Why wouldn't he just go to the police? I'm sure he could have straightened out the situation with the shooting. It would be much easier to find out with their assistance." Though I imagine a few would request an additional reward, she thought.

---

Liko shook his head. "Not mean I trust," he replied.

"He probably would, but zat does not mean he would not look himself," Vlad said, "Oh! And he also may have helped ze man your sister hurt. At least I do not zink my brozer would have just left him zere." Despite what he was saying out loud, Vlad wasn't entirely certain that Andrei wouldn't have ignored the man in favour of getting to him. And it troubled Vlad that he wasn't sure which possibility he preferred; if Andrei ignored the man then this entire situation might be over quicker, but it had seemed like Arashi had really injured him.

------

Andrei narrowed his eyes at the man, though he wasn't really surprised. He was a foreigner and an outsider, he couldn't just expect this man to come out and tell him what was going on. So Andrei thought for a moment, before taking a gamble, "Does ze situation have anyzing to do wiz one of your little group betraying you?"
