Feoras is a land of great beauty and great sorrow. In ancient times, the isolated island was its own world, warring, celebrating, and living by its own rules. Its first contact with the outside world was violent, but it resulted in the assimilation of the invader culture into its own. However, this would not be the trend and the next encounter ended with Feoras being the assimilated party. For centuries, it was subjugated by Demonessian masters until the modern age brought with it change: enormous destruction, followed by brief freedom and then patronizing stewardship.

The island suffered from poverty, but there was still beauty to be found. While its five remaining ethnicities live in an enforced peace, the tourist areas benefit from the economic boon and generate a false sense of wealth. Tourists are attracted by Mauna Inaka, the volcanic center of the island, and the black sand beaches she generated. The gentle slope of the continental shelf allows swimmers to wade into a seemingly endless sea and walk up to boats parked in the shallows. Its coral reefs are untouched in certain parts of the island and the fauna found there are unmatched.

With the economy centered around the tourism trade, it is hard to leave the main areas. However, the adventurous tourist may find other ways to pass the time. The Genfiotes in the south control the tourism areas, making sure they are clean and presentable, as do their neighbors in Ahi'iana. The Genfiotes, however, present a curiosity: their religious leaders, known as the Undying. These leaders dress entirely in grey and cover their faces with a mask and veil. When they speak, they speak as if they are not an individual; they speak as if they are from a collective consciousness, which can be unnerving for some. In Fuwoku, one can find the farmers, who toil away in the dirt and respect animals as much as humans. For the adventurous, there is Kain, a land of warriors where the leader is determined through battle prowess. While Mpali represents the industrialized portion of the island, Isis certainly fairs the best as the seat of the former colonial masters.

Humanitarians may seek to provide relief from poverty and criminals may find a new foothold, but tourists, explorers, and travelers may find adventure.

"Such as?" Hana asked absently.

---

The man screamed as his elbow broke, which immediately caught the attention of his two friends. Liko took the opportunity to run as they turned to focus on Andrei. The lead man dropped his knife in favor of cradling his useless arm and shouted direction to his friends. The third one still hesitated, either because he didn't really want to fight or because he didn't know how to fight with a partner, while the second one just dived in and slashed at Andrei.

Vlad shrugged, "I do not know, really. He may have ended up looking for your sister, and I can only imagine what could have happened if he did."

------

Andrei cursed in Cetatsenian when he saw Liko bolt, though he wasn't sure if the man had planned this or just seen the opportunity and took it. Either way, he had to catch him before he got away. Andrei was certain he could outrun the man, that wasn't the problem. The problem was the thug in his way; Andrei managed to duck under the swing and swung his fist as hard as he could into the man's crotch. It wasn't exactly playing fair, but Andrei had more important things to deal with.

"I don't think he found her, but I doubt an encounter would end well."

---

The second man went down without much of a fight and the third was in shock. Numbers usually gave them an advantage. However, he decided Andrei was lucky and that it was his turn. He tried to stab Andrei from behind.

Meanwhile, Liko sprinted through the crowd.

"For eizer of zem," Vlad said, "I did mention my brozer was special forces, right? Well it was not nepotism zat got him ze position like some zink; he deserves it."

------

Unfortunately for Andrei, he was so focused on chasing down Liko that he didn't notice the third man make he was close. Too close. While Andrei managed to twist mostly out of the way, the knife still left a long gash on the side of his back. Knowing that he couldn't just ignore the man, he turned around and swung a fist at the man's face.

Hana nodded. "I remember you mentioning it." While Hana had training, she usually did better at distance encounters rather than hand to hand; she just didn't have the reflexes or strength her sister had. Arashi, however, had technique and experience and while she didn't know Andrei's training she would have bet on her sister.

At least thinking of the imaginary fight distracted her from her previous line of thinking, which was what would happen to her sister. NDAISE wouldn't overlook her going off the reservation again. They would hunt her down and, if she was lucky, apprehend her. If not, she'd be a disavowed asset with a low survival rate; she hoped it wouldn't be the latter as, aside from sisterly ties, it also put Hana's life in danger.

---

The third man dodged his fist and made another swipe with his knife as his fallen friends cheered him on.

Vlad sighed at Hana's short answer, finally realizing that she probably wasn't going to have a conversation with him. So he simply followed her lead for a time, silently looking around at the scenery and thinking about the events that had transpired. He was honestly surprised that he hadn't been more scared while it was happening, but after Arashi, Hana made it seem like he wasn't kidnapped. And she had given him a choice of whether to follow him or not.

Then he looked over at Hana, trying once more to start a conversation. "I do not suppose you can tell me who you actually are, can you?" he asked, not honestly expecting her to answer truthfully, "I mean, I zink you know fully well who I am. But I am not even certain of your real name."

------

Unfortunately for the thug, this time Andrei could see him coming from the start. He dodged out of the way of the swing, ignoring the stinging of the cut on his back. Then, before the thug had the chance to attack again he charged forward in an attempt to tackle the man to the ground.

Vlad's sincerity and naive question brought a smile to Hana's lips and she laughed. "No. That would defeat the purpose of being undercover, ne?" she asked in a more playful tone. "Though I suppose it is a fair question and you've been a very good sport, so you can ask me a few questions about myself as long as it's not things like my name or where I'm from or things like that."

---

The third man saw Andrei's move, but his reactions were too slow. He managed to move slightly out of the way so he didn't take the full force of the tackle, yet their contact point was probably more painful than if he had taken the hit, and he went down anyway. His first instinct was to grab onto the nearest object to prevent his fall.

"Zat is fair enough. Honestly I did not even expect zat," Vlad said with a chuckle, "But I cannot ask where you are from? Not even what country?"

------

Andrei had tackled the thug with his entire body, and so when he went down Andrei went down with him. The fall was made all the more painful for the thug by Andrei coming down on top of him, but that was what Andrei had planned. Moving quickly Andrei straddled the man's chest and grabbed the arm that held his knife, so that Andrei wouldn't up getting stabbed while he performed his next action. Which was to punch the downed man several times in his face.

Hana shook her head. "I showed you my passport, but knowing where I'm from will provide a starting point for police, who will undoubtedly look for me and my sister."

---

The third man might have struggled, but there was little he could actually accomplish while being pinned and he took the full force of the punches. The second man started to recover and he thought better of the situation and ran, leaving the other two behind. The lead man hesitated, but he too decided to retreat and head to the nearest care house that he had access to.

Vlad gave Hana an odd look, tilting his head in thought. "You know, you just told me zat you are not actually a member of ze police," he said, "Even if I had already assumed as much."

------

With a final solid punch to the man's face, Andrei stood up and walked a few steps away. He looked around, but he didn't see any sight of Liko. It was a pity he'd probably never see the man again, or he'd have made the man pay for running off like that. But now he had no leads on the woman who kidnapped his brother. He cursed to himself in Cetatsenian, before looking at the man down on the ground.

"Do you speak English?" he asked.
