Feoras is a land of great beauty and great sorrow. In ancient times, the isolated island was its own world, warring, celebrating, and living by its own rules. Its first contact with the outside world was violent, but it resulted in the assimilation of the invader culture into its own. However, this would not be the trend and the next encounter ended with Feoras being the assimilated party. For centuries, it was subjugated by Demonessian masters until the modern age brought with it change: enormous destruction, followed by brief freedom and then patronizing stewardship. The island suffered from poverty, but there was still beauty to be found. While its five remaining ethnicities live in an enforced peace, the tourist areas benefit from the economic boon and generate a false sense of wealth. Tourists are attracted by Mauna Inaka, the volcanic center of the island, and the black sand beaches she generated. The gentle slope of the continental shelf allows swimmers to wade into a seemingly endless sea and walk up to boats parked in the shallows. Its coral reefs are untouched in certain parts of the island and the fauna found there are unmatched. With the economy centered around the tourism trade, it is hard to leave the main areas. However, the adventurous tourist may find other ways to pass the time. The Genfiotes in the south control the tourism areas, making sure they are clean and presentable, as do their neighbors in Ahi'iana. The Genfiotes, however, present a curiosity: their religious leaders, known as the Undying. These leaders dress entirely in grey and cover their faces with a mask and veil. When they speak, they speak as if they are not an individual; they speak as if they are from a collective consciousness, which can be unnerving for some. In Fuwoku, one can find the farmers, who toil away in the dirt and respect animals as much as humans. For the adventurous, there is Kain, a land of warriors where the leader is determined through battle prowess. While Mpali represents the industrialized portion of the island, Isis certainly fairs the best as the seat of the former colonial masters. Humanitarians may seek to provide relief from poverty and criminals may find a new foothold, but tourists, explorers, and travelers may find adventure. |

Hana thought for a moment. "The same reason, I suppose. I never really figured out why. I think it's because I had an easier time learning in school than she did, so she thought in order to 'compete' with me she had to be more serious about her studies and that transferred to other things." --- Hekekia frowned and hesitated before replying. "There really is no right answer," he said finally. "The man might have died without your help. Could you live with that?" |

"Huh. Well I do not have the slightest clue why he is more serious zan me," Andrei said, then stopped to think for a moment, "But perhaps being in ze military has somezing to do wiz it. He has always loved our country and wanted to serve it, but he was adamant on getting in on merit and not birz." ------ "Of course," Andrei answered almost immediately, "If my brozer ends up injured or worse because I waited, zen I would have gladly left zat man to die." |

"I can see that," Hana replied. She decided expounding further on the point would give away too much of her background. As a NDAISE agent, she had received specialized training on par with some special forces as her role was insertion rather than merely observation. The program was certainly merit-based and the sisters had needed to assist one another through it. Part of the training stripped away family connections to replace them with the "family" of country and to eradicate any nepotism that may occur. She wondered if Andrei would have appreciated that as no one, save for visual recognition, would have known who he actually was. "Do you often vacation with your brother?" she asked, changing the subject. --- Hekekia shook his head because he didn't see a point in continuing that line of conversation; it wouldn't calm Andrei and they didn't need to get into a debate. "It's been less than twenty-four hours. He still has a good chance and, as you said, she took him in order to cover her escape. She could have just killed all three of you when she-" Yamamoto put away her phone as she re-entered the room. "We're set up in your hotel room," she said. "They're monitoring in case the kidnapper calls, but it doesn't appear that xe has tried to make contact since the incident. We'll charge your phone in the car and try to make contact with your brother through it." She gestured. "After you, Your Grace." She led them back through the station, leaving behind Hekekia who would head up his own investigation to support the IBI. She was also told to expect contact from NDAISE shortly, though she still had no idea what they would do because the incident had already happened, and she would be informed of any elements that may have perpetrated the act. Ryen Shiradhi's infrastructure did not support an efficient public transit system and while several were in place, buses and automobiles were widely utilized. Yamamoto's car was small yet decent and continued the overall impression of wealth the Demonessian displayed in contrast to the Feorasans. She took Andrei's phone and plugged it into the charger before starting into traffic. It was quite congested despite the best efforts of the city because of the winding and dog-legged streets, but Andrei discovered he had been within a few miles of the hotel. When they arrived, his hotel was swarming with law enforcement that were setting up equipment. She briefly spoke with the officer in charge, relieving him, and then told Andrei they were ready for him to try calling. |

"No, not too often. I tend to have more free time zan my oxer siblings. Zough my cousin does not mind putting off her work as Knezinja for a little relaxation," Vlad said with a grin, "But she was busy too, and my brozer was free. I figured a vacation would do him good." ------ Hekekia's words did little to reassure Andrei, and he wanted to say that if she'd tried to kill them then and there she wouldn't snapped her back like a twig. Though Andrei knew that in truth he probably would've ended up shot for his trouble. But he didn't get any chance to voice any of these thoughts thanks to the reappearance of Yamamoto. Andrei cursed under his breath when she revealed that the woman hadn't tried contacting the hotel. Then he left with Yamamoto, pausing to thank Hekekia before he left. Once they were in the car, Andrei spent the ride in total silence. He didn't want to talk to Yamamoto, or anyone, right now unless it involved getting his brother back. So, once again, he was left to stew in his thoughts. He should've just tried to get back as soon as he'd gotten out of the doctor's house. But no, he'd tried to find the woman on his own for all the good it eventually did him. He didn't say anything as they arrived either, simply unplugging his phone and following Yamamoto. When they told him they were ready to call, he just nodded and put the number into his phone. And it proceeded to go straight to Vlad's voicemail. Andrei pulled the phone away from his ears and just stared at it for a moment before ending the call and trying again. And again. Each time it was the same; Vlad's phone just went to his voicemail. "La naiba," Andrei said angrily, before looking up at the officers, "It is just going straight to voicemail." |

"Feoras is normally a good choice for vacation. I would check out the beaches if you haven't had the opportunity yet." --- Yamamoto scowled. It probably meant the phone was off, which meant they couldn't try to triangulate its position off the cell towers. She asked for Vlad's number and passed it to the tech, who would try to see if it had been used in the area during the kidnapping. Then she went into the other room to check with the SDF to see if they'd found anything. After about half an hour, she was told they'd found Polunu at a Coalition house. It was thankfully not a bloody conflict, but there would likely be retribution later on; the gangs believed themselves to be at war with the SDF and exacerbated the situation between the government and the people. Polunu was still passed out, but he would be properly treated and revived, after which point he would be questioned. She tried to reason with her SDF contact and was told that they simply could not speed up the filtering of the alcohol from his system. "They've found Polunu," she told Andrei. "He's still unconsciously and he's being treated, but as soon as he awakes we are going to question him." |

"We went zere not long after we arrived. Zey are a beatiful zing," Vlad said with a smile, "A pity I will not be able to see more of it. At least until I visit again. But who knows how zat will be." ------ Andrei spent most of the time pacing back and forth, thinking and worrying, though those unfamiliar with him would simply see a grim and serious expression. When Yamamoto told him about Polunu he nodded, "Zat is good. I hope he will have some idea where she might be." However, he didn't expect Polunu to actually be of much at all. Then a small smile came on his face, "I did tell him I would get him arrested after he was treated. A pity he is still unconscious and did not get a chance to zink he got away." |

Hana chuckled. "Possibly never." The trees were becoming less dense and they could hear the sounds of crowds on the beach. Some of them were gawking at the column of smoke behind them and as she heard helicopters she believed emergency services had finally responded. She paused, glancing through the trees to make certain it was the tourist-friendly beach she believed it to be, and then turned to Vlad. "This is where I leave you," she said and offered her hand. --- "It is good," Yamamoto replied. "His mug shot has been floating around recently. Apparently, he's part of a new gang that's trying to move in the area. They were involved in a conflict at the docks last night with the Apostates, though we are uncertain who was actually there an involved. I suspect this woman was part of that gang and we're following that lead now. They're a small group, but they've all evaporated this morning, save for Polunu." |

"Well, it has been a pleasure," Vlad said, taking Hana's outstretched hand, "Aside from ze whole kidnapping deal." He looked over at the beach; it looked positively normal compared to what he'd been through tonight. It was only a single night, it had felt much longer than it probably was. "I do not suppose you know where ze nearest police station is, do you?" he asked, smiling. ------ "Ze Apostates? Zat is a terrorist group, right?" Andrei asked, surprised that the small-time thug would be connected to a group that'd get into confrontations with a legitimate terrorist organization. Then he continued on, "I zink I remember seeing a commotion off in ze distance last night, but I did not pay too much attention. But I do zink ze woman was part of ze gang, or at least pretended to be. Polunu seemed angry at some sort of betrayal on her part, I zink." |

Hana shook her head. "Regretfully, I do not. There are usually several substations around to cater to minor tourist complaints. They're well-marked so you could be able to find one easily," she replied. Then she smiled at him before taking a different direction that ran parallel to the beach and disappeared into the foliage. --- Yamamoto nodded to confirm his assertion that the Apostates were a terrorist group. "Unfortunately, the woman you described is not yet known to us, but I'm getting a sketch artist down here in order to get a better description of her," she replied. "Fhawan is unfortunately not a match for anything in the database. It's a common Kainic name, but that's as far as we can get without a family name of some kind." |

Vlad smiled back at her as she left, before making his way along the beach. He briefly thought about asking someone where to find a station, but Hana said it'd be easy to find one so he instead wandered around and tried to find one. While he did so, his mind went over the previous night and when he thought about it he was surprised that he was so calm. But then again, the way Hana had treated him probably had something to do with that; he'd be in much worse shape had he instead been dragged around by her sister all night. Eventually after some wandering, he managed to find one of the substations that Hana had mentioned. He stepped inside, and then stopped. He had absolutely no idea what he was supposed to say. Was he supposed to just tell them that he'd been kidnapped and that they wanted him to deliver this bag to them? ------ "Polunu would probably know more about her. Even if most of it is probably fake. But I assume he would know better zan me what she looked like," Andrei said, and then looked down and sighed, "I hope she is not an Apostate. Zat would not bode well at all..." |
