Feoras is a land of great beauty and great sorrow. In ancient times, the isolated island was its own world, warring, celebrating, and living by its own rules. Its first contact with the outside world was violent, but it resulted in the assimilation of the invader culture into its own. However, this would not be the trend and the next encounter ended with Feoras being the assimilated party. For centuries, it was subjugated by Demonessian masters until the modern age brought with it change: enormous destruction, followed by brief freedom and then patronizing stewardship.

The island suffered from poverty, but there was still beauty to be found. While its five remaining ethnicities live in an enforced peace, the tourist areas benefit from the economic boon and generate a false sense of wealth. Tourists are attracted by Mauna Inaka, the volcanic center of the island, and the black sand beaches she generated. The gentle slope of the continental shelf allows swimmers to wade into a seemingly endless sea and walk up to boats parked in the shallows. Its coral reefs are untouched in certain parts of the island and the fauna found there are unmatched.

With the economy centered around the tourism trade, it is hard to leave the main areas. However, the adventurous tourist may find other ways to pass the time. The Genfiotes in the south control the tourism areas, making sure they are clean and presentable, as do their neighbors in Ahi'iana. The Genfiotes, however, present a curiosity: their religious leaders, known as the Undying. These leaders dress entirely in grey and cover their faces with a mask and veil. When they speak, they speak as if they are not an individual; they speak as if they are from a collective consciousness, which can be unnerving for some. In Fuwoku, one can find the farmers, who toil away in the dirt and respect animals as much as humans. For the adventurous, there is Kain, a land of warriors where the leader is determined through battle prowess. While Mpali represents the industrialized portion of the island, Isis certainly fairs the best as the seat of the former colonial masters.

Humanitarians may seek to provide relief from poverty and criminals may find a new foothold, but tourists, explorers, and travelers may find adventure.

"Cold is not exactly a foreign concept. In very cold winters, we may actually get some snowfall on Mauna Inaka or the highlands, but it is very little and usually doesn't accumulate. So ice is a stranger to us, as was refrigeration. We had cold storage, but it only lasted for a few days. The waters here may be quite cold if know where to look." Kakia smiled.

"True, but a light snowfall in a few regions zat does not accumulate is different zan having a country zat can be completely covered in snow during ze winter," Andrei said, "Anyway, I assume you used salt to preserve food before, am I right?"

Kakia nodded. "I'm not well versed in the methods, but I believe so. There was also smoking and drying techniques, but most food was caught or picked daily. The island's population was small and Inaka provided." She smirked. "Have you seen the local wildlife? It is much larger than what you see on the mainland. When my ancestors slaughtered one of them, it would feed the village."

"Ah, it is much easier to provide for a less people," Andrei said, "And no, we have not seen much of ze wildlife; we did just arrive on ze island."

"Zough I know what I am doing tomorrow," Vlad added with a grin, "How big are we talking about? And what kind of animals do you usually see?"

"Ano... It depends on the animal, but we had birds that were as tall as a man and mice that were this big," she said, indicating at least a food. "Some of them remain, though the majority of the beasts were killed by chitaels over the years."

"Hah, zat is not very big for a rodent. In Cetatsenia we have rats ze size of small dogs," Vlad said, laughing; then his grin fell as he continued, "It is sad what happened to zem zough, having a species nearly destroyed is rarely a happy zing."

"I assume zat ze chitaels are an imported species?" Andrei said, "Brought by ze Demonessians?"

Kakia nodded. "Yes, to use in war. Many native animals went extinct," she replied. "There is more of an effort now to preserve species, but those cats are still allowed to roam freely." She shook her head. "Useful or no, they have altered the local wildlife."

"Zat is definitely a sad story, but unfortunately not an uncommon one," Vlad said, then looked up and smiled, "But on ze bright side zere is an effort to preserve ze ones zat are left, right?"

"Not everywhere even has zat," Andrei added.

Kakia shrugged; she didn't think it was through the Demonessians' generosity but rather through the Undying's intervention. They had a softer hand and quite a bit of influence, both with their people and the Demonessians. "That is what zoos are for, I suppose," she added.

At that moment the food arrived. Vlad's fish arrived, poached and covered with a sweet sauce and local fruits. Kakia's lū'au arrived on taro leaves, sliced, and covered in a sauce derived from coconut milk. Andrei's saimin had noodles, as promised, but he would probably be unable to identify most of the ingredients without prior knowledge of Demonessian or Feorasi ingredients. Its broth was thin and in addition to local vegetables it appeared to have sliced and breaded fish.

Both of the Cetatsens were happy to finally have their food in front of them, with Vlad grinning as usual and even Andrei having a slight smile on his face. Vlad inhaled deeply and theatrically, before laughing and saying, "Zis smells absolutely wonderful, I cannot wait to try it."

"Zat may be an issue," Andrei said, holding up his chopsticks, "I probably should not have ordered noodles."

Vlad also picked up his pair of chopsticks, dropping one of them onto the table in an attempt to hold them correctly. "Well, if it comes down to it I can just stab my fish. But you may have to use your hands," Vlad joked, not bothered in the slightest by his inability to use the chopsticks.
