Deshi MathĂșna quietly handed his passport to the agent and patiently but tiredly answered any questions the agent had. He had nothing to declare Deshi showed him his tourist visa, his passport, and for good measure, his credentials as a Demonessian policeman.

Deshi was of average height and build, though he was often underestimated by perpetrators because his muscular build remained slight no matter how much he worked out. In recent months, however, he'd begun to lose weight as worry began to eat away at his appetite. The blond policeman came to Pelhafor for one reason, to find his girlfriend Minka Zakhari, who disappeared there several months ago while on vacation. He didn't know why she'd gone - sometimes despite how long they'd known each other she acted like she didn't quite trust him and he'd learned to let it go - but she was studying to be a lawyer and he had at first assumed it was to interview for some sort of internship. Unfortunately, the day of her arrival back in Demoness had come and gone and he'd received no sign from her. He inquired with the governments involved, both his and Pelhafor, but they had been relatively unhelpful and he had a feeling he wouldn't receive the answers he sought. Instead, he decided to take a leave of absence and investigate for himself.

He looked down at the paper in his hand. He'd managed to get a hold of the hotel in which she'd registered, but he couldn't get the desk clerk to even confirm if she'd checked in. It was a thin lead, but it was all he had and he headed toward the address.

OOC: I purposely left the city unknown to facilitate your description. Feel free to put Deshi in whatever city works and describe it.

EDIT: Took out references to his firearm.

Deshi shrugged. "Please, have a seat," he said politely. "I wouldn't want to deny you dinner." He chuckled. "Looks like I chose the wrong night to come. They're pretty busy."

"They usually are at this time." His English was near-perfect; only a trace of the Pelhaforan accent betrayed his origins. The man took a seat and glanced at the Pelhaforan menu before raising a hand. From English he switched to Central Pelhaforan, speaking a few words of Central to the waitress, as if giving delicate instructions. The waitress hurried with his order, and he turned back to the stranger. "My name's Toitu. I've been here a few times before, and it's a pretty good place. Very genuine Karishin cuisine, I can tell you that." He sipped his tea. "Forgive me for thinking this, but you seem slightly out of town," he spoke casually, jokingly gesturing to Deshi's blond hair.

Deshi smiled easily. "Good call," he replied. "Yes, I'm here on vacation, so to speak. My girlfriend wants to move here, but I thought I'd see it on my own. You know how girls can be: show you the best parts and make you decide with only that information. I just want to see what it's really like before I come here with her."

Toitu laughed. "Move here? If I were a tour guide, I'd tell you that yes, Pelhafor is a paradise upon which the woes of the world have long been dealt with." The waitress returned with a soda can. Toitu took a napkin from the dispenser and meticulously wiped the top of the can clean before opening it. "Well, if you happen to like it here, your gain, I suppose. Not many foreigners immigrate here aside for businessmen. Historically, the population flow has been outward."

Deshi frowned. "Why is that? I would think that if businessmen moved here it'd be good for everyone. You know, that line about what's good for business and the economy is good for everyone."

"Well..." Manrara Toitu seemed to hesitate. "Well, historically people have dissatisfied with the Empire... as it was not as prosperous as it is now. And people have wanted to start their lives somewhere else. The diaspora."

"What sort of things were they dissatisfied with?" Deshi asked. Then, in order to try to coax more cooperation, he added, "I'm sure some of them must have come back. The businessmen can't all be foreigners." He smiled.
