If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. "Octavian is, how should I say it," Gavril said, "Not really used to ozer beliefs. He accepts zem, but he sometimes finds it difficult to believe zat some of the more, uh, different beliefs are actually believed." "He'd probably stare slack-jawed and confused for quite a while" Gavrila added, making the described face. "Do not get us wrong," Gavril said, "He is very understanding of other religions, but somezing like zat would most likely take him by surprise. And he can be worse at hiding his reactions zan my dear cousin here sometimes." "Again, I am extremely sorry," Gavrila said averting her eyes from everyone and instead staring at her shoes; she didn't quite believe the Empress when she said it was all right, "I, uh, I guess I do need to zink before I act sometimes." She may have only recently met Jia Li, but Gavrila still liked her. She felt genuinely bad about what had just happened, especially since it was obvious that it had embarrassed Jia Li. |

Jia Li again smiled softly, trying to reassure Gavrila. "It's okay. It means you are human. People tend to act differently around me, so it is good to have a reminder," she said. She glanced at her husband. She could tell his anger hadn't yet subsided, but the physical expression had been suppressed and he was again stoic. He was not as quick to forgive as she either, but he had reason to hold grudges as well. He caught her eye and feeling a bit guilty, patted the hand on his arm with hers. |

"I just don't want you all to zink I am a bitch," Gavrila said, looking up, "Actually no. I do not care if you zink I am a bitch; I just do not want it to be because of a misunderstanding." Gavril just shook his head; it was typical of his cousin to say something like that. But the sooner they got off this topic, the better in Gavril's opinion. "All right, so shall we all continue on our way to the Great Hall now?" he asked, hoping to move on. |

"Yes," Jia Li replied, grateful for the change in topic. She didn't begrudge Gavrila for expressing her opinion, especially when her closest friends were just as outspoken, but they didn't tend to accidentally embarrass her either. |

"Zen let us get going," Gavril said, starting to make his way towards the Great Hall once more. "Uh, da. Let us go," Gavrila said, following after her cousin. She gave a small and apologetic smile to Jia Li once more. And since the Great Hall was fairly close by, they arrived not long afterwards. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how one looked at it, Gavrila seemed to be more or less back to normal. She glanced over to the empty pair of thrones, and elbowed Gavril playfully in his side. "So, when are you gonna find a nice girl to sit in ze silver zrone Gavril?" she asked, "Or man possibly, but I don't zink you play for zat team." "Zen you'd be right," Gavril said, going along with his cousin's good-natured joking, he was glad to has gotten through that awful situation without too much harm being done, "And I'm still looking for ze right one." Gavrila grinned, "Eh, take your time. It's not that important." Gavril shook his head and then turned to the Demonessians, "So, which end did you wish to start at?" He gestured to their right, "Ze first Voivodes are over zere," then he gestured to the left, "And ze most recent ones, starting wiz yours truly, or over zere." |

Jia Li looked between the two sides, her finger on her lip, before deciding. "I think we should start with the first ones. It's important to know where one comes from, so to speak, so it'd be good to get a better understanding of the leaders who shaped your nation." |

Gavril nodded and made his way over to the very first of the paintings, and it was obvious who it was. After all, all assembled had seen the statue of him outside, and it was him that adorned the center of the great stained glass windows above the group. Rendered in paint was Ioan I, a serious face framed by his long locks of hair and great beard. "Ze portraits of ze earlier Voivodes were done far after zey zemselves lived. Zeir appearance was painted as best as was possible using paintings of zem done in zeir own time as well as descriptions of ze person," Gavril said, "Having portraits of past Voivodes in ze Great Hall arose only a few hundred years ago, and zey had painters create zese portraits so zat ze portraits would all match and be done in ze same realistic style." Then the Voivode gestured to the next painting, that of a woman. She had long black hair like Ioan I, but unlike the painting of him, in which he had a stern and serious expression, the woman in the painting had an expression that could only be described as a manic grin. In fact, she looked like she would be a rather scary person to meet in real life, which wasn't helped by a long and jagged scar along the side of her face. "Zat is Voivode Daciana, she was Ioan I's first and only daughter," Gavrila explained. "And she was a bloodzirsty căţea," Gavrila added, "Taught by her mozer herself." |

Jia Li tilted her head curiously. "When did she rule?" She was aware that female leaders had difficulties in other countries, especially earlier in the world, and she wondered if Daciana was a pioneer or if Cetatsenia was exceptionally accepting. |

"She was ze second ruler in Cetatsenia's history, and as we look around, you'll probably notice zat around half of ze Voivodes were women," Gavril said, "Our succession has always been gender-blind, as it were. Zough one could hardly have called women equal to men in Cetatsenia's early history, zey were far better off zen in some parts of ze world." "Not zat it would have mattered eizer way in Daciana's case," Gavrila added, "Her eldest brozer tried to claim zat he was ze rightful heir, and she challenged him to a duel. Long story short, she ended up ripping his zroat out wiz her teez." Her last sentence was punctuated by her her making a biting motion several times, after which she grinned. Gavril sighed and shook his head. "Zat is just an embellished story," he explained to Jia Li, "She did challenge her brozer to a duel, and she did win. But most historians agree zat it was ended wiz her sword, and not her teez." |

Jia Li shook her head, remembering her duel with her sister. She had made a mistake - they both had - and it seemed that the only way to stop the Civil War with no further bloodshed was to settle it between themselves rather than on the battlefield. They hadn't weapons because this wasn't to be to the death, but she had been at a disadvantage due to Hikari's superior physicality. Despite fighting her best, Hikari gained the upper hand and might have choked out Jia Li if not for the intercession of an assassin. Jia Li shuddered at the memory and sadly replied, "It is too bad it came down to a fight. He should have accepted her right and submitted instead of letting his blood be spilled." |
