If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. Gavrila nodded, "Yeah, and I zink ze only reason zey let me see him was because I was ze Knezinja's daughter and I was taken zere by my Aunt. Zey really did not want me to see him, because ze poor guy was really aggressive. I do not know why, but for some reason he was as docile as a little baby for me." "He is still aggressive you know," Andreea said, "Time has not changed zat." Gavrila waved that off, "Oh, he has gotten a hell of a lot better about zat. Especially now zat all my ozer rats know not to mess wiz him. Maybe you do not remember, but he used to be much worse around people." |

"It's still a bit dangerous though if you have to teach your other rats not to mess with him, ne? How is he with other people?" |

"He tends to avoid other people, but if you insist on trying to pet him or pick him or somezing you will end up getting bitten," Gavrila said with a shrug, "My cousin is really overreacting. In ze years since I have had him he has really mellowed out. Now he stays out of everyone's way and does not want to be bozered; wiz ze exception of me. He still loves his Mommy." "Last time I was visiting he bit my leg," Andreea replied, honestly slightly irritated, "And it was not my fault." "I never said it was your fault, Andreea," Gavrila said, starting to get irritated as well, "And it was not even zat bad of a bite." |

Jia Li frowned and decided that a change in topic might be a better idea. "Did you tell me how long rats live? It sounds like you've had him for a long time." |

"I zink zey live like somewhere between 5-10 years," Gavrila said, "And I have had Corsar for about 8 or 9, and he was probably about a year old when I got him. So ze little guy is really old." "Behemoz and Leviazan are actually pretty young," Gavril added, "We have had zem about 2 and a half years. How long do Chitaels usually live? I do not zink I ever asked." |

Jia Li's brow furrowed as she thought. "It's a wide span. I've had the girls since I was sixteen, so they're getting up there in age. I think the oldest they get is something like twenty years," she replied. Xel shook his head. "You were younger than that. It was right after Ned arrived," he said and she shrugged. They had been her constant companions for a very long time and she only recalled them leaving her side when Nemesis had kittens; of the two, she was the alpha female and her sister would help her care for her litters. |

"Damn, zat is a long time," Gavrila said, whistling, "It is always good to have pets zat live a long time. I mean, yeah you can build up a relationship wiz an animal in only a year or two. But it is a hell of a lot different wiz somezing zat can live to be a decade." "Yeah, Behemoz and Leviazan are probably going to live anozer 6 years," Gavril said, "And I really do not look forward to having one of zem die. Besides me and my family, zeir brozer is probably going to take it hard." "It is not unheard of for a great rat to die when anozer it has lived wiz for a long time dies because zey get sort of, well, depressed, and refuse to eat or drink," Andreea added, "Rare, but not unheard of." |

Jia Li nodded. "It makes sense. Animals grieve as well and it would be a shame," she replied. "But we shouldn't dwell on it. My girls have had kittens and I'm sure I could convince one of their offspring to join me if I got really lonely, but I think that would be a disservice to them." She frowned. "Actually, I kinda miss them now. I would like to take them when I travel, but most countries really don't know how to accommodate them." |

Gavril nodded and smiled, glad to leave the sad topic behind, "I can imagine why zat would be so. After all, most nations do not keep big cats around." "And here you would have ze great rats to zink about," Andreea added. "Ha, I would pay to see a chitael and a great rat interacting for ze first time," Gavrila said, chuckling. |

Jia Li tilted her head. "Maybe not until I'd introduced them to proper behavior," she replied. "After all, they do look like prey." She shook her head. "And it is a bit difficult since chitaels are used to being able to range at night. Most people would report a wild animal and xe would get shot. I wouldn't let them out, of course, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't get their own ideas." |
