If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. "What, zey cannot tell ze difference between someone praying to Empress So-and-so I and Empress So-and-so II?" Gavrila asked. "Gavrila..." Andreea said, her tone making the word sound like a warning. She didn't want Gavrila offending the Demonessians again, and it seemed like religious topics were the most likely things to offend them. Andreea and Gavril would step carefully, but Gavrila never would. "What? I am just asking a damn question," Gavrila replied, glancing over at her cousin for a moment and rolling her eyes. |

Jia Li shrugged. "Do you have deities who are given the same name?" she retorted. The truth was that only a handful were ever prayed to, so the names really didn't matter so much. The most popular one had even changed her name during her reign and she was better known by her adopted name than by her official name. |

"I do not have any deities at all," Gavrila replied with a shrug, "And ze Aspects tend to have names zat mean what zey do anyway. Judecătorul is ze Aspect zat represents justice. His name literally means 'ze Judge'." Then Gavrila scrunched her eyebrows together in thought, "Sometimes I really zink Cetatsens have no fucking imagination." "Regardless, they have different names no matter who they are, even though I am fairly certain they know who is talking to them. It is tradition," she replied. It made sense to her, especially when eras were named for their Empresses, and it was really only after death that the Empresses were allowed individuality; as a living being, they were the embodiment of a goddess. |

Gavrila shruggedl; she was just curious and didn't particularly care one way or the other and responded with a simple, "Eh, I guess zat makes sense." However, while the conversation was going on, a look of thought had come over Gavril's face as a question formed in his head. However, he waited until he was certain Gavril was going to pursue the topic any farther. "Now I have a question as well. What exactly happens if ze eldest daughter of ze current Empress dies? Are zey just renamed?" he asked, "I mean, I know it is not common in modern times but it has surely happened in ze past." |

Jia Li shook her head. "Why would that occur?" she asked, momentarily confused. Then it dawned on her that he had assumed primogeniture for her throne. "Did we not discuss this before?" she asked. "The line of succession only passes through the eldest daughter and her heirs. If she does without one, she is reincarnated. The other children will never have a claim to the throne." |

At Jia Li's answer Gavril blinked a few times, before sighing and bringing his hand up to rub his temples. "Well I feel like an idiot now," he said, "I am sorry, I assumed 'eldest daughter' meant 'eldest living daughter'. I am not used to dealing wiz a culture zat believes in reincarnation and has ze zrone so closely tied to zeir religion." Gavrila's response to this was to just laugh, then look at Gavril before jokingly saying, "Dumbass." "You are in no position to talk," Andreea said, "I highly doubt you knew zat eizer." "I did not have to, I just happened to stop by on ze day of ze Empress's visit," Gavrila said with a grin; at which Andreea just rolled her eyes. |

Jia Li smiled as she shook her head. "It's alright. That assumption caused some issue when my sister made her claim to the throne as well," she replied. She tried very hard not to look sad as she mentioned Hikari, but she found at times that it was impossible to avoid the subject; this was one of those times. "In fact, our belief in reincarnation was actually the cause of our greatest change to religion," she continued. "A very long time ago, there was a mysterious fire that killed everyone on the Plateau, including the Imperial Family and religious leaders, and threw the country into chaos. Many made claim to be the reincarnation, but only one was able to prove who she was. She allied with Oriana Deirdre and they later claimed that the fire was a 'purge' of the, ano, lies that had accumulated over the years. That's why we have Orthodox and Renewed Morante now." It was a very abbreviated history and quite incomplete. For Demonessians, there had never really been any challenge to Oriana's candidate; she was the only one. For Fenwick, they adopted their allies' version of events, though they knew the true history. For others in the area, they knew of the War of the Dragons: each candidate had the backing of a powerful faction and, even after 'testing' of the candidates was completed, no one accepted the true Empress. Oriana was alone was able to seize control and force the other factions into submission, eventually executing the other claimants and their vocal supporters until hers was the only one who remained. Then she set about reshaping Morante into her own image and purged any documentation that told a different version of events. The damage had been severe, but Oriana had thankfully never been able to truly assert control and erase the original religion. Some holdouts, like the Morikubi, continued to resist her and their efforts allowed major portions of the older religion to be resurrected under Jia Li. |

"Ah, I see. But I still apologize nonezeless," Gavril replied, "Here in Cetatsenia we usually do our best to make sure zat we know how succession works in nations we are interacting wiz." "After all, zere is no better way to irritate a Cetatsen noble zan to assume zeir oldest kid is zeir heir," Gavrila said with a grin, "No, but seriously, it can really piss some off." |

"It's an understandable assumption, on all our parts," Jia Li replied, "but why would it upset them?" |
