If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people.

Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river.

Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets.

While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then.

The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city.

At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down.

"Huh, zat is interesting. Zough it still does not really explain much," Gavril said, and then shrugged, "But I suppose zat is just how it is. Not every tradition has a logical reason behind it. Well, one zat is remembered in modern times, anyway."

Jia Li smirked. "You could try to explain a tradition to me and why exactly it is," she teased. She shook her head and continued, "But we have to have faith that there was a reason for it. The Plateau is the central source of doctrine and there were power struggles over the years, so ideas probably infiltrated the religion." She shrugged. "And even though the religion is centralized, it's not like we had instant communication. My ancestors tried to visit the outer territories, but it didn't always occur with any regularity. Sometimes it was downright dangerous. Then there's the fire, so much of the 'central' library had to be reconstructed."

"Ha, well to be honest I already have; I told you why we have ze tradition of keeping razer large spiders in our homes," Gavril replied to the Empress with a grin, "And you do have a point about centralization. It can be a razer hard zing to achieve for civilization earlier in history; whezer it is a centralized government or religion."

Jia Li shrugged. "Without those original documents, we can never be sure why some beliefs are the way they are. I could always change them, as it is my right, but I have only changed the things I felt were necessary. Pondering the reason behind Du Isa being associated with water is more of a philosophical thing to me rather than doctrine."

"Zat is a fair point," Gavril said with a smile, "If zere is no reason to change somezing, zen why bozer to do it?"

"Not to mention ze fact zat people have a tendency to get really pissed off if you change traditions for no reason," Gavrila added, then grinned, "Hell, sometimes zey get pissed off even if you have a damn good reason."

Jia Li nodded. "I know that from personal experience. My 'good reasons' are not good enough," she lamented.

"Eh, some people are just măgari," Gavrila replied with a shrug, "You are ze Voivode, you can do what you damn please."

Given the earlier conversation regarding the Civil War, Jia Li did not particularly wish to continue it here, but she could not determine a good subject to which to segue. Fortunately, the Palatul Regal loomed large in the car's windows; they had arrived.

Both Gavril and Andreea smiled, while Gavrila grinned; all of them had know they were approaching the Palatul Regal. They traveled to the building enough that they knew the way there and had recognized the buildings along the way. The car stopped at the gate, with one of the guards checking who it was before they were able to pass and make their way up the hill to the palace proper.

Once more Aurel opened the door for the entire group and closed it behind them once they were all outside of the vehicle. Gavrila stretched out her limbs in a rather exaggerated fashion, sighing contentedly as she was finally able to stretch out her limbs again. Gavril shook his head and smiled as he lead the group inside and into the Great Hall. Before they even entered the great double doors they could smell the food coming from the Great Hall. The meal itself was far larger than breakfast had been, since lunch was the main meal of the day for Cetatsens. In addition to the Demonessian food that had been made for the Empress and her entourage there was a selection of soups and stews, several dishes of fish and poultry, and several small cakes.

Gavrila grinned as soon as she saw the food, and hurried towards the table to take her seat, but Gavril stopped her. "Gavrila, you know zat is impolite," he warned. In response his cousin merely rolled her eyes, but to her credit she didn't sit down; then the Voivode looked to Jia Li and gestured to the chairs, "Please, take your seats."

Jia Li nodded. Xel pulled the seat out for her, allowed her to sit, and then took a seat as well while Makoto took his place against the wall. Once she was settled in, he had faith that Marcus or another High Guardsman would come to relieve him so that he could eat. Failing that, Xel had temporarily "assumed" duties to allow him to leave her side. High Guards were allowed to leave the Empress' side for short sprints of time, but the rules of engagement changed when they were no longer in familiar territory, no matter how friendly they were with the Cetatsens. The Demonessians didn't even break this rule with the Fenwicki unless the person in question was a "sibling" that had been fostered.

Once seated, the imperial couple waited patiently for their hosts. Jia Li wondered what was in the native dishes, especially since the afternoon meal was also the main meal for Demonessians.
