If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. The Cetatsens quickly took their seats once Jia Li and Xel were seated, with Gavril taking his place at the head of the table and Gavrila being the first of them to sit, doing so almost immediately. The only one that remained standing was Lieutenant Dalca, who stood off to the side. And once more it was Marina who would be serving them, and she appeared off from the side and smiled. "Salut din nou," she said sweetly, "What do you all want to drink?" |

"Some tea, please," Jia Li asked. "Water," Xel responded with a nod. She smiled. "What do we have in store for us this time?" she asked enthusiastically. |

Marina nodded politely and smiled before turning to the Cetatsens. She didn't need to speak, all of them simply nodded their heads; she'd been with them long enough to know what they typically drank with lunch, so she only needed to check to make sure they didn't want something other than their usual. "It will only take a few moments," she said, nodding her head and making her way out of the Great Hall. "Well zere is quite a bit, as I am sure you can see," Gavril replied, smiling, "Well, you know better zan I do what ze Demonessian dishes are, but you also have-" "Plăcintă!" Gavrila interrupted, bringing her fork down on top of a square-shaped pastry and pulling two of them onto her plate. "Plăcintă are dessert foods," Andreea sighed. "I know zat, and it is not like zat was all I was going to eat," Gavrila said, rolling her eyes, "I am not a child." "You know sometimes I wonder," Gavril said playfully before returning his attention back to the Demonessians, "Well, zere is some saramură, which is fish; some ardei umpluţi, peppers stuffed wiz pork and rice; some stews, probably chicken or turkey; some meatballs. And, as my cousin already pointed out, zere is plăcintă." He pointed at each dish as he went, trying to give the Demonessians at least a brief overview of the types of food on the table. |

Jia Li smiled. She took small portions of each dish, really amounting to only a bite or two, because she wanted to try it all. Demonessian food was, for whatever reason, rather bland so she looked forward to trying something new. However, she was somewhat hesitant to eat the peppers: she knew peppers tended to be spicy and her sister-in-law had prepared a rather spicy sauce derived from serrano peppers; she hadn't enjoyed the harissa and was hesitant to try the experience again. Her husband was less experimental, trying a few dishes he assumed he would like, and primarily sticking to Demonessian food. He didn't want to be rude, but his childhood regimen had been designed toward nutrition rather than taste and so it had been bland even by Demonessian standards. "What's in the pastry?" Jia Li asked curiously. Being that it had been identified as a dessert, she would eat it last. |

The Cetatsens once more ate more than the Demonessians, though it was simply habit. They did try much of the Demonessian food, though while they did enjoy it most of them still preferred their native cuisine. Gavrila herself ate the most of anyone there even before she moved onto the dessert. As Jia Li asked her question, Gavrila took a bite of her plăcintă and grinned. "It is full of delicious, delicious cheese," she replied, quickly swallowing her bite, "Well, some of zem are." "Zere are also plăcintă filled wiz chocolate and apples," Gavril replied, taking a bite of his own, "Zough not in ze same pastry of course." |

Jia Li took Gavril's assessment of the taste at face value: there were no pastries in Demoness and she had never combined chocolate with apples. When it was time to move onto dessert, she gingerly tried the plăcintă; aside from the unfamiliarity with pastry, cheese was also not consumed widely in Demoness. Milk was not consumed after a child was weaned, save for a few recipes, and hardly ever in the form of cheeses or beverages. Consequently, the majority of the population had developed lactose intolerance over the generations, though the Cine Tribe was less susceptible to it than their Shuzoku kin. She smiled as she ate the melted cheese, though she slightly burnt the tip of her tongue as she didn't expect it to be quite so warm. "Interesting," she said. |

"Definitely," Gavrila replied, biting off an entire half of another plăcintă, "I may love chocolate, but ze plăcintă wiz cheese are my favourite. Zere is not a doubt about it." "Whatever you say Gavrila, I am certain you just love dessert in general," Gavril replied with a grin; he ran his eyes over the table of food before looking back at the Empress, "So, are zere any Demonessian desserts you would recommend?" |

"Well, there are burnt oranges," Jia Li replied. "It's not as bad as it sounds. It's more or less oranges and orange zest with caramelized sugar and alcohol. If I remember correctly, they're sort of marinated in alcohol and then, well, 'burnt' to burn off all the alcohol and caramelize the sugar." She turned to her husband; she never cooked and had no idea how, but he was not much better off. "I prefer plain, uncooked fruit, but there are several dishes that do at least heat them and burnt oranges is one of them." She smiled. "There is also coffee jelly, which is a sort of gelatin or pudding made from coffee. They use it as a filling in several different desserts. It's quite interesting when they use them to 'stuff' strawberries." |

At the mention of coffee, Gavrila's face scrunched up in disgust. "Ew, zat sounds horrible," she said, taking another bite of plăcintă, "I cannot stand coffee; it tasted nasty as all hell." "Oh it is not zat bad," Gavril replied, to which Gavrila made mock gagging noises; he shook his head as he turned back to Jia Li, "Zat does sound interesting zough. But I have to ask, how exactly does on stuff a strawberry?" "Waste of a good strawberry, if you ask me," Gavrila muttered as she finished off her plăcintă. |

Jia Li frowned. "They are hollow, especially the large ones," she replied. |
