If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. Gavril laughed a little at the Empress's question, "Yes, zere is a regent for underage rulers. And as you can imagine, zere were plenty of zem zroughout our history." "Generally one of ze ruler's elder siblings are chosen as regent," Andreea added. "Anyway, I suppose zat zey could have issues wiz respect due to zeir age," Gavril said, "But as ze youngest child zey were considered to be ze rightful heir." "If zere was an issue, it was usually because zey were a fucking incompetent," Gavrila said with a grin, "Not just because zey were young." |

Jia Li frowned. "When I took the throne, I had my work set out for me. I had the respect as the 'rightful' ruler of the country, but many people didn't want to follow my instructions because I didn't have experience as a ruler." She shook her head. "My whole education was dedicated to knowing how to make decisions, yet that didn't mean much to ministers that were supposed to be working with me." She sighed. "Then again, I think many of them got used to doing things their way. As much as I may love him, my father was not the best regent and allowed a lot of things to degenerate during his tenure. I was also young enough to be the granddaughter of several of the Matriarchs, which was frustrating in its own right." |

"Well I suppose I was lucky in zat regard. By ze time I became Voivode, Gavrila here was already Knezinja and so I did not have any issues wiz her," Gavril said, "And I zink zat ze issues I had, well have, wiz some of ze ozer Knezi are more ideological." "Not to mention you showed zem zat you are Voivode by forcing zem to accept gay marriage as legal," Gavrila grinned as she laughed, "Zat was pretty much a big 'fuck you, I am Voivode' to Daniel and Violeta." But when his cousin brought to subject up, Gavril sighed and shook his head. "I do not regret doing zat, exactly, but I do feel like I should have been more diplomatic about it," he said, "True, it was a big step forward for equality, but it also drove ze boieri even farzer apart." |

Jia Li nodded sympathetically. "Sometimes you have to force an issue and then figure out another way to reconcile the sides. Other times reconciliation is more important and the issue might have to be tabled. In this case, I think you did the right thing. I will never understand why this particular issue is an 'issue', but I'm sure there are several equivalents in my nation. I certainly bump heads with the Conservatives a lot." She smirked. "Which is ironic since some of the time those issues are me changing things back to the older ways." |

"Well, I find zat some Conservatives are interested in keeping zings 'traditional'. Which often simply amounts to 'ze way zings are right now'," Gavril chuckled, "Zough to be fair zat is not always bad." "If it is not broken, zen do not fix it," Andreea said with a smile, "Of course zat is not always prudent advice, but ze point stands here." Edited by Cetatsenia, Jul 28 2014, 08:45 PM.

Jia Li smiled. "Yes, but politics is certainly an animal with its own rules." She shook her head. "But back to the main point... How is it that a young voivode gains the respect of xyr ministers and such? Xe technically has no experience at all." |

"Well, I suppose it really depends. Generally ze Princesses and Princesses get ze best education possible, since it is less certain which will inherit. After all, ze Voivode can always have anozer child," Gavril said, "But zey are not always entirely inexperienced. Sometimes zey are like myself and served as government officials prior to ascending to ze zrone." "Not to mention zey get to choose whoever ze hell zey want to serve," Gavrila added with a grin. "True, zough I kept most of ze people from my fazer's reign," Gavril said, "Since zey had been doing ze job for years." |

Jia Li nodded. "That makes sense. I did that for... Some of my advisers. The ones I knew I could trust or, in the case of the Lawspeaker, I knew would do the job properly. But that still didn't change the amount of respect I got. From what I understand of our history, it's not uncommon for empresses who had regents to encounter this problem." |

"True, it can definitely be a problem sometimes. Probably less so now zan in ze past, since it is more likely for ze heir to be an adult by ze time ze Voivode passes on," Gavril said, "Zough zere is ze fact zat ze Ministers I appoint only have a job zanks to me, and ze Knezi do not exactly have a choice if I give zem a direct order." "Oh, zat is not true," Gavrila said, grinning, "Zey have a choice; do it or get zrown into prison for high treason." |

Jia Li smiled. "It's probably a lot easier in modern times since no one has a standing army except the proper government," she replied. "Come on. Let's continue. We keep having heavy conversations every time we stop." She laughed. "I know you're more than that. Museums are a serious place, but it's like a lecture hall." |
