If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. Gavril nodded his head in agreement, "Of course. Zough I believe we have already talked about ze basics of what is here." The next exhibit was, as the Cetatsens had said, about the later stages of the war. The guerrilla campaign had taken its toll on the Cetatsens' enemy, and the AEC began to actually take control of land. Thanks to the fact that Cetatsenia was just one of many fronts, the AEC was able to expand and push the enemy back. They had proper military hardware, partially from what their enemies had left behind and partially from supplies given to them by their allies. In addition, those Cetatsenian soldiers who had managed to flee the country during the occupation were returning and some foreign soldiers were traveling to Cetatsenia to aid them, bolstering the numbers of the AEC. Though the AEC eventually came out on top, it was a bloody and violent ordeal. When the group came to the exit they were joined once more by Aurel, who took his place behind Gavrila after a short greeting. The rest of the exhibits went from the period after the war and into the modern era. The re-establishment of the monarchy and the nobility as the rulers of the nation was first, and it went much as the Cetatsens had said. Ioan II had popular support and those who had collaborated with the occupation government were stripped of all titles and tried for treason, with the exception of those who used their positions of authority to work against the occupiers or for the Cetatsen people. There were also the unfortunate lynching of several former elected officials and the unofficial expulsion of those non-Cetatsens whose families had come from the invading countries. But Gavril did his best to steer clear of any actual photographs of the lynching or other graphic images. The rest of the exhibits weren't as interesting since most issues since were internal affairs. Things such as corruption scandals and abuses of power were unfortunately common occurrences, though in recent decades the Voivodes had done their best to crack down on such things. But they continued to be an issue to this day, which Gavril admitted was probably the greatest failing of his country's system of government. But now that the group was finished, they took the elevator down to the ground floor to leave. Gavril turned to his guests and smiled, "So, what did you zink?" Jia Li thought about it. "It was quite interesting," she replied. "I have been to a handful of museums, of course, and I like to compare what one country thought of world events versus another. And it's useful to know what shaped a country into what it is today." Xel nodded, though he was still thinking on the last exhibit and the corruption. It was an interesting contrast. The Demonessian legal system was often criticized for the harshness of its sentences, which were often carried out in public, but it had lesser incidences of crime. Corruption, however, seemed to remain the same. |

Gavril nodded in agreement as the elevator began its descent, "You cannot change history, but it is important to know it." "Nu poate exista nici prezentă, dacă nu există trecut," Andreea added with a small smile, "Zere can be no present if zere is no past." |

"But it is more than just knowing history that matters," Xel said. "Knowing it means little. You must know what shaped it so you can avoid the same mistakes." |

"Well, I see knowing what shaped history as an integral part of knowing history," Gavril replied, "But I do agree zat knowing history is not all zat matters. You need to learn from it as well." "You know, I feel like we have had zis conversation before," Gavrila said, idly scratching her nose, "Several times, in fact." |

Jia Li chuckled. "I believe we have. Or maybe it's deja vu," she joked. "Perhaps we should move on since this place has inspired some rather dreary conversations. I have enjoyed the other conversations we've had in the car." |

Gavril chuckled as the elevator made it to the ground floor, the elevator dinging as the doors opened. "I enjoyed zose conversations as well, and-" he began, before the words died in his throat when he saw what was waiting outside the museum. It was a mass of people, most of whom were carrying microphones or cameras so it was obvious that they were reporters. The Cetatsens had honestly wished the press wouldn't show up, but it seemed like yesterday at the library had been simply a fluke. That or they got lucky. It wasn't a particularly big deal, since they'd be able to just walk through the crowd to the waiting car, but it was irritating all the same. "Well, fuck," Gavrila said, obviously none to happy about the crowd. Gavril just sighed, "Just ignore zem Gavrila." "We do not need anozer scandal," Andreea added. Their cousin shrugged, "Eh, he was asking to get punched." |

Jia Li giggled. "You punched a reporter?" she asked. Xel, on the other hand, was visibly concerned with the crowd. Makoto surveyed them passively, though he was looking for specific threat warning signs. It was not custom for the press to crowd the empress and if she chose to appear in a crowd there were usually more than a handful of guards present. Despite the trust in Cetatsen security, it made both of them uneasy to have only the two of them present. |

"Yeah. Dumbass deserved it too," Gavrila said with a laugh, "He should have just gotten out of my face ze first time I told him." While Gavrila was only paying attention to the Empress, Gavril and Andreea had both noticed the look of concern on Xel's face. "Is somezing ze matter? Is it ze press?" Gavril asked, "If it is a big deal, I can always just order zem to leave." |

Jia Li noticed Xel's expression after Gavril's question and pulled him closer. "It's just old habit kicking in," she replied. "It'll be fine." However, she glanced at Makoto and he nodded when she caught his eye. It was hard to get around Xel's overprotectiveness sometimes. Xel nodded slowly. "Old habits die hard. Some of us were stricter with security." "Some of us don't have a stick up their ass," Makoto muttered with a smirk. Xel scowled, but Jia Li grinned and kissed her husband. |
