If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. "Pretty ironic zat focusing on your work too much can make it harder to work, huh?" Gavrila said. "Indeed it is," Gavril responded, "But you know, slacking off can make it harder too." Gavrila stuck her tongue out at her cousin as the car began to make its way up the hill to the palace proper. Then she looked over at the Demonessians, ""Do not let zem give you ze wrong idea, I am not zat much of a slacker. Most of ze time at least." |

Jia Li giggled. "I'm sure you're not. But it's easy teasing between friends and I think we're all comfortable with one another now. Even Kanzaka-was." Makoto grinned. "I'm always comfortable." "Too comfortable," Xel quipped. Her smile widened as she continued, "I don't think any one of us are as bad as we're making each other out to be." "Except Xel. He is really that serious," Makoto interjected and Jia Li squeezed her husband's arm as she laughed. |

"Yeah, I zink you need to lighten up a little bit," Gavrila said, grinning at Xel, "Hell, it is not like it will kill you." |

Xel raised an eyebrow at Gavrila because it was precisely what he thought would happen if he lightened up. Makoto kept himself sane with humor and pranks while Marcus enjoyed learning about other cultures directly from their emissaries, but he held on more tightly as if it would give him more control over a situation as it arose. In time he might descend into paranoia, but for the time being it was simply being overly cautious and security could always benefit from it. Jia Li smiled and interceded. "He does lighten up, but he doesn't like to do it in front of an audience." She turned to Makoto. "I think that includes you now." "Oh? Well, I would be offended if I hadn't known you for so many years." Makoto grinned. |

"Reminds me of Andrei," Gavrila said, still grinning, "He is exactly like that. Zough I zink even he is not as serious as Xel here." "All the more stranger when you compare him to Vlad," Gavril added, "Identical twins, but zey are definitely two very different people." |

Jia Li nodded. "Like regular siblings, they are different people. My sister and I had different reactions to our upbringing and in retrospect I probably should have adopted her method of adapting, but I'm still proud of my choices." She smiled faintly. "Sometimes I wonder if her children would have been like mine or completely different. If they would have inherited her spirituality or kindness. Or mischief." Xel reached over and clasped her hand tightly as she seemed to drift toward inner thoughts. "Kieran and Elisa are certainly different," Makoto interjected, trying to save the conversation. "He is very quiet and well-behaved, but she's... I think she might have finally realized she's not the center of the world. She's very ambitious and stubborn though." He grinned. |

Inside Gavril cursed, he probably shouldn't have gone along with this conversation considering what had happened with Jia Li and her twin. No doubt it could still be a sore subject for her. He shot a glance over to Gavrila, in case she looked like she might make any sort of insensitive comment. But the grin had slipped from her face, and she seemed lost in thought. "Zat sounds like me and Carol," she said after another moment, "Well, no. I guess it does not. Not anymore at least." |

"How do you mean?" Makoto continued. "Polar opposites?" He wondered how he could signal that focusing on Jia Li's twins would help sway the conversation away from where it was heading. Despite Xel being her husband, Makoto would have actually wanted to sit and discuss Hikari with her. After all, the two of them had visited her in her final hours and no one else knew and to his knowledge he was the only one with which she'd break damnatio memoriae. Xel was too hard, too unforgiving, to allow conversation about the sister that he felt betrayed his wife; even though they had once been close as well, she was now an "enemy" as far as he was concerned because she had posed a threat. |

"Polar opposites does not even begin to describe it, zough I suppose zat was my damn parents' fault," Gavrila said, the bitterness clear in her voice. Then she looked up and chuckled, "Damn, we were having such a nice time before. But anyway, you two seem like pretty good parents, even if Xel is a little uptight." |

Xel squeezed his wife's hand and whispered, "We'll talk later?" She nodded, though she doubted it; while he was not particularly religious and therefore didn't mind breaking damnatio memoriae for her sake, he was unforgiving when it came to her memory and she wanted to discuss her sister rather than simply dismiss her. She cleared her throat, dabbed her eye, and smiled. "Thank you," she replied. "We try. We both had parents with questionable ability." It was ironic to consider how poor a parent Ariana was to Xel and his sister when she doted on Jia Li and Hikari. "It's also a learning curve. There were so many people around me growing up and sometimes it seemed like they were suffocating me, so I didn't want the same thing to happen to the twins." "Kie could have benefited from more attention," Xel remarked, and it was true; his sister constantly stole the spotlight no matter how hard they tried to discourage her. |
