If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people.

Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river.

Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets.

While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then.

The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city.

At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down.

"I zink zat a horseback ride would be pleasant, zough we would have to drive out into ze more rural areas outside of ze city," Gavril said, "I apologize, but Albraustana-zid is a razer urban area, it is ze largest city in ze entirety of Cetatsenia after all."

Gavrila herself had been holding her breath ever since Jia Li mentioned horseback riding, though she didn't realize it until she sighed in relief at Gavril's words. Gavrila had tried to learn how to ride horses; she'd tried very hard to try and learn how to ride horses. And while she could stay on if the horse went slow enough, it was still embarrassing for others to see her try and fail numerous times to get on the horse and the fact that she almost always fell when trying to get off. If the Empress was willing to go the distance necessary, then Gavrila would go, but she wouldn't like it.

"Well, we could stop at ze Royal Albraustana-zid Library while we try and find out where to go," Andreea said, "I know Gavrila would enjoy zat."

------

"Caution is ze most important part of our job," Adrian replied, "And as for medical training, all members of ze Garzile de la Palat are certified first-responders. And Ionescu here is a certified paramedic." His last sentence was punctuated with a gesture to another of the men in the car, who gave a respectful nod to Ariana.

Jia Li smiled. "I think it would do nicely as a side trip," she said. "Isn't it always funny trying to figure out what to do? You live in the city, so you know what to do, but everything is old to you. I don't live in the city, so I don't know what is available."

---

Ariana nodded and then turned to Ionescu. "You should be aware that Her Divinity has many sensitivities to Her environment and Her health. A medical emergency is not likely, but please be on guard."

"I zink it is fun trying to find out what to do in a new city," Gavril said, smiling, "Especially in foreign cities, as zey can be so different from zose zat I am used to."

"Yup, anyway, let us get moving," Gavrila said, obviously excited, "I wanna get to ze library."

Gavril smiled again, "Do not worry, we will soon. But Jia Li, will Dna. Nedia be returning to zis car, or will she be riding over wiz my security?"

------

The young man nodded, "Of course, and I should be able to take care of anyzing zat does happen."

"So, was zere anyzing else you needed?" Lieutenant Dalca asked, "And will you be riding in zis car, or will you be returning to your Empress?"

Jia Li looked over at her husband, and then Makoto. Makoto shook his head. "I do not believe so, milord," he answered Gavril. "If she headed over to the other car, she will be a while."

She shrugged. "I guess not. Shall we?"

---

"I intended to ride along and discuss your security strategy," Ariana replied. "Because Empress Jia Li has full confidence in Cetatsen security, we only brought a portion of our normal complement, but it is my duty to know who and what is available should an incident occur. I don't expect you to reveal any classified information, of course, but I need to understand how to properly complement your security with ours."

Gavril nodded, "Well zen, I guess zat means we can go." Then he made a gesture to the driver who nodded, and then picked up a radio and spoke into it for a moment before starting the car, and beginning the drive to the library.

"Anyway, I am curious, you said zat you read a lot in your spare time; what kinds of books do you read?" Gavril asked the Empress, trying to make conversation as the cars got under way.

------

Lieutenant Dalca nodded. "Zat is understandable, and perfectly fine," then he nodded to the driver, who spoke something into the cars radio, and then turned and said something in Cetatsen to the Lieutenant. He listened for a moment before turned back to Ariana, "Well, it seems zat we will be making at least a short stop at ze Royal Albraustana-zid Library; despite ze name, it is just a regular public library. We do not follow ze Voivode closely, but instead take up positions far enough from him to be unobtrusive, but close enough that we can make it to him should trouble arise. You and ze ozer guard ze Empress brought wiz her stay nearby most of ze time, correct? Zat should provide a good complement to our staying at more of a distance."

Then the Lieutenant thought for another moment before continuing, "As for what is available should an incident occur, ze rest of ze Garzile de la Palat, aside from zose manning ze gate, can mobilize and arrive quickly, depending upon ze distance. Ze library is not far, and if somezing occurs zere it should not even be ten minutes."

Jia Li gave a small, slightly embarrassed smile. "To be honest, science fiction. It used to be the serious kind - you know, the analogous to real life situations, like racism - but then I expanded into the more popular culture definition with spaceships and telepaths. I just like to know what the future could be like." She shrugged. "Mainly, anyway. I read a few histories and philosophies and other non-fiction as well, but I prefer novels."

---

Ariana nodded. "That seems to be standard procedure," she said. "Our guards then will know how to react since your procedure is similar. Tell me, since the Voivode and the other are armed, what is their normal response?"

"Oh, well zat is razer interesting," Gavril said smiling, "I enjoy ze occasional novel as well, zough I tend to read ones which take place in a more modern setting, sometimes a few decades in ze future."

"Eh, I do not prefer fiction or non-fiction, provided it is somezing I am actually interested in," Gavrila added, "And zere is no reason to be embarrassed by ze fact zat you like science fiction, everyone is allowed to have some nerdy hobbies."

------

"Well, zeir typical response to someone who appears intent on causing harm to zem or zeir guest would be to draw zeir firearms, and attempt to talk ze offender into surrendering. Generally by zat point we would have arrived, but in case we have not zey will shoot, first to incapacitate and to kill only if it is not possible to incapacitate," the Lieutenant answered, "However, ze Voivode may react as he sees fit if he zinks ze typical response may not work, such as if it appears as zough ze offender cannot be reasoned wiz."

Jia Li chuckled. "It's not well-accepted in my culture. We're a very pragmatic people," she explained. She gave a sideways glance that encompassed both her husband and Makoto. "And a few people have made fun of me for it."

Xel shook his head. "I simply stated that giant robots are not very efficient war machines," he stated.

"At least Ned agrees with me." She stuck her tongue out.

---

Ariana nodded approvingly. "So then it is not for show," she said.

"Giant robots may not be efficient, but zey are cool as hell," Gavrila said, "So it does not really matter. It is science fiction, not everyzing needs to make sense."

Gavril just shook his head and smiled, though Andreea chimed in with a "I would have to agree wiz ze Empress's husband on zis topic. Gavril?"

At this the Voivode just shook his head, "I do not have any strong feelings one way or ze ozer."

------

"Of course not, ze Voivode listens to us and zere is no way we would let him carry around a weapon unless he was able to use it," the Lieutenant said, "Too much chance of him harming himself wiz it."

In truth the Garzile de la Palat had no authority to ban the Voivode from carrying around a weapon. But, as Dalca had said, Gavril listened to them when it came to matters of security; if he didn't know how to use his weapon and the Commander of the Guardsmen told him that him carrying it around would just pose even more danger to him, then Gavril would listen.

Jia Li laughed. "Regardless, it is something I enjoy, even if it can be a little silly sometimes," she said. "But that happens in every genre and I tend to steer away from silly when it's not entertaining."

---

"Not everyone is responsible," Ariana replied. Firearms were strictly controlled within Demoness, and licenses were almost impossible to obtain, but other weapons were allowed to be openly carried. Unfortunately in the modern age, not everyone understood how dangerous a sword could be - they only saw it for how cool it was in a movie or book - and accidents occurred. Ariana would have preferred for them to be banned altogether, but irresponsibility would not change thousands of years of tradition.
