If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. "Zat sounds lovely," Andreea said. "Yeah, definitely sounds like somezing I would like to go and see," Gavrila said. "How many Aspects does Morante have zat are titled Goddess?" Gavril said, curious about Xel's mention of Leilani; he'd thought their were only the Three Goddesses, "In our faiz none of ze Aspects are styled God or Goddess because zey are all seen as a single facet of God." |

"Only three and it's debatable if they are 'aspects'," Jia Li replied. "The Twins, Leilani and Du Isa, are traditionally styled as the guardians of the land. There are various stories of how they came to be, whether they were born or formed or just came into existence, but they appeared right after the Betrayer was defeated. Since their origins are ambiguous, it's hard to really state if they are aspects or daughters, like the third, Vultania. "She was supposedly Daemonesu-sumae's first daughter, sired by the Betrayer. The World rarely mentions her, though there are scant references to her as a mortal child, but Ruarc, our first prophet, says she was a goddess." She shrugged. "Of course, he was also her husband, so he was probably a bit biased. Regardless, she has a small following that worship her as a goddess, a supplemental guardian, while Morante rarely acknowledges her at all. "Actually, I don't know if you got a chance to see the Blasphemous Shrine when you were in Sacred Rock, but as you flew over you probably saw its willow tree. While the shrine is of course devoted to the Lady of the Willow, the old design also had plenty of references to Vultania and her exile. The Ruadhans were obsessed with her. Some still are, but that's understandable since Ruarc was also one of their founders." |

"Interesting," Gavril said, once again wishing that either Octavian was here or that Gavril knew enough about his religion to have a meaningful discussion, "Our religion has never viewed any living person as being divine in any way, even prior to us becoming Mezyan." "Cetatsens have always viewed Gods and men as separate from one anozer," Andreea added, "A Mortal cannot be Divine and ze Divine cannot be Mortal." |

Jia Li shrugged. "It's hard to say one way or another. All three are supposedly immortal, but I am not." |

"Well, one could say zat you yourself are not immortal but, um, uh," Gavril said before trailing off and thinking for a moment, "Oh yes, Daemonesu-kami I believe it was, is immortal as all of ze Empresses are her. Maybe, I am not really an expert on my own religion, let alone Morante." "Zough zat is still one Goddess we cannot believe in," Gavrila said, "And zat is rare. From what I have heard Octavian say, Aspect Mezyanism is more zan willing to agree zat ze Gods of ozer religions are simply more Aspects of God." "Most still do not pay homage to any ozer zan Cetatsenia's however," Andreea said. |

"We are not immortal. We are..." Jia Li trailed off, trying to figure out how to explain it. They were all divine, born of the Goddesses' blood and if they were to die without giving birth to an heir they would be reincarnated. But while all empresses were "divine", only the reigning one was considered the embodied goddess and Jia Li was not expected to be the same as her mother. She was not the same essence and when she died she would join her in the Palace of the Dead, where all her ancestors waited until called upon to intervene by Morante followers. She shook her head and decided to continue with the other tangent Gavrila brought up. "We acknowledge there are other deities. Daemonesu-kae even admitted She was a 'refugee' from another pantheon. In truth, we can worship other gods as long as She has precedence." |

"Well immortality and eternity is part of divinity," Gavrila said shrugging, "And faizs zat accept ozer Gods are ze best. Religious intolerance is a hell of a lot rarer when a religion accepts ozer Gods." "It is true, religious intolerance has never been an issue in Cetatsenia," Gavril said, "What about in Demoness? I can imagine faizs like most branches of Mezyanism not being looked upon favourably." |

Jia Li shook her head. "Legally, as long as one does not deny the existence of the Goddesses then there is no problem," she replied. "We are Her people, not you - no offense - so it is on us to make sure She is still worshiped. Of course, since most Mezyanism is monotheistic rather than henotheistic, it has caused problems in the past, as well as any other religion that would cause harm to Her protected people." She sighed. "So I guess you can say we're only intolerant when we've been a victim of it first. Truthfully, the Goddesses don't even care if you believe as long as you perform the rituals to show respect." "You're omitting our history with the colonies," Xel replied, frowning. "Native religions were used to our advantage or suppressed." He sighed. "Though to their credit, there were never any forced conversions. One simply cannot convert to Morante. One can follow the rituals, but membership is also a matter of blood." |

"So, Morante is an ethno-religious group?" Gavril asked curiously, he was not aware that Morante didn't accept conversion. Though he supposed it did make sense, considering how closely the religion and its Goddesses were tied with Demoness itself. |

"I suppose it is," Jia Li replied. "Membership is tied to blood. Literally," Xel explained. "Our 'creation' story starts with Kae-shiro infusing our blood with hers in order to grant us protection, so it is essentially a matter of genetics. For example, Kae-shiro won't grant you her protection if you suddenly start worshiping because you are not a part of her 'Chosen People'. However, there were efforts from some natives to adapt our religion to theirs. I'm not really sure how the reconcile the differences." There was a marked difference in how Xel spoke about religion and how Jia Li spoke about it. It was almost as if the Cetatsens could hear her capitalize the pronouns - as one should with a deity - while he did not. |
