If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. Gavril simply nodded, and then a look of realization came over his face. He turned to Ariana and Makoto, "I noticed zat you did not eat at dinner, were you planning on eating later? I zink ze servants' dinner should be almost ready if you wish to join zem." He wasn't entirely sure when they would eat, as they didn't seem to leave the Empress's side much. But despite them being servants they were still guests, and Gavril wanted to at least ask. |

OOC: Makoto Kanzaka was switched out for Marcus Corbmac at approximately sunset. Just a reminder. Though I probably should have had Ariana leave when we were done with dinner.IC: Since he was being directly addressed, Marcus bowed deeply. "Milord, thank you for the consideration, but I ate before going on duty," he replied in a deep voice. He glanced over at Ariana, his coworker, and considered the possibilities. He knew that she tended to eat her meal prior to dinner, but he had not seen in her in the kitchen earlier and considering her overprotectiveness, it wasn't beyond reason to assume that she had not eaten yet. "However, I believe you are correct that Handmaiden Nedia should join the servants in eating. I'm sure she has not eaten and it's very kind of you to offer." Ariana's eyes brushed over him and though her expression never changed, he was certain she was irritated with him. Let her be; she was over two decades older than him, despite her delusions otherwise, and needed some sort of sustenance. It wasn't like Cetatsenia was a dangerous country either, so her obsessive vigilance was unwarranted. "Of course. Thank you, milord, milady. Please excuse me," Ariana said demurely, bowing before departing. |

OOC: I know, but there's still been at least one of them next to her all day. That's what I meant, sorry for not making that clearer. IC: Gavril smiled at both Makoto and Ariana's responses. "Zink nozing of it, you may be ze Empress's servants but you are still guests in my home," he said. The Voivode was about to say something else when he was interrupted by a knock on the wall outside the entrance to the study. He glanced over to see that it was Marina once again, except this time both of her hands were full with a pair of rats. One was the rust-coloured Behemoth from earlier, while the other was slightly larger black rat. "I apologize for interrupting," Marina said, "But Behemoz and Leviazan were running around ze Great Hall, and I know zat you do not like zem being around people who are eating." "Oh, it is no problem," Gavril replied, still smiling, "Give zem here." The young woman nodded and quickly made her way to the Voivode, and handed him both of the rats one at a time. Gavril kept Leviathan, the larger black one, who simply sat down on his lap and started cleaning himself. He handed Behemoth to Gavrila, who happily took him, giving him a kiss on the head before letting him sit on her shoulder again. "Vă mulțumim Marina," Gavril said. "Cu plăcere," she responded, nodding her head respectfully to those present before leaving the room. Then Gavril smiled and laughed. "I do not believe you have met Leviazan yet," Gavril said, gesturing to the small-dog sized black rat on his lap, which was currently licking its front paws and rubbing its head with them, "He is Behemoz's brozer." "And believe it or not he was ze runt of ze litter," Gavrila added with a laugh. ------ On her way back to the Great Hall, Marina happened to come across Ariana, and figured the polite thing to do would be to introduce herself. "Alo!" she said in a rather chipper tone of voice, "I saw you wiz ze Empress during dinner, you are one of her servants, right? It is nice to meet you, I am Marina." |

Jia Li smiled. "Don't think me cruel, but it just occurred to me how some countries have dogs and cats and claim they can't get along. I wonder if it would be the same with your pets and our chitaels. I could see them playing." Xel frowned; the last thing he wanted was more animals wandering around the palace. Chitaels were habitual creatures, but someone still had to clean up after them. He couldn't imagine an additional burden of rats if Jia Li got it into her head that she wanted one. She had been assured, many years ago, that wolves could be domesticated on a visit to a foreign country and he narrowly avoided that fiasco. --- Ariana nodded her head and inclined it slightly; though the social interaction was technically servant to servant, she was still the elder of the two and did not have to bow as deeply. "I am Nedia," she replied. "Her handmaid." |

"Ehhh, I am not so sur about zat," Gavril said, he couldn't really visualize a situation with chitaels and great rats that didn't end in a fight, "Dogs and cats have more similarities zan chitaels and great rats." "Hey, stranger zings have happened," Gavrila said, "And if chitaels are as domesticated as ze Demonessians say, zey could be taught not to try and kill a great rat." ------ "Handmaid?" Marina said curiously, "What is zat exactly? Are you like Aurel?" |

Jia Li shook her head. "As long as they don't pose a threat to themselves or a human, chitaels tend to be rather docile." She paused. "Though they can be territorial when it comes down to it." She shrugged. "I was just curious." --- Being demure did not mean having to be personable, which had always been Ariana's downfall. She had been a beautiful maiden and would have made an excellent infiltrator had her martial talents also extended to her tongue. Instead, she came off rather brusque and hostile when she wasn't making a conscious effort to be sweet as she did around Jia Li. "I am a servant. I tend to the Empress' needs." |

"Zen I suppose it might be possible," Gavril said, still a bit unsure. He may have seen how docile the chitaels were, but he still wasn't convinced they wouldn't immediately see a great rat as food, "But we would have to actually bring ze two togezer to be sure." "Zat sounds like a great idea!" Gavrila said, with a giant grin on her face. "Wait, what?" Gavril and Andreea both said in unison. ------ "Oh, I see," Marina replied, a little put off by Ariana's manner, but she wanted to at least try and strike up a conversation. "So, what do you zink of Cetatsenia?" she asked, "I would love to visit Demoness some day, it looks like a beautiful place." |

Jia Li grinned. "I agree. Your rats are very cute and manageable. They seem like they would be perfect for an apartment, so I don't see why we couldn't try it as an experiment. It could be a potential export market for you, if you'd consider it." --- "It has been quite interesting, but I'm afraid I haven't actually seen much of it yet," Ariana replied. "Mostly the interior of buildings, like the library." |

"Well it depends on whezer or not Demonessians would be willing to buy zem," Gavril said, "Great rats are not commonly found outside of Cetatsenia because of ze stigma most people have about rats." "Still do not understand how people can consider somezing so cute to be vermin," Gavrila said, "Hell, I have six of ze little guys." ------ "Oh, well I suppose zat makes sense," Marina said, "Zis is your first day here after all." Then the girl snapped her fingers, "Oh! I need to go wash my hands. I will be right back, but you can keep going if you want." And with that Marina turned down another hallway, heading towards the closest sink. She had just handled a pair of giant rats after all. And she assumed Ariana would have no trouble finding the Great Hall should she decide to continue on without her, since the older woman had been there recently. Jia Li smiled. "Six of any creature might be considered a bit excessive," she teased. --- Ariana continued by herself, glad to be lighter of a companion. As an amontsu, she would have taken the opportunity to explore unescorted, but as a guest and a representative of her "daughter", it was best to behave. Still, a small part of her wished she was younger and had never accepted the contract in the palace. When she entered the Great Hall, if there was an opportunity to wash, she would have taken it, and then sat to eat quietly. |
