If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. Andreea shook her head, and Gavril soon followed suit. "No, zere is not," Andreea said. "It just zat zat is almost a decade older zan her," Gavril said, "It is about ze same age as our two eldest brozers." "And she is an adult who can choose to date whoever she wants," Andreea said. Gavril just sighed, "I know zat." ------ Gavrila laughed at the Empress's joke, grinning wide as she did so. "Well zere is only one problem wiz zat; getting pregnant is not exactly a one person job," she said with a smile, "And I cannot imagine zese zings getting any smaller. I lose half a size and my chest looks like a man's." |

Xel shrugged; age was a number as far as he was concerned. It was a little strange that Ned was older than her, as it was normal for women to be the elder partner, but that age trend was reversed in Fenwick anyway. Generally, the couples he knew were much closer in age, but his father had been a decade younger than Yukiko when they'd started their affair and Ned had been seven years older than Alexis when they got together. --- Jia Li laughed. "Well, there is always padded bras as well; they look amazing on the right woman." She paused, smiled, and glanced at Marcus. "There was one year one of my friends dressed in drag. For his 'breasts', he put pudding in balloons. I don't recommend that route, but if you're really in a tight spot and need a size you can always try it." She giggled and with her words, Marcus grinned, though he tried to hide it. It had not been him, but the other guard, Makoto, and it had been a few years ago at Halloween. It was unfortunate that he actually made quite an attractive woman because he managed to pick up a few phone numbers as well. |

Andreea shot her brother another look obviously not belieiving him, and he sighed and shook his head. "It is just a bit strange zinking about her being wiz someone who was considered an adult when she was only 10 years old," Gavril said, then he focused on his sister, "I am aware zat she is an adult and can date whoever she wishes. And if zey get togezer, I will have no problem wiz it." The issue wasn't a cultural one in any way, an age gap like that between Ned and Gavrila was totally normal among adults. It was simply Gavril himself who thought it was slightly abnormal, for the reasons he described. ------ While Jia Li only giggled and Marcus tried to hide his grin, Gavrila let loose an uproarious laugh. "Oh God, man. Holy shit, zat is funny," she said, trying to stifle her laughter, "And I do not zink I am ever going to go zat route, but now I want to try and get one of my cousins in drag. It is a pity zat zere is no way in hell any of zem would do it. Well, Vlad might, but zat is besides ze point." |

"This is all theoretical anyway; we don't even know if Jia Li will actually carry out her invite," Xel replied. "But while we are on the topic, do you have any other questions?" --- Jia Li's grin widened. "Just promise that there's a reward of some kind, like best costume. It doesn't have to be true." She shivered. "Shall we?" she asked. |

"On ze topic of Ned; no, not really," Gavril said, then to himself, "Hmmm, what else is zere to ask?" However, Andreea came to the rescue with a question. "I do have a question about you Xel, and I apologize in advance if it offends you," she said, "But what is your opinion on religion? You are ze High Priest, but I have noticed zat when you speak of your beliefs it is different zen when, say, my cousin Octavian speaks of his." ------ "At best I would have Octavian and Vlad. Gavril and Andrei would never do it, even for a prize," Gavrila said with a grin, "And shit, you two go out and get comfortable. I have to go get washed up really quick." And with that Gavrila entered the cleaning area, and the sound of a showerhead could be heard. Once Jia Li and Marcus exited the changing room, they would find that the bath was now rather warm and that they could feel that the humidity had risen slightly. |

Xel shook his head. "I'm not offended. High Guardsmen are raised in a manner that is completely different from any other Demonessian and part of our duties is to hide any weaknesses of the Imperial Family; in this case, and her mother's case, severe physical illness. Ancient Demoness thrived on the Empresses being seen as practically infallible and any issues were simply blamed on the human part of their being. I basically saw 'behind the curtain' and it's not unnatural for High Guardsmen to develop agnostic or atheist views; I happen to fall in the latter category, but I have become well-versed on Morante by necessity." He sighed. "Jia Li was once agnostic, but she found religion and I have to say that I never figured out why. Regardless, I respect her beliefs and those of Morante, especially the latter because it is the foundation of her power. So they are not 'my' beliefs, but instead those of our people." --- Marcus frowned, feeling slightly uncomfortable with the humidity increase; Demoness was mostly humidity-free, save for a few regions. Despite his discomfort, he assisted her into the bath and then took up a position by the door. Jia Li sunk into the water, taking care to keep her hair above the water level so as not to contaminate it, and sighed contentedly as she relaxed. |

Gavril just nodded and responded with, "I see." He truthfully hadn't thought anything of the way Xel had spoken about Morante, but no that Andreea had mentioned it and Xel had confirmed it he thought it was at least slightly obvious. Andreea nodded slowly. "I see, and I suppose zat does make sense," she said, "I zought it was strange; when Octavian speaks of his beliefs he speaks wiz such a fervour at you can tell zat he loves God and Its Aspects and truly believes what he is speaking of; you can practically see ze faiz in his eyes." ------ After a short while Gavrila came back out of the changing rooms, bottle of vodka in hand. She strode over to where Jia Li was relaxing and grinned. "You look like you're enjoying yourself," she said, standing right above the Empress. Then the Knezinja slid into the water next to Jia Li, careful to keep the bottle out of the water despite her having washed it, and took a drink. Gavrila sighed as she felt the warm water envelop her, and she looked over at Jia Li and smiled once more. "You got to admit, zis feels nice as all hell." |

Xel shrugged. "I never felt that way," he replied, though it was obvious that a similar fervor did overtake him if he spoke about Jia Li at length; his worship of her was obvious at least. "I respect it, after a fashion, but there was never any room for me to develop 'faith'." --- Jia Li smiled and sighed again. "Indeed. I've always found baths to be relaxing - well, not when I'm bathing with the children. They are right brats." She shook her head. "But when I'm alone, it's nice and relaxing." She turned to Gavrila. "You might have covered it, but is bathing the only thing you do? Do you shower or are private baths different from public ones?" |

"I suppose it would be difficult to do so when you see ze everyday life of a woman your countrymen's religion consider to be a Goddess," Gavril said, "In truz my brozer is an exception. Ze majority of Cetatsens believe in Aspect Mezyanism, and yet are not zat fervently devoted to it." "Zere are even some priests who consider our brozer to be a bit, um," Andreea stopped as she tried to think of the right word, "Zealous." ------ "Well, bazes are pretty much just a social zing. Zat is why we cleaned ourselves off before we got in," Gavrila responded, "If we want to get clean, we take a shower. And as for private and public bazes, zere is really not much of a difference aside from ze fact zat private bazes have less people in zem." After a moment, and another drink, Gavrila looked over at the Empress again. "You know, I still zink you having an issue wiz someone else seeing you naked is weird," she said, "I mean, zat is why you did not want Aurel here, right?" |

Xel smiled. "I am familiar with that," he admitted and then immediately frowned, remembering that he disliked Hikari on principle. "In any case, the same thing could be said about Morante because even Daemonesu-kae stated she didn't care about belief so long as the rituals are followed." He shrugged. "I suppose it doesn't really matter since the whole point of 'worship' is to bow to a deity's will and performing xyr rituals fulfills that." --- Jia Li sipped some of the wine Gavrila had provided. "That's true," she agreed. "But why do you think it's weird? Why isn't it weird to see a stranger naked?" She shrugged. "The only times I'm nude in front of anyone that isn't family is during ritual and that is completely different." |
