If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people.

Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river.

Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets.

While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then.

The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city.

At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down.

"Hah, in zis day and age a good number of people just zink all you need to do to be in ze Aspects' good graces is to be a good person," Gavril said, smiling, "Zere are not to many rituals in Aspect Mezyanism."

------

"Well most Cetatsens have visited a public baz, and you see a hell of a lot of naked strangers zere. And it is just one big baz for boz genders to share," Gavrila said, grinning, "Us Cetatsens do not see anyzing weird about being naked in front of strangers, or strangers naked in front of us."

"So you don't have a high church attendance? Or whatever the equivalent is," Xel inquired.

---

Jia Li shrugged. "It's just strange in front of the opposite gender, which I'll grant is a bit odd when whole families bathe together in their private baths. But I don't think we have as lax views on nudity as you guys appear to."

"No, not particularly," Gavril replied with a shrug, "I mean, if you travel to a church service you generally will not find it totally empty, but a good number of people do not find it necessary to go to church."

"Zough in ze west and norz church attendance is quite a bit higher," Andreea added.

------

"Calling Cetatsenian views on nudity lax is a bit of an understatement," Gavrila replied with a laugh, "I zink it stems from ze fact zat Cetatsens have never seen nudity as somezing zat is just automatically sexual. It is just a natural state of being, so zere is nozing to be particularly embarrassed about."

"Is there a reason for that?" Xel asked curiously. "Are they traditionally more pious or something?"

---

"I can see that," Jia Li ceded and took another drink. "It's funny though. Our goddess stated that we were all created equal, yet the country the way it is now makes me wonder what happened." She looked at Gavrila. "Do you ever look at your religion and wonder that?"

"Zose areas tend to be ze most conservative and traditional," Gavril said, "Which probably has somezing to do wiz it."

"Which means zey are ze places where my brozer's policies experience ze most resistance," Andreea said, "At least among ze populace."

------

In reply to Jia Li's question Gavrila just shrugged, religion wasn't something she thought about much. She supposed she believed in God and his Aspects, but she didn't think about it much.

"To be honest I do not zink about religion much," Gavrila admitted, "But I have say zat I do. Ze Judecător is supposed to be ze only one who judges people, yet I keep ze fact zat I am bisexual hidden from my parents and ze public because of what zey would zink."

Xel nodded. "We have a similar issue with the more rural areas." He paused. "Well, in some cases and with some policies. In some ways, the 'old' ways of practicing Morante were preserved, so Jia Li has experienced less resistance there in restoring it, but modern, non-religious policies are a different matter altogether. They're generally farming communities that have lived that way for..." He shook his head as he trailed off. Many of those people, despite living under the rule of the country, had rarely been affected by its policies or, if they had, they had only experienced the pains of war beneath the Clans. They cared little who was in charge and little about change.

---

Jia Li shook her head. "See, that is what is odd to us. You shouldn't have to do that." She sighed. "But people will judge regardless of what their religion says."

"Yes, zose up in ze Mountains and Highlands tend to be spread out little towns, wiz ze only cities being ze capitals," Gavril said, "It is better down in ze Sudic Highlands, since zey are less isolated, but zey are still not quite as open to new ideas as ze people in ze Basin are."

------

"Yeah, I fucking hate it," Gavrila said, "I do not even want to hide it. But it is for ze best I suppose..."

"Damn, people can be fucked up sometimes," she said, taking another drink from her bottle.

Xel nodded. "Isolation does tend to drive choice in change," he said. "However, so does the new generation. Society has become more liberal over the centuries and young people are more open. It'll get easier."

---

"What would happen to you if it was well-known?"

"I know zat," Gavril said, nodding, "But it can be a pain when ze older generation is still ze one in power."

Then he chuckled to himself, "So one could consider it to be quite ironic zat ze oldest of ze Knezi is one of ze ones who support me."

------

"Oh, it would just turn into a big fucking scandal zat I really do not want to deal wiz," Gavrila said, "Sudest and Sudvest may be more liberal zan Neclintit and Insemnat, but zere are still plenty of people who find gays and bis to be fucked up and wrong."

Xel smiled. "That is interesting, but some people are wiser than they're given credit for," he replied. "Most of the Council of Twelve is in their late forties to early fifties, but they have been liberal forces all of their lives." He shrugged. "The Adon actually is a better section of Demonessian demographics. Regardless, why does he support you?"

---

"I wouldn't push you to admit it if it'd cause issues, but I'm curious: what is the worst that could happen?"
