If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people. Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river. Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets. While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then. The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city. At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down. "I could call up Crina and tell her to tell all ze servants zey do not need to make any extra effort not to disturb you if you wish," Gavril offered, "I did not before because while I may not zink it necessary, it is still Crina's job to manage ze servants and I try not to interfere." "Zough it will still probably be much quieter zan Demoness," Andreea said, "It is late, and most of ze servants have gone home or returned to zeir quarters in ze palace." ------ Gavrila just gave Jia Li a look of disbelief. "Assassinated? Ce dracu? Killing a member of your family is one of ze worst zings you can do, even back zen," she said, then shook her head, "Anyway, zeir fazer could not really split it, since ze Knezate zey ruled was actually pretty small. It was really just a glorified Banate." |

Xel nodded. "There are a smaller contingent of servants in the palace on a night shift, so they naturally make noise as well." --- Jia Li shook her head. "People always got assassinated, no matter what culture they lived in, and some simply filed it under 'accident'," she replied. "But with so little land, I can see why he did it." |

"Well, I suppose I hope zat ze quiet is not too strange for you all," Gavril said with a laugh, "I would hate for somezing like zat to bozer you on your visit." ------ "Well, yeah people get assassinated. And I am pretty damn certain family members assassinated each ozer even here in Cetatsenia. But you made it sound like assassinating members of your family was common in Demoness," Gavrila said, "Zat is kind of fucked up." Edited by Cetatsenia, Feb 7 2014, 12:01 AM.

Xel shook his head. "Jia Li would fall asleep no matter how much noise there was. It only bothers me because I was trained that the absence of noise was a bad sign - much like animals going silent in a forest." --- Jia Li laughed. "No, I didn't mean it that way. I just meant that would be a more common solution than simply splitting the land," she replied. "But twins were not very common either and the rules of inheritance have always been pretty clear." |

"Ah, I see," Gavril said nodding, then chuckled, "Well, you do not have to worry about zat here. It is perfectly safe." "Just make sure you close the door," Andreea said with a smile, petting the rat behind her neck, "Sometimes Behemoz likes to check out new arrivals." ------ "Eh, ze rules were pretty clear in Cetatsenia before zere was a Cetatsenia too. Ze one who was born last should have inherited," Gavrila said with a shrug, "Ze zing is, it is never mentioned in any documents which was ze younger brozer. A common zeory is zat zeir fazer deliberately hid which was ze younger one so he would have a reason not to give all ze inheritance to only one son." |

Xel raised an eyebrow. Of course he would close the door; he would certainly lock them too. However, it was not that strange to have a nocturnal animal visitor, so he wouldn't have been that surprised had it occurred. There was a fortunate difference between a rat and a hundred pound animal or small children. "I see," he said. "Do you have more than the two we've seen?" --- Jia Li shrugged. "That is certainly an odd approach to the situation, but I suppose it worked out in the end." |

"Oh no, it is just ze two of zem," Gavril said, then laughed, "We are not like Gavrila; ze two of zem are enough for us." ------ "To be perfectly honest, I zink zeir fazer made a stupid fucking decision," Gavrila said, shrugging, "It only worked out because of Ioan I's war. If zey had not joined him, zen zings probably would not have worked out too well. Anton and Artur were already at each ozer's zroats metaphorically by ze time Ioan I made his offer; I am pretty sure it would not have been too long before they were physically as well." |

"It is a very large place for just the two of them to just roam free," Xel replied. "Do you ever lose them?" --- "It may have been better for one of them to be married off instead or seek his fortune elsewhere. There were other ways to solve the situation," Jia Li agreed. "Siblings of the Imperial Family have to make their way, but they're usually well-educated and, if they are in good graces, they receive a stipend." When she spoke, something about her voice indicated she wasn't thinking in general terms; she still often thought about her sister, despite the passage of time, and she wished power hadn't come between them. |

"We never really lose zem, exactly," Gavril said, "Sometimes we are not entirely certain where exactly zey are, but I do not zink zat counts as losing zem." ------ "Zat sounds about ze way it works for ze Royal family to be honest," Gavrila said, deciding not to touch the unspoken topic, "Andrea, Vlad, Andreea, Octavian; zey all made zeir own way, zough zey do receive a fair bit of cash because zey are Princes and Princesses. Actually, I once remember hearing somewhere zat ze rationalization behind having ze youngest child inherit was because ze older ones already had more of a chance to get stuff done on zeir own, while ze youngest one had not." |

"If you don't know where something is, you've lost it," Xel said matter-of-factly. --- Jia Li nodded. "True, but the youngest one would also be more likely to inherit should the eldest fail to have heirs," she replied. "Logic can be applied to both styles of inheritance. "Has any prince or princess failed to receive cash?" |
