If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people.

Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river.

Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets.

While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then.

The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city.

At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down.

"I do not zink it works zat way wiz animals," Gavril said, "Zey all move around, just because you do not know where zey are at any given time does not mean zey are lost."

"If you try and find them and cannot, zen zey are lost," Andreea said, "Somezing being 'lost' kind of loses its meaning if you do not actually have any reason to want or need to know where it is."

------

"Some kind of logic can be applied to everyzing if you hard enough," Gavrila joked, then stopped and thought about the Empress's question, "Să vedem ... I do not zink zere have ever been any. At least not recently."

Xel nodded. "I will give you that."

---

"That's good," Jia Li replied. "It hasn't happened in Demoness in recent memory, but most siblings who didn't receive a stipend were already wed to a good match. Many Clans in the past vied for the 'honor'. In more modern times, I'm sure there would be more of an inclination to marry among the people, but I think my great uncles married among the Clans and I'm uncertain as to my great great uncles."

"Speaking of losing zings," Gavril said, smiling, "Wiz zat massive palace of yours, how often do you lose zings? I mean, if you set somezing down in one room and zen forget out it, it would be hell to find it would it not?"

------

"Yeah, it used to be like zat here in Cetatsenia too. All ze nobles wanted to marry members of House Suveraneshti," Gavrila said, "Hell, some people are still like zat. But zey are old-fashioned and in ze minority zese days. Like people who marry zeir cousins."

Xel nodded. "I suppose it would. I'm not sure how often it happens. We all have apartments in which to live and many of us rarely use rooms outside those; the same can be said about our offices. I imagine servants may 'lose' an item in an empty room as they are still routinely cleaned." He shrugged. "Then again, children like to play Hide and Seek, so I suppose we 'lose' them as well, but the chitaels eventually find them if we do not."

---

"How does your nobility work?" Jia Li asked curiously. "We really only have one class - or two if you count the Great and Lesser Clans as separate levels."

Both Gavril and Andreea grinned at Xel's comment about children playing Hide and Seek, because they knew the experience firsthand. "Yes, my daughters used to love to play hide and seek around ze palace," Andreea said, "Zough it was usually just zem unless zey managed to con one of ze off-duty servants into joining zem. It could be quite frustrating to find zem if zey did not want to come out."

------

"Well, if you do not count ze Voivode and his family, you only got two here too," Gavrila said with a shrug, "You got ze Bani zat rule over a settlement and ze surrounding area, and zen you have ze Knezi who rule over a bunch of Bani. It is actually a really simple fucking system."

"Do you have a tutor for them?" Xel asked suddenly.

---

Jia Li nodded. "Which you have already explained. To be honest, I never understood the complexities of other noble systems or how land and titles could be granted or confiscated. Even the Lesser Clans have considerable weight, even if they don't necessarily use it. That's why most of them continue to live in their lifestyles even though they may not be compatible with modern life."

Andreea blinked in surprise at the rather sudden question. "Um, no. Zey just go to school," Andreea said, "Granted, it is a private school, but it is still a school."

"Generally only Princes and Princesses receive private tutors," Gavril said, "Why do you ask?"

------

"Yeah, nice and simple is definitely ze way to go. Makes everyzing easier," Gavrila said, then took a drink as she asked, "And how exactly are zeir lifestyles incompatible wiz modern life?"

"I was curious," Xel asked. "Our cousin's daughter are tutored rather than going to a secluded school and our twins are tutored only because they are currently in Fenwick. I would have made them attend normal classes in the palace, but Coire-was is their tutor as well as their 'guardian'. Jia Li and I have been discussing what to do with Adiwyn when she gets older."

---

"I primarily mean the Morikarans, who are nomadic. They're sometimes considered drifters or pests, but the truth is the land they 'squat' on has been theirs for centuries; it's the settled inhabitants who are invading and we and the Clans recognize the Morikarans' claims," Jia Li explained. "Then there are the Feiai rituals. They're technically kept secret, but I know they involve ritual scarring. You have to admit that's a little unacceptable for a significant portion of the population."

Andreea nodded, "Ah, I see. And just to expand on what my brozer said, even ze Princes and Princesses go to school. Zey are just also assigned private tutors."

"I personally would go wiz schooling, I zink interaction wiz ozer children is a good zing," Gavril said.

------

"I do not see anyzing wrong wiz people who want to scar zemselves," Gavrila said with a shrug, "As long as zey are not forcing people to do it, what is ze problem?"

Xel shrugged. "Jia Li got plenty of social interaction as a child, but that is part of the debate. She is different and didn't have quite so young a sibling. Adiwyn still may make friends regardless since there are plenty of children around the Plateau."

---

"There's a difference between ritual and desire," Jia Li argued. "But that isn't the point. It's not particularly socially acceptable."
