If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people.

Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river.

Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets.

While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then.

The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city.

At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down.

Gavril just shrugged, "I have to admit zat sometimes I forget your palace is such a large complex. Well, I suppose you can only do what you zink is right."

"True, every child is different and you two know more zan anyone else," Andreea agreed.

------

"Eh, to be honest I do not understand ze point of rituals if you do not want to do zem," Gavrila said, "And I do not zink it would be socially acceptable here eizer, but I would not fucking care."

Xel nodded. "I like collecting information before making a decision, if it's possible. Our children are having a much different childhood than Jia Li or me."

---

Jia Li frowned. "They're rituals. They have to be completed," she replied, though she meant more the many rituals involved in Morante than Feiai ones.

"Yes, it is always better to be informed when you make a decision," Gavril said, "And I assume zat extends to parenting."

"It definitely extends to parenting," Andreea said with a smile.

------

"Only if you zink zey do," Gavrila said with a shrug, "If you do not, zen zere is no point in doing zem."

Xel nodded again. "If you'll excuse me, it's getting late and I imagine you'd like to get to bed also. I have to go find Jia Li and remind her that she needs sleep as well." He rose and gave a slight bow. He was curious where the two of them had headed off to.

---

Jia Li shook her head. "Maybe some, but Daemonesu-kae declared that her rituals must be completed," she argued.

The Cetatsenian siblings both nodded. "Yes, it is getting somewhat late, and I should probably be getting to sleep as well," Andreea said.

"I will make ze call to ze Castel de Nebunie to inform zem of our visit tomorrow and zen I will get to bed as well," Gavril added, "Oh, one of your guards helped wiz ze unpacking of your things if I remember correctly, so he should be able to take you to your room. If not, just come find me here and I will show you."

------

"I said it before, and I will say it again. Only if you believe zat," Gavrila said, "If you do not, zen zere is no need for ze rituals."

"I'm more concerned about Jia Li. She tends to underestimate the time she has to sleep," Xel replied. "Where exactly did she go?"

---

Jia Li shook her head; even as an agnostic, the importance of performing rituals had been drilled into her head and had stuck. She took another sip of her wine and looked around her at the bath. She sunk down further, enjoying the hot water and let it relax her body.

"Hmmm, where is she?" Gavril reiterated, stroking his chin as he thought, "Well, I know ze would have headed down over to ze kitchen first for my cousin's vodka. After zat, I do not know; perhaps down to ze wine cellar for Jia Li's drink."

"Do you zink she would have agreed to baze wiz Gavrila?" Andreea asked, "Because zat is usually where socialization takes place."

"True, I did not zink about zat since Jia Li is not from Cetatsenia," Gavril said, "And Gavrila would not have a problem dismissing Aurel if ze Empress would be uncomfortable wiz his presence."

"I can show you ze way if you want," Andreea offered, "If you wish to check."

------

Gavrila just shrugged in response to Jia Li's not answering. It really didn't make sense to her, if you didn't believe in a Goddess that said that certain rituals were necessary, then why would you do the rituals? Perhaps it was because Cetatsenia's religion didn't have many rituals. So she took a drink of the vodka and relaxed in the bath alongside Jia Li, thinking.

Maybe the Empress had a point. After all, Gavrila was an agnostic who didn't believe or disbelieve in any sort of God, but she still celebrated most of the Cetatsenian holidays that held a religious origin. They could be considered rituals of a sort, and while the religious component wasn't always blatantly obvious it was still there. She eventually took another drink of her vodka as she thought.

Xel nodded. "If you wouldn't mind," he said.

Demonessians were comfortable with silence, not feeling the need to fill it simply to avoid it, and there were several different types. Jia Li felt the silence that was between them now was intimate, that of two friends who simply could be in each other's presence without feeling the need to entertain or host the other. After all, Gavrila felt comfortable swearing in front of her and she'd forgiven any transgressions against normal Demonessian propriety. Gavrila was honest, to say the least, and spoke her mind; this was a stark contrast to many in her circle who felt that they needed to shield her from the truth for one reason or another.

Andreea nodded her head. "Follow me," she said simply, then turned to Gavril, "Goodnight."

Gavril waved to her and smiled, "Goodnight. See you tomorrow." And with that Andreea sat Behemoth down on the floor and made her way out of the room, while Gavril set Leviathan down and made his way over to his desk. After making sure Xel was following, Andreea lead him towards the private bath. And she knew she had been right before she even saw Gavrila and the Empress, as she could feel the humidity in the air coming from the bath below.

Gavrila heard her cousin coming, and the sounds of her and Xel's footsteps brought her out of her relaxing thoughts. Gavrila turned towards the door, and grinned when she saw the pair of them. "Hey zere!" she said happily, "You come down to join us?"

Xel bid goodnight to Gavril before following Andreea. He observed the hallways as they moved, both out of habit and curiosity, and when he entered, he briefly acknowledged Marcus with a nod.

Jia Li smiled. "Hello, Shuufu," she greeted, using an abbreviated form of a term of endearment. Her tone and smile definitely changed when looking at him.

When Xel stopped, he averted his eyes from Gavrila and adopted a military stance. "Actually, I came down to collect my wife. It is rather late and we have an early morning."

She frowned. "But we're having fun."
