If one was to take a place from the nation of Demoness to Cetatsenia, one would most likely see the dichotomy that the nation was rather known for. In the southern parts of the nation one would notice the highlands, heavily forested and almost untouched by man aside from the winding roads and the occasional town. But further north, the terrain would give away to the lowlands of the Centric Basin. This land was flat, and lacked the expansive forests, though there were smaller isolated forests. But the main difference one would notice would be the level of development, it was dominated by a large amount of farmland as the lowland soil was incredibly fertile, but there was also the occasional city, bustling with people.

Albraustana-zid was one such city, and it was the primate city of Cetatsenia, the richest and most populous and most important of them all. It was built along both sides of the great Albastru River that ran through much of Cetatsenia, though most of it was on the southern bank of the river. This was because of the simple fact that Albraustana-zid had begun life as three separate forts and settlements built along the river. Albrau and Stana had been built on the Southern bank, and over time had grown together until they were finally united into Albraustana. And while Zid would eventually become part of the greater whole, for a long time it was simply considered a city separated from the capital only by the river.

Since it had grown organically over the numerous years, and had once been three separate cities, the streets and roads had a habit of being winding and could be complicated to navigate for those unfamiliar with them who had no map. Though the roads had over time been widened and revamped in order to accommodate cars, and the newest sections of the city on the outskirts actually had a gridded street plan. As it was the middle of the day, the streets were currently filled with cars and buses, and the sidewalks filled with pedestrians, while the newest addition to the city's transportation network, the subway system, ran below the streets.

While there was a number of attractions in the city, such as the museums and baths, one of the most prominent is the Palatul Regal, the Royal Palace. The site of the original settlement of Albrau and lying atop a hill, it has been torn down or otherwise destroyed and then subsequently rebuilt several times throughout history. The most recent being the ascension of Ioan I to the throne of Cetatsenia, though it has been renovated and updated since then.

The Palace itself is surrounded by a wall that rings the entirety of the hill, with only a single gate leading up to it. The wall is patrolled by a special corps of Cetatsenian soldiers, easily identified by their bright blue ceremonial uniforms and ornate, pointed helmets. After that, a road lead up to the palace proper, an expansive building with a stone exterior that shared more in common with a medieval castle than what one thinks of when they hear the word 'palace'. It was home to a fair number of servants, as well as the guardsmen, and a small number of government officials. Most of those lived out in the city, and worked in their own buildings. It was absolutely huge, and in front of it was an expansive pool of water. Overall, it was an impressive sight that could be seen from a good portion of the city.

At the moment, however, Voivode Gavril IV Suveraneshti was not at his home in the palace. Rather he was at the airport, which had been cleared of any citizens besides him, the guards arrayed with him, and those who worked there; all flights to this airport had either been delayed or rerouted to other nearby airports. Today was an important day, as this was the decided upon day of Jia Li's visit to Cetatsenia. As two nations whose relationship could be accurately described as "mutually neutral", this was a rather important meeting, and Gavril did not want to mess anything up. So he stood alongside his older sister Andreea, the Steward of Cetatsenia, in the airport, ready to head out onto the tarmac to greet the Empress as soon as her plane set down.

"I never let my children stay up past zeir bedtimes except for special occasions," Andreea replied, after taking a moment to convert the military time to regular hours, "But to each zeir own."

Jia Li shook her head. "She's not in school yet and she won't be until... Actually, until this fall. Either way, I'll get her into a regular schedule when that happens." Xel shook his head, knowing it wouldn't last; while Demonessians typically let their children do what they wanted until they were eight, Jia Li truly spoiled Adiwyn.

Andreea shrugged, "Me and my husbands started getting ze girls to bed on time before ze started school. Zat way zey would already be used to it when zey started going." She did notice Xel shaking his head, but decided not to comment on it since he hadn't said anything himself.

Andreea shrugged and smiled, "Exactly. Every child is different, and no two children require ze same exact type of parenting."

"Actually, speaking of your children reminded me of somezing I saw in Demoness," Gavril said, "In all of ze portraits I saw of ze past Empresses zey all looked remarkably similar, and I was wondering how exactly zat worked. What if ze Empress only had daughters zat resembled zeir fazer more zan zeir mozer?" He had vaguely remembered reading something about the appearance of the Empress being of religious significance in their divinity, and while his sister and Jia Li had talked about their children his mind had thought back to Jia Li's children and the fact that her eldest had looked remarkably like her mother and the former Empresses.

Jia Li shrugged. "I don't really see it being an issue," she replied. "It's a matter of genetics, I guess. My mother inherited traits from both her parents, though she did resemble her mother more than her father. I never really gave it any thought though."

Xel paused in thought. He had noticed the remarkable similarity between portraits, but he had always written it off as purposeful resemblance by the artists to maintain the line. He couldn't really even vouch for the similarity between Jia Li and her mother, as Mona had died young, but it was clear that her father Ashuril saw the resemblance. He hadn't taken time to compare photographs of Jia Li's family to her, but he had noticed the similarity between Jia Li and Elisa and had dismissed it; he assumed Adiwyn would have a resemblance as well. "There's nothing specific that states the heirs have to resemble one another," he added

Gavril nodded, "I see, I just assumed zat zere may be some sort of connection. I just remembered reading somezing about appearance and ze supposed divinity, no offense intended, of ze Demonessian Empress being related."

Xel nodded. "It is true that each heir has to display certain characteristics to be considered the true heir, but lack of these characteristics is only taken into consideration when the 'heir' is unrelated to her predecessor, such as if she is the supposed reincarnation of the previous heir."

Jia Li frowned. "It has also been brought up when comparing me to my sister, but I display more of the characteristics," she said. "It's a bit like your twin situation, only my critics were trying to determine if I had been erroneously declared the firstborn."

"Oh, I see zen," Gavril said, then in response to Jia Li's frown, "I apologize if I brought up any bad memories."

"I must say, your succession is interesting in zat someone unrelated to ze previous Empress can ascend to ze zrone," Andreea said, smiling as she attempted to change the topic to something slightly different, "So I guess unique succession is somezing our nations share, even if zey are unique in different ways."

Jia Li nodded her acceptance of Gavril's apology and allowed the topic to be changed. "I suppose so," she replied, trying to sound cheerful, though her thoughts remained on Hikari and Andreea's comment had unintentionally reminded her that the Apostates claimed to have found Hikari's reincarnation, which they maintained was the true heir. She didn't know what happened to the child, but despite forbidding Megumi Orikasa from killing her, she had strong suspicions the child no longer lived.

Xel noticed his wife's distress and tightened his grip on her hand, alternatively caressing it. It was difficult to have a private moment in a car and they wouldn't be able to discuss whatever was bothering her; even if it were just the memory of Hikari, the rules of damnatio memoriae forbid Hikari's name from being spoken publicly. Regardless, they occasionally discussed her in private to help ease Jia Li's consciousness. "Jade, are you okay?" he asked quietly in Morai.

She nodded, but he knew she was lying; he would have to press her later. She put a smile on her face as she replied to Andreea, "It can be a bit disappointing though for the siblings of the throne, but it's a boon for the heir's 'adopted' family. They quite often receive gifts from those trying to ingratiate themselves to the new heir."
