Loaded.
Welcome to Zombie Zone.

Jan took a sip from his tea as he clicked on his character and waited for the loading to finish. He only had the one character, which was all you got in the free edition, if you wanted more you had to pay for it with a monthly fee.
The loading screen finished and he was treated to a brief animation of his character getting out of bed after which “Zyw” was free to roam the world of ZZ.

Jan frowned at his avatar, he had had so much interesting stuff until his death but now Zyw was stuck almost exclusively in “standard kit”, or its winter version as the game did try to keep up with the seasons. Jan nodded to himself; he would have to remember to carry fuel for fires as only noobs let their characters freeze to death.

Good thing he had remembered to put some stuff in the bars locker, though it wasn’t much but the backpack was slightly better than the free one while the balaclava would help with the cold and reduce his visibility. The steel helmet, though far from good, would help keep his character alive and the 9mm pistol was still a better weapon than the .22 pistol.

Some players complained that the helmets and masks made it difficult to see their characters face but Jan didn’t mind as A) His character looked badass in a balaclava and B) The free version only had a small number of customisation options for avatars.

Looking at the clock Jan saw it was almost the time his “comrades” were usually online, if they showed they could go out together, safety in numbers and whatnot. Thus Zyw was directed towards the bar, with its so bad it was good music (in truth the designers were constantly adding new tunes, some of it apparently written by fans) and plenty of other characters doing their things, asking for permission he was invited to a game of Hearts (one of the things that many players enjoyed about ZZ were the mini games).

Cursing as he had received the queen of spades Jan began plotting on how to dump the unfortunate card on someone…

"if he would negotiate, dont you think id have already done it? I already spent over 300k g replacing my items thi smonth. Im not going to spend$200 worht to make the prob go away!"

She sighed. She didn't play this game to be irritated; that was what real life did.

"-What if I gave you something as collateral and paid you next month?" she asked Biscuit.

There was no immediate reply, but the avatars shifted again so it seemed they had gone to a private discussion again. After a moment Biscuit answered.

- 'Perhaps. But the "something" would have to be worth a bit.'

Selene sighed. "I still have items in my bank," she typed. A lot of materials, in fact, because she liked to experiment. The more she experimented, the longer the ingredients list became. After some thought, she probably could pay off Biscuit with her materials, but she'd bankrupt herself. Was that an option?

No... She couldn't buy materials directly from the game site and trying to buy them from the in-game store would was a pain in the ass.

"If I give you the sum in materials, will you hold them for a month and I'll give them to you in gold?

There was another moments silence before Selene got her reply.

- 'Fair enough. If you don't pay us back in the month the collateral is ours. Deal?'

Selene hesitated. Even assuming Biscuit was a man of honor and not some kind of scammer, it was a large transaction. Those materials represented several months' worth of work and unlike her gear, they were not easily replaceable. They represented actual work.

"-Do you really trust Biscuit?" she sent to Psiho and Zyw.

"Moony, I don't trust anyone except for myself and our little group," Psiho replied, "Keeps me safe and on my toes."

- 'He hasn't double crossed me yet. And the general opinion is that he can be trusted.'

Jan paused before hitting "enter" before sighing, doing so and adding the next.

- 'But if you don't we'll think of something else.'

Selene sighed and then typed, "-its just a shit ton of money."

To Biscuit, she said, "Deal. Ill be right back"

She got up from the table, but she stopped at their table before heading to the bank. "-Im dong is. Ill be right back. we should be able to leave within an hour." Though she dragged her feet at the bank - weighing which items she'd rather lose if the deal went south - she was back within fifteen minutes with the approximate value Biscuit asked for. She was grimacing the whole transaction, as if it were causing her physical pain, and hesitated before finally pressing Complete Transaction.

"Ok, its done. no w what?"

"Well alright, I suppose we just do our best not to die," Psiho said, shrugging again. If Moony wanted to blow all that money on Biscuit's help, then he wouldn't stop her. And it wasn't like Psiho was actually scared of dying; he died quite a bit and his expenses were cut down a bit by the fact that he didn't use a gun. Knives and axes didn't cost anywhere near as much as a gun did.

- 'Right than Moonchild, message us the bounty hunters nicks, give us a few moments to get our squad together and we'll clear the entrance area of the pricks. We'll be ready in....'

Biscuit paused as he conferred with the others,

- 'We'll begin the operation in five minutes. You want to see us at work or do you just want us to message you when we're done?'
